Dear Parents and Caregivers
It was a pleasure to be joined by our local Moreton Bay Regional Councillor, Cr Darren Grimwade as our school leaders were officially inducted into their respective
roles last Monday 17 February. Our inductees were joined by their parents shortly afterwards for a special morning tea in their honour. A big thank you is extended to our P&C and parent volunteers for the wonderful morning tea.
P&C AGM –Monday 9 March
The P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 9 March at 6.30pm in the school staffroom. This is a wonderful opportunity for our new families to become involved in our great school and be part of the decision making process. All are welcome to attend.
Prep Information – 2021
We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2021. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office. However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 19 August at 9.30am in our School Hall. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 19-23 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 10 November.
If you have a child born between 1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2021. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2021.
Parent Information Session Thanks
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Parent Information Sessions. They were certainly very well attended and provided the reinforcement of the importance of the link between the teacher, parent and the student. If at any time throughout the term there is anything relating to your child’s education which needs to be discussed, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with the teacher to ensure that adequate time is set aside. Teachers will also be offering formal Parent Teacher Interviews from Monday 23 March to Friday 3 April.
Before School Procedures
Students at Dayboro are encouraged to arrive after 8.15am in the morning and are required to assemble in the CSA where supervision is provided until the school bell at 8.40am. This policy ensures that all students are safe and assists if an emergency situation arises at the school. Students arriving at school after 8.50am are required to attend the school office to obtain a ‘late slip’ for presentation to the class teacher.
Our school says 'Bullying. No Way!' on the National Day of Action
On Friday 27 March, our school will be taking a stand together on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.
The National Day is an annual event for Australian schools where school communities across the nation stand as one against bullying and violence.
Dayboro State School is dedicated to creating safe and supportive school environments, free from bullying, harassment and violence.
Together, we can send clear messages to young people that bullying and violence, in or outside the classroom, are not okay at any time.
Our School is planning an “Orange Day” on Friday 27 March. We are inviting all our students and school community to wear something Orange to signify the importance of this day.
We will keep you informed about our plans and activities to celebrate the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on Friday 27 March. Please note the date in your diaries.

Dear Families and Friends
Being on time and ready to learn.
At the start of every year and throughout the year, students are learning how important it is to be on time and ready to learn. Students are reminded that being organised is the key to getting the most out of their learning so time is not wasted and tasks can be completed properly.
One way to do this is for children to make sure their desks are tidy and their equipment is ready to use for the day.
Arriving at school on time also ensures a good start to the day and gives the children time to get their belongings organised and ready.
Being on time and organised is a life-long skill which we should all try to instil in every student. It is something that they can transfer to extra-curricular activities and everyday life.
If you discuss this with your children and try to make being organised and on time a priority in your life, it can help the whole family too.
Please remember that children are expected to wait in the CSA before School between 8:15am until the bell goes at 8:40am. The children are supervised during this time. There should not be children playing on equipment or waiting outside classrooms before this time.
Parents are reminded that dropping and picking up children in the bus zone is not permitted. That area is extremely busy and congested with buses coming and going and it is an important safety issue. We do not want any of our children getting hurt. Thank you for keeping our children safe.
SWIMMING – Years 3 and 4.
Swimming has started this term for Yr. 3 and 4 students at the Dayboro pool. Classes 3P, 3M, 4B, 4/5H (Yr 4’s only) and 4R will be swimming from Week 4 until Week 8. The children have got off to a great start. Thank you parents for supporting this program and for making prompt payments and returning permission slips on time.
Thank you Mrs Ryan!
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Term 1 Invoices
Students have been invoiced for the following activities:
Letters have now been sent home to families. If you require a payment plan for any of the above, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
Electronic Visitor Register
We have installed an electronic visitor register in our office! Instead of signing in using the blue folder when visiting and volunteering at the school, you will now sign in through our iPad. Passtab, the application we are now using, is a Departmental approved application to track visitor attendance.
Parents who are signing their children out early do not need to use Passtab, you will still sign your children out through the front office by collecting a slip. The sign-in register is just for parents and visitors (including grandparents, contractors, etc.) who are spending time in the school, whether it is in the Tuckshop, the Classroom or completing facilities works in the school. Parents no longer need to fill out the red folder to sign their children out, they just need to obtain the slip from the office and provide to the classroom teacher.
When signing in for the first time, it can be a little bit time consuming to set up your profile. I would suggest you come about 5 minutes earlier if you can. Once complete, your photo will be captured in the application and a visitor slip will be printed. It is important you carry the slip on you at all times by using the visitor lanyards. At the end of your time here, you will sign out again through Passtab.
We are very excited to have this new system in our school! If you are experiencing any difficulties signing in or out, please don’t hesitate to ask one of our Admin team to assist you.
Payment: Plans & How to Pay
Payment plans are available for all families, whether you are experiencing financial difficulties or you would prefer to pay for excursions / camps in a lengthy timeframe. Payments must be made regularly, and must be completed by 27th November 2020. This is to ensure all of our excursions are reconciled and meet financial deadlines.
Paying with Cash
Dayboro State School is progressing towards becoming a cashless school, which means paying for excursions by cash is no longer our preferred method of payment.
If students are taking the money to school, they will be required to come to the office before school or at lunch times for payments. Ideally, students making payments should be paid to the office before school, between 8am and 8:40am.
At no time should a student give any money to classroom teachers for excursions, teachers will redirect students to the office to pay for invoices. Students/parents will be provided with a receipt at the time of payment.
Please note – this does not include the Tuckshop or Uniform Shop. As they are run by the P&C, the school cannot accept payments for these two areas. Please contact the P&C directly for questions regarding payment options.
New Payment Method: Qkr! by Masterpass
Dayboro State School will soon be providing another method of payment for parents when paying excursions in the school. Qkr! by Masterpass is another one of the Department of Education’s preferred method of payments, and it is very easy to use.
Click on this link https://vimeo.com/185424067 to watch the demonstrational video on Qkr!
Once QKR! is up and running, we will send information out to families on how to use.
Volunteering in Classrooms
New legislation is coming into place in 2020 surrounding volunteering and Blue Cards. Blue Card Services require parents to hold a ‘V’ Blue Card when volunteering in a class that their child is not enrolled in (i.e. your child is in a Prep class but you are volunteering in a Year 1 class). Grandparents who are volunteering require a ‘V’ Blue Card, regardless of the class volunteering in.
Currently, it is free of charge to gain a Volunteer ‘V’ Blue Card. Copies of the form can be obtained from the office, please don’t hesitate to contact the school for more information.
Facilities Hire
As Dayboro State School has a strong association with the local community, we allow community groups to hire certain areas of the school. Our facilities such as the Hall, Under Covered Area (CSA), Oval and Tennis Court are available to hire at a set cost.
All Facilities Hire arrangements need to be discussed with the Business Manager and are approved by the Principal. All fees go directly into the school, whether that be maintaining our grounds and facilities, or providing additional resources for our students.
For more information on our Facilities Hire, please contact the school office.
Voluntary Contributions
By participating in the Voluntary Financial Contribution Scheme, Dayboro SS is able to provide classroom resources, home readers and other consumables to enhance learning activities for Literary, Numeracy, Science, Art and Technology.
The costs involved in the Voluntary Financial Contributions are:
- $50 per student; or
- $100 per family of two or more enrolled students.
Proceeds raised through the Voluntary Financial Contribution Scheme will benefit all students, so we encourage parents to participate in the scheme.
The Voluntary Financial Contribution Scheme is approved by the P&C each year, and is aligned to the Department of Education policy requirements.
Payments can be made from the following methods:

What can parents do at home to help your children develop a Growth Mindset?
At Dayboro State School every classroom focusses on developing a growth mindset in all learners. In a growth mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence.
Research shows that teachers (and parents) can have a powerful impact on their children’s mindsets. The language you use and the actions you take show your children what you expect. Giving process praise, talking about the brain, accepting mistakes as learning opportunities, and understanding the role of emotions in learning are all practices you can begin today.
Do you hear your child saying ‘I don’t know how to do that yet, but I’m going to keep trying’?
This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.
More information on how you can assist your child to develop a growth mindset can be found below.

Dayboro SS supports students diagnosed with anaphylaxis or at risk of anaphylaxis and uses a range of strategies to reduce allergens in school.
We have one student in Year 4 and one student in Year 5 with NUT allergy and ask parents to refrain from sending any nut containing products in lunchboxes. This is not a ban, but a strategy in place to reduce the chance of a student at risk of anaphylaxis coming into contact with their allergen.
Our strategies include: not sharing food, handwashing, reduction of foods and empty food containers in school activities and education for students and community members.

DISTRICT SWIMMING TRIALS SUCCESS!
Wednesday 19th February proved to be a successful day for our school swimming team. All children participated well, enjoyed the day and represented our school with pride. Well done to all the Dayboro children for your efforts on the day! Of the eight children who swam on the day, four have managed to qualify for the Metropolitan North Regional Swimming Championships to be held at the Lawnton Pool tomorrow. Congratulations to Carla B (backstroke), Emily W (breaststroke), Bronte W (backstroke) and Zeke Z (breaststroke) for this achievement; we wish you all the very best for your races.
A big thank-you also must go to the parents and Chappy Cam for being there and for your help with the general supervision of our team at the pool. You all certainly helped to contribute to the success of the day.
Hat & Drink Bottles for PE
Just a reminder that students must be bringing their school hat and drink bottle to school every day for play time as well as Physical Education (PE). Not all lessons are done undercover in the CSA, and the weather has been very warm to us lately, so a drink bottle with some nice icy cold water is recommended. Making sure that both (hat and drink bottle) are clearly labelled with their name is also helpful if it happens to go missing.
2020 Pine Rivers District Trials

Results from our big three school carnivals (Cross Country, Athletics & Swimming), will be used to determine who represents our school in these three sports. If you have any further questions about the selection process or below trials, please contact me via the school office. Congratulations to Carla B., Emily W., Bronte W. and Zeke Z. for a successful swim at the recent Pine Rivers District Swimming Trials. These students will now compete for the district at the Met North Regional Trials, happening tomorrow at the Lawnton Pool. Carla and Bronte are competing in the 50m Backstroke and Emily and Zeke are competing in the 50m Breaststroke. Well done and all the best!
Cross Country Training
We are now into our third week of Cross Country Training, yet students are still allowed to come along and join in, if they haven’t already done so. These training sessions are for students in years 3-6 and happen every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:00am on the school oval. This is a great way to start your child/children’s day, and to help them get ready for our School Cross Country Carnival, happening on Tuesday 24th March. If your child/children did not receive a permission form and would like them to partake in the program, they can ask for one from their classroom teacher or myself.
In addition to our school-based training session, is Parkrun, however it is not school organised or associated. Parkrun happens every Saturday morning from 7am and is held at numerous locations around Brisbane. The closest places, to Dayboro that have Parkrun include, Petrie, Ocean View and Warner Lakes. This is a FREE weekly event, organised by volunteers in the community, where you are timed running a 5km course. Some locations also offer pacer weeks, where people will help you pace yourself to finish within a set time. I am a regular participant of Parkrun and highly recommend getting involved if you can. Please come say hi if you happen to see me at one of the above Parkrun’s…. I am happy to help with pacing and encouragement.
Another great opportunity for some training, not to be missed, is the Queensland Running series. Details for this series is in the flyer below.
Maker Space
Maker space has been consistently very busy and it has been wonderful to see students setting their own tasks and designing their own activities in addition to the suggestions we have available each week. We have been very impressed with the level of responsibility shown by students who are taking great care to clean up the materials they are using in the maker space – keep it up!
Sphero robots and Dash robots have been available during first breaks and have been a popular choice with the students. Keep an eye out for some coding challenges being set for these robots.

Borrowing Reminder
All students need a library bag when borrowing. Library bags can be as simple as reusing a plastic bag or reusable shopping bag. To help reduce the number of water damaged books being returned to the library we would also like to remind students to ensure the lids of water bottles are properly secured when they are being carried in school bags with library books.
Please remember that books can be exchanged during breaks as well as during scheduled class visits. Our goal is to help all students find a book about a subject of their choice that that suits their reading ability using the ‘just right’ strategy shown in the picture above.
We have created a suggestion box for students where they can request activities in the Library and makerspace as well as suggest book titles to add to the school’s Library collection. We look forward to receiving some amazing ideas.
Thank you,
Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
Book Club
