Welcome Back
Welcome back to Term 3! It has been wonderful to see how eager the students were to be back with their friends and engaging in the learning! Our wonderful staff have planned the learning and been preparing for the many special events, which will further engage our students, this term!

Yesterday, on assembly, I spoke with the students about how their attendance is linked with success at school! This semester we will focus on encouraging our students to attend EVERY day and we will need your help! So, unless students are unwell, or attending school-based events, we want them at school. Please consider scheduling appointments or out of school events around our school times. I will update you each newsletter to let you know how we are travelling with our goal of students attending EVERY DAY.
We have started by celebrating NAIDOC week with our students our term, continuing their understandings of our First Nations people achievements, cultures and history.
Our Indigenous Ambassadors are also facilitating some great lunchtime activities. We will continue to share these highlights across the week.

School Opinion Surveys
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted 15 July to 30 July 2021. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5 and 6) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve. The Department of Education will commence sending email invitations to participants in the second week of the school holidays. Keep an eye out for yours!

Dear Families and Friends
Welcome back everyone to Term 3!
Big events this term include Dance Fever lessons. These lessons are part of our school curriculum and will be happening every Thursday for every class. Our first lessons start this Thursday, so payments need to be finalised before then. Please make this a priority this week.
Parents will also have the opportunity this term to discuss their child’s learning progress in parent teacher interviews that are scheduled for Weeks 8, 9 and 10 this term. There will be more detailed information provided later in the term.
Also remember to name personal belongings like jumpers, hats and drink bottles. We had quite a collection of items in the Lost Property box at the end of last term that we could not return to their owners as they were unnamed. Thank you for your support!
Author Visit : Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor
On Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 July, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Dayboro SS to run workshops with our P-6 students. Many of our families will remember Cameron’s very popular visit from last year. Cameron is visiting again this year to extend our students further through a variety of writing workshops. Prep students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading and creative activity with Cameron. Year 1-2 students will participate in a writing workshop focusing on idea formation and inspirations for narratives. Year 3-4 students will engage in a writing workshop exploring exciting and descriptive language. Year 5-6 students will be exploring techniques to create blockbuster action stories – think gripping suspense scenes, epic action encounters and hold-on-to-your-seat cliff-hangers. Students and teachers are looking forward to two great days! We would like to thank our Curriculum Team for organising this event at NO cost to our families. We value the teaching and learning of writing in all its forms at our school and are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to engage all our writers.
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Dayboro SS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following day, to the Office.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising the Senior Sports Carnival in the last week of last term. What a display of outstanding talent and participation from all students!
NCCD
Please be aware that the NCCD census date is August 6th (The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability).
The NCCD collects data from our school about students with disability who are receiving adjustments across Australia in a consistent, reliable and systematic way. It enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
This week we say goodbye to our Business Manager Kylie McIntosh. We wish her all the best and lots of luck for her exciting new job. Kylie has worked so hard to keep us all on track and we appreciate all she has done for us while Clare Gault is on Maternity Leave.
GOOD LUCK KYLIE
At the same time please join with us as we Welcome Kylie Mitrovski as our new Business Manager. Kylie will be with us for the remainder of Term 3.
Thanks for joining us Kylie, we are all looking forward to working with you.
Congratulations Ivy!
Ivy participated in the State Interschool showjumping at Maryborough in the holidays and won overall 60cm Showjumping State Champion and Overall Reserve Champion in the 50cm. She’s now on the Qld State Equestrian Team .
What an achievement!
P&C MEETING UPDATE
In last night’s general meeting, the P&C Committee discussed several school and P&C operational matters. We;
- Voted to endorse the Strategic Plan, Operational Plan 2021 and the Investment and Fundraising Summary 2021
- Discussed the Booklist/SRS meeting on the 21 July where Ms Douglas had outlined the proposed plan to set up a Student Resource Scheme for the 2023 booklists.
- Planned for upcoming events including Prep Open Day (18 August), Father’s Day Stall (1 September), Family Dance Fever Night (9 September) and Colour Run (8 October).
- Confirmed that we had summitted an application to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund seeking funds for an oval upgrade.
- Discussed the promising outlook for the tuckshop with new parents committing to the volunteer roster but also made plans for future potential closures.
TUCKSHOP

The tuckshop is at risk of closing for the day with only one volunteer rostered for those two days.
If you can help out, on these dates or any dates in the future, contact Mrs Taylor on 3425 6132 (Wednesdays or Fridays) or email tuckshop@dayboropandc.org.au

Curriculum News
Welcome back to term 3. I love term 3 in classrooms. The students are settled so nicely, they know the routines and processes of their classrooms thoroughly and we see a lot of growth in student learning, in this term.
Setting Homework Routines
The beginning of each term is a fantastic time to re-establish some routines for homework and home revision. Having a clear homework expectation and a set place and time to complete homework is the most effective way for children to develop long lasting habits. I encourage you to sit with your child/children and work out the best time and setting for them to complete their homework and also what you expect they get done in that time.
Perhaps in the morning when eating breakfast at the bench might be the best time.
Maybe as soon as your child comes home from school, they complete their homework at the table before they play.
It is also important that students in year 6 start to think about their study habits and what ‘revision’ may look like at home so they can learn to ‘go over’ the things they have learnt that day in order to prepare for high school. I encourage year 6 students to spend approximately 5 minutes per subject, revising what they learnt that day, taking notes in their own words and reading over these. So, in a day, students may be taught English, Maths, Science and HASS which would be twenty minutes of revision for that day.
Student Support – Tier 2 and Tier 3
In previous years, including semester one of this year, class teachers have identified students they feel need extra support in their learning. These students are identified as either needing tier 2 support (instruction given in smaller groups focussing on regular class work that is broken down into more hands on and targeted tasks) or tier 3 support (more intensive instruction in very small or individual groups focussing on more heavily modified learning). To let you know about this support, teachers would send a note home for you to sign, acknowledging you understand the support your child will be receiving. This semester, no notes will be going home for signing. Instead, parents will be sent an e-mail, letting you know of this support. Please reply to this e-mail so we know you are aware of the support your child will be receiving.
Any questions, please feel free to e-mail me: dmath9@eq.edu.au
Have a great day.

Français Nouvelles (French News)
French Cultural Day – Celebrating all things French
This year’s French Day will be held on Friday, July 30.
All students are encouraged to come to school dressed in French theme. This could be something iconically, or stereotypically French. Examples include dressing as a ballerina, a French soccer player, a cyclist, a chef, a baker, a model, an artist, a food item, a scientist, Marie Antoinette, the Eiffel Tower the President of France or a mime artist. The list is endless. Or they may come in the French colours: dark blue, white and red.

If Students do not dress in theme, they wear their school uniform. This is not a free dress day. There is no cost for dressing up. I am encouraging students to be creative, and discouraging them from spending money on their costumes.
Students will also be able to order some sumptuous French food from the tuckshop. There will be separate information about this.
I am looking forward to seeing a spectacle of French culture again this year.

Readers Cup Team
Our Readers Cup team participated in their regional competition in the last week of Term 2. The students who participated in Readers Cup needed to read 5 books in preparation for the event and the reading period for the competition started just before the Easter Holidays. Well done to all of our team members who worked so hard to prepare for the competition!
Over 35 state schools and private schools participated in our regional event. There were five rounds of questioning with some tense moments as team members worked together to recall their knowledge of the books in order to answer some very tricky questions. We would like to congratulate Wilston State School who won the contest in our region, and we wish them all the best as they work towards preparing for the state level competition.
Library Award Winners
Congratulations to all of our Library Award recipients. We love seeing how excited some of you get when you finally get your hands on a much-anticipated book!

Book Week
Our annual Book Week celebrations are scheduled for 21st-27th of August. Students have already been working hard to help us prepare art works to display in the Library to promote this year’s theme, “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”.
We have planned some exciting activities to help us celebrate Book Week. Our Character Costume Parade will be held on 25th of August (week 7) from 9.00 on the oval. We cannot wait to see all of the awesome costumes!

During Book Week each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia award prizes to Australian authors in 6 different categories. This year’s shortlisted books for the Picture Book of the Year category are shown below. Classes have been enjoying all of the stories, but “Not Cute” (a story about a cheeky quokka) and “Your Birthday was the Best” (a story about a gate-crashing birthday party guest) have been clear favourites.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2021 is still running. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books. Reading record sheets are available from class teachers and from the Library.
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
Welcome back to all our families and our new families joining us. We've had an exciting vacation care with excursions to the cinemas and laserzone. Well done to our children for their positive behaviour whilst on these excursions! We were fortunate to be able to have our air show incursion go ahead in week two, comprising of rocket launches, learning how drones operate and flying planes around. During the holidays, we also participated in science experiments, making slime and playing with magic sand to name a few.
A reminder that if your child/ren participate in extra-curricular activities either before or after school, a new permission form will need to be signed to coincide with the new school term.
Please ensure that parents are wearing a mask at drop off/pick up this week in line with the mask mandate. Parents can enter the yard but are restricted from inside the premises at this stage. One of our educators will sign your child/ren in and out during this time.
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Please see one of our educators for support if you are experiencing issues making or managing your bookings. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Vacancies are available for both morning and afternoon sessions on selected days, and we welcome all children and families to the service. To enrol your child, please visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au, selecting Dayboro as your service and following the prompts to access the iParent Portal. If you have any issues, please contact Jenny at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts on 1300 612 462.
CANCELLATION
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 constraints on numbers permitted in the Hall, the Lions Club has had to cancel this weeks movie. We are so disappointed but it is important that we follow the guidlines given to us. We look forward to bringing the next family movie night to you to enjoy as a community.
Moreton Bay Regional Council School Parking Patrol Program
Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit undertakes a School Parking Patrol Program where officers complete scheduled school patrols, both in the morning and afternoon, to ensure that vehicles are parked in a safe and lawful manner. The primary aim of the program is to ensure that students and family members/caregivers are able to safely move around the school area as part of dropping off or picking up students from the school.
The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2011 and Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1999 control parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, marked yellow lines, shared paths, dividing strips and nature strips, along with vehicles parking across residents driveways and within ‘No Stopping’, ‘No Parking’, and ‘Bus Zones’ and Pick-up / Drop -off zones. Council is legally required to enforce these areas and the School Parking Patrol Program forms part of this process. Drivers are reminded that footpaths and nature strips are in place to promote pedestrian movement in a safe manner along roadsides and that drivers and residents must not stop on a bicycle path, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip. Please also note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels up and two wheels down is not considered as a lawful parking practice.
Local Laws officers conduct enforcement through the issuance of Penalty Infringement Notices as part of each School Parking Patrol. Please be aware that Council officers may take photographic evidence of vehicles stopping or parking illegally with Penalty Infringement Notices to be issued via mail at a later date to the offending vehicle’s owner.
Visit www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/parking for further guidance on parking restrictions.
For any further information, members of the School community are welcome to contact Moreton Bay Regional Council on 3205 0555.
