Successful Learners!
We are passionate at Dayboro State School to ensure that our students are successful learners! Our Explicit Improvement Agenda (EIA) specifically is focussed on Excellence in teaching and learning and Equity, ensuring all of our students have access to learning including support and extension opportunities:
When recently reviewing our key priorities in our Annual Improvement Plan which is written to achieve our EIA, to check we are on track, our staff have celebrated the following in regards to or student learning:
- Our Student Council are promoting student voice by gathering their peers ideas and discussing them as a team to help improve our school
- Our students are celebrating difference and tolerance, by talking about important events such as Go Blue for Autism, Sorry Day and reconciliation week.
- Our teachers are using student voice in their classrooms activities by promoting collaborative learning activities where students learn together
- Staff have extended their professional learning on the use of digital assistive technologies to support students and enhance intervention strategies for students who experience reading and spelling difficulties through SPELD
- We have been seeking opportunities to extend our students’ thinking by planning for inquiry learning in Science to challenge students to think about creative ways to show their learning. We’ve also offered extracurricular options such as optiminds and readers cup as ways for students to extend students’ critical thinking skills
We will continue to work hard to achieve Excellence and Equity at Dayboro. Have a look at some of the amazing learning our students and staff have done this semester:

A reminder that we are working on ensuring great attendance from our students to ensure thy have the best possible chance at success. Please see this infographic about the impact of absences or short days on learning:
Chappy Day Monday!
On Monday 22 May, we will celebrate Chappy Day! We appreciate our Chappy Rach and all that she brings to our community including her listening hear for our students and our staff, engaging clubs that excite our students, attending many excursions and incursions supporting students, helping out with learning in our classrooms, welcoming children at the gate each morning and ensuring that SUPA club is an amazing after school club.
To celebrate Chappy Day, Chappy has organised some
fun games, a handball comp and a Subway meal deal for our students and staff. All money raised will go towards our chaplaincy program which directly benefits our students!
Thank you to our P&C!!!
This Friday is P&C Day, a time to recognise our hardworking P&C Members. On Monday, at parade, our student leaders will formally thank our P&C members for all that they do for our school community.
If you see one of our P&C members on Friday, please ensure that you show your appreciation!
Road Safety Week!
A reminder that it is National Road Safety week this week. Our crossing supervisors are wearing the yellow ribbon to show their support and help educate our community.
Our teachers will discuss this important event with our students. Let’s keep our community safe by educating our children to obey the road rules and encouraging children to use our crossings when crossing the road.

Dear Families and Friends
This week we celebrate and recognise what it means to be Under 8!
The theme this year is “Play-You, Me and our Communities.
What a fabulous theme for this year’s event!! After the last few years communities have been hit hard but it is so rewarding to see Community events, in particular Dayboro events, bouncing back like Dayboro Day, Dayboro Rodeo, Dayboro show and of course our Under 8’s event. We take great pride in our links with the community and we are so fortunate to have many facets of our community involved in our Under 8’s celebration- our local kindies, our police and emergency services, the Scouts, ocal high schools and many more help out on the day.
It takes a village working together to create curious, civic-minded, caring, engaged and successful learners for life. How lucky are we in Dayboro to be able to work together and wrap our support as a community around our learners.
Under 8’s Day this week will be celebrated at Dayboro State School on Friday May 19th. See details below. Parents and friends of our younger children in P-2 are invited to come along and celebrate with us! Many thanks to our hardworking P-2 team who have organised this event!
Precision in Teaching and Learning, Deepening our Clarity
In my regular visits to classes this term, I have been delighted to talk with students who have been working so hard on their goals in English for Term 2. They have all spoken so clearly to me about their next steps and goals in each of their writing tasks. They can clearly articulate what they need to work on to improve their writing. This term, P-2 classes have been looking at Narratives and in particular exploring, what makes stories interesting- characters, events, settings, plot etc.
Some responses have been:
Prep: Retelling a favourite story
PJ Rose- We are learning how to retell a story. We are retelling Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. I know what happened and all the characters and parts of the story.
Year 1: Character Descriptions
1T Clare- We are learning how to describe the Bad Seed. It is the main character. I’m using adjectives to describe how the character is at the start.
1D Sienna-I’m learning how to use describing words to make the characters more funny. I need to think about how the character changes at the end of the story.
Year 2: Comparing the same characters in different versions of a story and expressing a preference.
Theodore 2B- I’m learning about how to compare 2 similar characters and state which one I like best. I’m comparing the original wolf from Little Red Riding Hood with a good wolf from another story. I know I’m going well because I can compare what they did in each story. Their actions tell me a lot.
Francesca 2C- I’m learning about comparing the wolf characters in Little Red Riding Hood and in Big Bad Wolf. I am going good because I can easily identify differences in their qualities for example- one is horrible, one is kind hearted. I can talk about their actions too. I need to be more careful about choosing the right describing words.
Cash 1/2A- I am learning how to add more details about characters when I am comparing qualities that are the same and different. I chose the Healthy Goldilocks as my preferred character because she was a good character.
I love to ask these 5 questions about their learning
*What are you learning?
*How are you going?
*How do you know?
*How can you improve?
*Where do you go for help?
These are also great questions for parents to ask their children about their learning and help prompt conversations about learning at school.

Thank you to all the hard-working volunteers who organised, supervised, categorised, labelled, designed and sold the Mother’s Day gifts at the Mother’s Day stall. What an amazing effort and so wonderful to see the excited looks on all the children’s faces as they attended.
Thought for the week!
Thank you from Mrs Ryan
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
We are now nearly half way through Term 2 and my goodness, hasn’t it been a busy one!
Our new P&C committee have been working very hard in the background and have well and truly hit the ground running.
Our fundraising team have done an outstanding job over the past few months. The Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day Raffle and Stall were a huge success, with a fantastic array of prizes sought and generously donated by local businesses and community members. The team are now turning their attention to Dayboro Day as well as planning for future events next term.
The executive team have also been hard at work, reviewing a number of platforms and systems that will enable us to move our Uniform Shop online and streamline our processes. Yes, that’s right folks, online ordering for uniforms!!!! Watch this space!
We are a new team and still finding our feet, so please don’t be shy if you have any feedback or suggestions, we would love to hear from you.
Mother’s Day Stall – Friday 12th May
Wow, what a huge few events we have had with fundraising from our small, but mighty Dayboro School community. We are blown away. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our Mother's Day raffle. Special thanks again to our wonderful local businesses who contributed to our wonderful raffle prizes. Their generosity and participation made it a huge success, and we are so grateful for your support.
Thank you Woodside Ceramics, Balance Pilates Club, Lacey’s Creek Photography and IGA Dayboro, we’re sure that your generous gifts were gratefully received.
Thank you again to our committee members who put together a fabulous Mother’s Day stall and our beautiful parents who came and ran the stall so that every child got to shop for their loved ones. We were thrilled to see the smiles on the faces of the children as they picked out gifts at the stall. We hope that all the wonderful mothers and mother figures got to experience this joy as your gifts were presented over the weekend.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful individuals and families who have generously donated to our fabulous fundraising events thus far. Your support has been truly remarkable.
Dayboro Day Festival – Fundraising for the school’s ICT and STEM resources
The countdown is now on for the beloved Dayboro Day Festival, the first in 3 years! For those families new to the Dayboro community, Dayboro Day is a truly remarkable experience, a community celebration like no other. Held on Sunday 28th May this year, the Main Street and public spaces are transformed into bustling hubs of activity showcasing the local community, culture and its talents while providing fun for everyone.
In true community celebration, the P&C could not miss the opportunity to be apart of the day and will be running a stall throughout the course of the day hosting a bake sale and the crowd favourite “chocolate throw” game. We understand that our school community has already given so much, so the P&C Committee has decided to cover the costs of the chocolates for this game. However, we would like to extend an invitation to all the keen bakers in our community to contribute their delicious baked goods to our stall. We welcome all types of treats, and your contributions will be greatly appreciated. Please note that this contribution is not compulsory but an opportunity for those who wish to share their baking talents. To simplify this as much as possible, we also have packaging and labels available for collection from the office Monday 22nd May for the ease of housing your beautiful goods. We would kindly ask that any donations include a full list of ingredients clearly labelled on each item and that items be dropped to the school office from 8am Friday 26th May.
Additionally, we would be immensely grateful for the assistance of volunteers to help man the stall during the Dayboro Day Festival. If you have some time to spare and would like to lend a hand, we would be delighted to have you on board. Your presence will not only contribute to the success of our stall but also provide an opportunity to connect with fellow parents and members of our school community.
Once again, we extend our deepest appreciation to the entire school community for your unwavering support. We look forward to seeing you at the Dayboro Day Festival!

Remember that May is National Family Reading Month. There are many opportunities for children and their families to get into reading throughout May, including the start of the Premier’s Reading Challenge, our school Book Fair and National Simultaneous Storytime. It’s always amazing to see how enthusiastic our students are when reading new and interesting books.
Event Reminders:
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The 2023 Premiers Reading Challenge reading period began on the 8th of May. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 2 need to read or experience 20 books, students in Year 3 and Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books (this number of books acknowledges that older students are more likely to select longer and more complex books).
National Simultaneous Storytime
Students in all year levels are welcome to join in with the 23rd annual National Simultaneous Storytime event on the 24th of May during first break from 11.00 a.m. After listening to this year’s book, “The Speedy Sloth”, students are welcome to stay for the remainder of first break and join in with our celebration activities.
Have a great week!

You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Hello everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying the rain (I’ve heard a few people say they’re keen for their dam to fill up a bit!). There’s lots of things to catch you up on this fortnight so let’s get to it:
Chappy Day - 22nd May – Chappy Day is next Monday! As you hopefully know by now, your children can order subway for lunch to celebrate. The cut off to order is this Thursday morning at 9am. So make sure you order by Wednesday (today!) to avoid missing out. There will be a handball tournament at first break which children have signed up to compete in, with great prizes from Rebel sport for the first 3 places. At both first and second break, there will also be “9 square in the air” on the lower oval and “Gaga Ball” in the school hall to choose from.
Rock and Water – Kindness is cool! This week we are talking about kindness. We want the children to start to think about others and the effect their words and actions can have. We want the children to also think about the way they talk to themselves – their thought life. Are they kind to themselves? What is their inner voice like? The goal is for them to build on their ability to empathise with others.
Dayboro Local Chaplaincy Committee – if you are interested in volunteering to help out with any chaplaincy events at school, please send me an e-mail. You may also be interested in attending committee meetings or even joining the team. We meet once a term to organise and plan what I will be focusing on each term. This is a great way for parents to have input into what they’d like to be contributed to the school through this program.
SUPA Club – We have our next SUPA club on Friday 26th May. Please note that permission slips need to be returned before students attend. You can get one of these from the office or from myself. See the flyer below for further details on what we are learning.
Dayboro Day – this year the Dayboro chaplaincy committee is holding a raffle to be drawn towards the end of Dayboro Day. First prize is a brand new 20 inch Lightforce brand Light Bar. 2nd and 3rd prize are to be announced. These light bars are good quality, Australian made lights that make driving on dark country roads at night much safer! You can use the QR codes on the flyer below to purchase either 1 ticket for $1 or 10 tickets for $8. You’ve got to be in it to win it so make sure you get yours. Entries are open now!
