Deputy's News

Dear Families and Friends

Welcome back everyone to Term 3!

Big events this term include Dance Fever lessons. These lessons are part of our school curriculum and will be happening every Thursday for every class. Our first lessons start this Thursday, so payments need to be finalised before then. Please make this a priority this week.

Parents will also have the opportunity this term to discuss their child’s learning progress in parent teacher interviews that are scheduled for Weeks 8, 9 and 10 this term. There will be more detailed information provided later in the term.

Also remember to name personal belongings like jumpers, hats and drink bottles. We had quite a collection of items in the Lost Property box at the end of last term that we could not return to their owners as they were unnamed. Thank you for your support!

Author Visit : Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor

On Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 July, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Dayboro SS to run workshops with our P-6 students. Many of our families will remember Cameron’s very popular visit from last year. Cameron is visiting again this year to extend our students further through a variety of writing workshops. Prep students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading and creative activity with Cameron. Year 1-2 students will participate in a writing workshop focusing on idea formation and inspirations for narratives. Year 3-4 students will engage in a writing workshop exploring exciting and descriptive language. Year 5-6 students will be exploring techniques to create blockbuster action stories – think gripping suspense scenes, epic action encounters and hold-on-to-your-seat cliff-hangers. Students and teachers are looking forward to two great days! We would like to thank our Curriculum Team for organising this event at NO cost to our families. We value the teaching and learning of writing in all its forms at our school and are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to engage all our writers.

In conjunction with the Author Visit, Dayboro SS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following day, to the Office.

Thank you to everyone involved in organising the Senior Sports Carnival in the last week of last term. What a display of outstanding talent and participation from all students!

NCCD

Please be aware that the NCCD census date is August 6th (The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability).

The NCCD collects data from our school about students with disability who are receiving adjustments across Australia in a consistent, reliable and systematic way. It enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.
