Reporting
Our dedicated teachers have been working with our students to complete their unit works for this term and help our students work through summative assessment tasks to assess what they know and can apply. Our teachers are expert in providing feedback and adjustments where necessary so that our students have the best chance of demonstrating what they can represent about their learning.
To ensure a consistency in judgements, our teachers over the last few weeks, have been engaging in moderation sessions with fellow staff members. At the end of this term, they will review each student’s folio of work to make on-balanced judgements for reporting to parents.
The first semester report cards will be distributed to parents, on Thursday 22 June online via QParents. Emailed copies of our report cards will be sent on Friday 23 June. It is important to recognise that the Australian Curriculum achievement standards clearly outline the expectations of a ‘C’, ‘Sound’ or ‘Working With’ standard. If your child attains a ‘C' for their achievement, this means that they are on target for their age and year level.
Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like to discuss any components of the report card. We will offer parent teacher conferences again in weeks 8 and 9 of Term 3. We look forward to continuing the partnership with parents to help your child be successful at school.

Senior Athletics Carnival
We are super excited about our Senior Athletics Carnival this Friday (Mrs Marks has explained the program below). The Year 3-6 students have been learning about athletics this term and so are well prepared for the carnival. We welcome parents to come along to cheer on our students. If parents are able to volunteer, we would welcome the assistance, just let Mrs Marks or one of the event staff know on the day.
There are a couple of events which are tricky to fit in to the 1-day schedule. We ran the 800m races yesterday afternoon and were certainly impressed with the participation and cheering! Next Tuesday 18 June, we will run or 1500m races during first break just for the students who want to compete in this event for Year 4-6 students.
Our P&C have generously offered a zooper dooper to every DSS students to thank our community for their chocolate donations for Dayboro Day. Our Year 3-6 students will receive this on the oval on Friday. Our Prep-Year 2 students will receive their zooper dooper at second break on Friday. Don’t forget to order you and your child’s BBQ lunch from the Tucker Box on Friday. Senior students’ lunches will be delivered to the oval.
Prep-Year 2 students will participate in their Junior Athletics Carnival next term, Friday 19 July.
150 Years Celebration!
We are certainly getting close to our 150 Years Celebration now! On 26 July, we are excited to be celebrating 150 Years with our students. We have a full day planned with old school activities together with an olden style classroom to visit. Should be a super celebration for our current DSS students.
Saturday 27 July will be our community event. Please find attached an invitation, and an order of events for this day. I explained to the students on assembly this week that the tickets for the Bush Dance are now availble for purchase through School 24. There is a QR code on the Order of Events or you can use the link: https://www.school24.net.au/canteenorder/guest/event?ezp=2333
Our wonderful P&C are also currently selling 150years merchandise via School 24. They will be at the Dayboro Show with more merch available. Thanks P&C!
A huge thanks to our 150 years organising committee for planning an amazing celebration for our school and wider community.

Next term is also sure to be a super busy term, full of amazing learning and school events. Please find the first version of our Term 3 Parent Calendar attached. We love to share our learning journey with you!
Have a great week!

Dear Families and Friends
As we begin to edge towards the end of Semester One, our students have been very busy finishing tasks and assessments. Teachers are also busily in the midst of marking students’ work and writing report cards.
Reports will be sent out to parents on Thursday in Week 10 of this term via QParents. So, it is more important than ever that parents sign up to QParents. These reports will provide parents with information about your child's academic ratings in each learning area. There are also comments on Academic strengths and weaknesses as well as comments about behaviour and work ethics now being given at the end of the report card.
It is also at this time, that I am reminded of our School Motto, “Cultivating Knowledge” as well as our Dayboro School vision “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
We strongly believe here at Dayboro school that our students should be engaged in the “richness” of learning and we strive to provide a diverse and challenging range of learning experiences that extend and encourage student creativity. We aim to provide a wide range of ways in which our students can present their knowledge and understandings and encourage all our students to have- a- go, take risks and do their best! Our ethos has always been around educating your child for the world of the future and to give them the skills and knowledge they will need to be happy, curious and engaged learners who will thrive in a variety of settings.
CELEBRATIONS
Every week teachers select students from their classes to receive the awards for each of our values.
To keep things simple, we focus on six values that we teach our students and these values sit under our expectations of Being Safe, Being Respectful and Being a learner at all times.
Simply called the 6B’s they are:
Be RESPECTFUL Of yourself, others and property
Be RESPONSIBLE Be safe and aware
Be POSITIVE Be kind, helpful and cheerful
Be PROUD Take pride in yourself, your work and your school
Be TOLERANT Be understanding of others’ ideas beliefs and feelings
Be KIND Treat others with compassion
We also have a weekly Principal’s Award. Once a term, in Week 10, we hold a Principal’s Morning Tea where all the Principal award recipients are invited. A Sheriff’s award is also presented once a term to students who demonstrate outstanding citizenship and are drawn from all the students who receive a Golden Gotcha throughout the term. This is also drawn in Week 10 of each term.
Congratulations to all our students who have received a Values award, Gotcha, Golden Gotcha or Principal’s award in Term 2.
Thank you to the Pine Rivers High School Performing Arts group for visiting our school on Friday. The P-3 students and staff loved the performances from your Band, Strings Ensemble, dancers and vocalists.

Also a big thank you to our local Kindy groups who visited our Prep rooms last Monday for their first “Getting to Know Our School” session. They met our Prep teacher Mrs Cappell and got to be little artists making Butterfly prints.

This Friday we will meet at Helping Hands at 9am and then head up to the oval to watch the Yr3-6 Senior Athletics Carnival for a little while. Bring a hat and drink bottle. On the last Friday of the term 21st June it is our French Day. So if our Dayboro little learners want to dress up they are most welcome to. We also might go for a walk to the Tuckerbox and have a look at the French food they are preparing.

PREP VISION SCREENING
Vision Screening for Preps is on Monday 17th June. While the online system for booking has closed you can still collect paper forms form the office to be part of this free service.
FRENCH DAY/INCURSION
Yr 4-6 students- a reminder that the French performance is coming up on Thursday 20th June and payments for this are now due. On Friday 21st June the whole school are invited to dress up for French Day. There will be also a special French Tucker Box menu for this day.
A REMINDER ABOUT MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones and smart watches are considered a valuable item and are therefore not to be brought to school by students. The risk of damage, inappropriate use or loss is extremely high.
If, due to special circumstances, parents require a mobile phone to be carried by a child, the phone must be given to the child’s class teacher or handed into the office for the duration of the day.
We strongly encourage students to leave all toys at home. Treasured items may go missing, be lost, or sadly, taken. If something of value is brought to school (for Show and Tell for example) the student should hand it to the teacher for safe keeping. Any items brought to school should be clearly named for safe return to the owner if lost or misplaced.
LOST PROPERTY
Please ensure all clothing and property are clearly labelled with students' names. At this time of year, especially, we are finding many jumpers being handed into the office as children warm up throughout the day and take their jumpers off but leave them behind somewhere. If they are named we can return them promptly to their owners (which we do regularly). Having names on items means very little goes missing and items can be returned.
CSA Supervision Times
A reminder that we do not have staff on before school supervision until 8:15am each morning. Children should not be arriving at school before this time, unless they have before school commitments such as Choir or Band. We have seen an increase in the number of children arriving at school before this time, some even before 8am. We have an excellent before/after school service if needed. Helping Hands provide early morning supervision to students and walks them to the CSA every morning around 8:30am.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
Thank you Mrs Ryan!
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Thank you to everyone who attended our P&C meeting on Monday night, either in person or via Teams. There were some great discussions around upcoming activities, the BYOD program, grant opportunites and the purchase of a new fridge for the Tuckerbox.
If you would like to be involved in the P&C, please reach out to Johanna at secretary@dayboropandc.org.au. We would love to welcome you to our next meeting on Monday 15th July 2024.

Jill's Bit.....
Lost Property! Oh boy - here we are in cooler times so not only are our Hats disappearing every break our Jumpers get peeled off and left behind too!
Parents: Please please name everything - if it can come off their bodies... it can be lost!
Items lost or misplaced are usually brought to me in the office. If they are named (with the name of the current user!) I can get them straight up to the classes to their owner. Also, can you please regularly check the hats/jumpers that your children have brought home to ensure that they do belong to them. Sometimes in the rush it is easy to pick up the wrong jumper and not realise you have someone elses.
I have also got a collection of small fluffy things, a hello kitty, a couple of pairs of adult (I think) glasses that were left in our staff room... come and visit if you are missing something!
The 150th Celebrations are getting closer. We can't wait to celebrate 150 years of Dayboro State School with you and our wonderful wider community. On Saturday 27 July there will be lots of displays, games, a roll call through the decades and lots more. In the afternoon we have Food Trucks arriving with treats to eat from 4pm and then from 6-8pm is our Bush Dance with the Amazing Smashing Bumpkins! There will be a bar run by our wonderful P&C in the CSA (only people over the age of 18 will be admitted to this area and alcoholic drinks cannot be removed from this area).
Buy your tickets for the bush dance through the link below or the QR code on the posters and flyers. You will see them on Schools 24 but that link will not work, you must use this guest link.
Do not wait too long to buy your tickets we can only have a limited number of people in the hall.
Our French celebrations are next week. The incursion for years 4-6 is on Thursday, June 20. If you haven’t yet paid could you please do so as payments are due by next Monday.
The special French tuckshop and dress-up day for the whole school are both on Friday, June 21. Please order a selection of French food via the usual ordering system. We thank the tuckshop staff for their special effort.

Overdue Books Reminder
All students in Prep – Year 3 are reminded that all of their Library books are now due to be returned before the holiday break. Students in Year 4 – Year 6 are able to borrow books over the holiday break, but all overdue books need to be returned before the end of term. Thank you to the family members who help to look for these overdue books.
We have a substantial number of books that were borrowed by students in Term 1 that still need to be returned. Due to the length of time that these books have been on loan they are now considered missing. Students have been given multiple reminders about these books, we would appreciate the speedy return of these books.
Remember that students in years 4, 5, and 6 are also able to access eBooks and audio books using Sora. Students will need their MIS username to access this resource and need to ensure they enter their school as Education Queensland. Other online libraries, such as Moreton Bay Region Library accounts, can be linked through the app to provide access to a larger number of reading resources, including magazines.
Readers Cup Congratulations
Well done to all of our Readers Cup participants who represented our school so proudly at our recent competition day. The students had an opportunity to meet with two authors on the day as well as meet students from other schools who also love reading!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge reading period ends on August 23rd. Remember to keep on reading over the holiday break. How many books will you read???
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson
800m
A huge number of students ran in our 800m carnival this week earning points for their house and potentially age champion points. These results will be added to the results from our main carnival this Friday.

The Yr 3-6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 14th June with a backup date of Tuesday 18th June.
Time: 8:50am. Please ensure your child is at school promptly. Event will run all day.
What to Bring:
- School hat. Hat must be worn when not competing
- House polo shirt or sports uniform
- Suitable footwear
- Full water bottle

- Sunscreen
Parent assistance will be required during each of the field rotations. Simply move around with your child and step forward if the supervising staff at the rotation ask for help.
Tuckshop will be running a menu on the day of the athletics carnival. Pre-ordering is essential. More information will follow.
10-12yr 1500m
The 1500m event is only open to 10-12 yr students, with the sole intention of selecting 1500m runners for the district carnival. As such, this event will be held after the athletics carnival, on Tuesday 18th June, at 11.00am. Students in the 1500m will not earn ribbons or gain points for the house championship trophy and individual age champion medallions. Students MUST nominate for this event by writing their name on the sheet on the sports noticeboard in the CSA. This ensures I have accurate recording sheets prepared with matching numbers.
