Readers Cup Team
Our Readers Cup team participated in their regional competition in the last week of Term 2. The students who participated in Readers Cup needed to read 5 books in preparation for the event and the reading period for the competition started just before the Easter Holidays. Well done to all of our team members who worked so hard to prepare for the competition!
Over 35 state schools and private schools participated in our regional event. There were five rounds of questioning with some tense moments as team members worked together to recall their knowledge of the books in order to answer some very tricky questions. We would like to congratulate Wilston State School who won the contest in our region, and we wish them all the best as they work towards preparing for the state level competition.

Book Week
Our annual Book Week celebrations are scheduled for 21st-27th of August. Students have already been working hard to help us prepare art works to display in the Library to promote this year’s theme, “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”.
We have planned some exciting activities to help us celebrate Book Week. Our Character Costume Parade will be held on 25th of August (week 7) from 9.00 on the oval. We cannot wait to see all of the awesome costumes!

During Book Week each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia award prizes to Australian authors in 6 different categories. This year’s shortlisted books for the Picture Book of the Year category are shown below. Classes have been enjoying all of the stories, but “Not Cute” (a story about a cheeky quokka) and “Your Birthday was the Best” (a story about a gate-crashing birthday party guest) have been clear favourites.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2021 is still running. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books. Reading record sheets are available from class teachers and from the Library.
Have a great week!
