A Successful Senior Athletics Carnival!
It was wonderful to see our students enthusiastically participate in our Athletics Carnival yesterday! Our students ran, jumped, threw and participated with joy. It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces. We know that these opportunities give our athletic students a chance to shine, they also provide all of our students an opportunity to have a go at new events, spark and interest in being active and to develop resilience.
Thank you to our community for turning out to cheer on our students, we loved you being there, cheering and supporting us with your help during the rotations. A huge thanks to our Junior school parent volunteers who supported Alison in the tuckshop to provide our special menu for the day. We certainly couldn’t have done this without our junior parents. Thank you!!
Of course, our Athletics Days are not possible without careful planning from Mrs Marks and George. This event has certainly been weeks in the planning. Thank you, Clare Marks, for your careful preparation for our students! I’m sure you will agree that our grounds looked amazing, thanks George and also all of our staff who helped to set up and pull down. Our staff (who are not all athletics experts) do an amazing job at running the events, encouraging all students to have a go and also carefully recording times, heights, lengths etc! It is important to support them as they try their best. Please let them know how much you appreciate them next time you are up at the school.

Reporting
Our dedicated teachers have been working with our students to complete their unit works for this term and help our students work through summative assessment tasks to assess what they know and can apply. Our teachers are expert in providing feedback and adjustments where necessary so that our students have the best chance of demonstrating what they can represent about their learning.
To ensure a consistency in judgements, our teachers over the last few weeks, have been engaging in moderation sessions with fellow staff members. At the end of this term, they will review each student’s folio of work to make on-balanced judgements for reporting to parents.
The first semester report cards will be distributed to parents, on Thursday 22 June online via QParents. Emailed copies of our report cards will be sent on Friday 23 June. It is important to recognise that the Australian Curriculum achievement standards clearly outline the expectations of a ‘C’, ‘Sound’ or ‘Working With’ standard. If your child attains a ‘C for their achievement, this means that they are on target for their age and year level.
Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like to discuss any components of the report card. We will offer parent teacher conferences again in weeks 8 and 9 of Term 3. We look forward to continuing the partnership with parents to help your child be successful at school.

Cybersafety
I’m sure that you will agree that CyberSafety Education is critical to help keep our children safe as they navigate an increasingly technology filled world. I have asked our friend, Sargent Ken, to deliver content from the ThinkUKnow age-appropriate courses designed for the Queensland Police to support our communities on Monday 19 June in two sessions – Years 3 and 4/Years 5 and 6. Sargent Ken will introduce the topics of:
ThinkUKnow: Gaming, devices and what you need to know
ThinkUKnow: Social media
Parents and carers are of course critically important in keeping children safe and so you’ll be pleased to know that there are many practical resources in the form of Fact Sheets available at the website - https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/resources-tab.
I will follow up with an email for our Year 3-6 students. Please take this opportunity to follow up with your child/ren after the presentation. It could be a great way to have these discussions about how to stay safe.
Parent Calendar Term 3
We like to give parents as much notice as possible for upcoming events. Please find our initial draft of our Term 3 Parent Calendar below. As there are changes made to this calendar, we will update you via the school newsletter. Happy planning!
QParents – Please sign up for consents!
As our DP, Karen recently emailed, all consent forms are now going to be available through QParents. For parents not currently registered, you will need to attend the office to collect a hard copy of any consent forms.
A reminder that this term, our report cards will be released through QParents initially on Thursday 22 June, we will still forward via email the following afternoon, 23 June.
QParent invitations have been sent to each family, but if you need assistance, please see Jill in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and odd Wednesdays. SIGN UP TODAY!
Have a great week! Gabrielle
As we begin to edge towards the end of Semester One, our students have been very busy finishing tasks and assessments. Teachers are also busily in the midst of marking students’ work and writing report cards.
Report Cards will be sent out to parents on Thursday in Week 10 of this term via QParents. So it is more important than ever that parents sign up to QParents before next week., The Report cards will provide parents with information about your childs’ academic ratings in each learning area. There are also comments on Academic strengths and weaknesses as well as comments about behaviour and work ethics now being given at the end of the report card.
It is also at this time, that I am reminded of our School Motto, “Cultivating Knowledge” as well as our Dayboro School vision “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
We strongly believe here at Dayboro school that our students should be engaged in the “richness” of learning and we strive to provide a diverse and challenging range of learning experiences that extend and encourage student creativity. We aim to provide a wide range of ways in which our students can present their knowledge and understandings and encourage all our students to have- a- go, take risks and do their best! Our ethos has always been around educating your child for the world of the future and to give them the skills and knowledge they will need to be happy, curious and engaged learners who will thrive in a variety of settings.

CELEBRATIONS
Every week teachers select students from their classes to receive the awards for each of our values.
To keep things simple, our code focuses on six values that we teach our students and these values sit under the expectations/ rules of Being Safe, Being Respectful and Being a learner at all times.
Simply called the 6B’s they are:
Be RESPECTFUL Of yourself, others and property
Be RESPONSIBLE Be safe and aware
Be POSITIVE Be kind, helpful and cheerful
Be PROUD Take pride in yourself, your work and your school
Be TOLERANT Be understanding of others’ ideas beliefs and feelings
Be KIND Treat others with compassion
We also have a weekly Principal’s Award. Once a term, in Week 10, we hold a Principal’s Morning Tea where all the Principal award recipients are invited. A Sheriff’s award is also presented once a term to students who demonstrate outstanding citizenship and are drawn from all the students who receive a Golden Gotcha throughout the term. This is also drawn in Week 10 of each term.
Congratulations to all our students who have received a Values award, Gotcha, Golden Gotcha or Principal’s award in Term 2.
A REMINDER ABOUT MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones and smart watches are considered a valuable item and are therefore not to be brought to school by students. The risk of damage, inappropriate use or loss is extremely high.
If, due to special circumstances, parents require a mobile phone to be carried by a child, the phone must be given to the child’s class teacher or handed into the office for the duration of the day.
We strongly encourage students to leave all toys at home. Treasured items may go missing, get broken, be lost, or sadly, taken. If something of value is brought to school (for Show and Tell for example) the student should hand it to the teacher for safe keeping. Any items brought to school should be clearly named for safe return to the owner if lost or misplaced.
LOST PROPERTY
Please ensure all clothing and property are clearly labelled with student’s names. At this time of year, especially, we are finding many jumpers being handed into the office as children warm up throughout the day and take their jumpers off but leave them behind somewhere. If they are named we can return them promptly to their owners. (which we do regularly) Having names on items means very little goes missing and items can be returned.
CSA Supervision Times
A reminder that we do not have staff on before school supervision until 8:15am each morning. Children should not be arriving at school before this time, unless they have before school commitments such as Choir or Band. We have seen an increase in the number of children arriving at school before this time, some even before 8am. We have an excellent before/after school service if needed. Helping Hands provide early morning supervision to students and walks them to the CSA every morning around 8:30am.
Thank you Mrs Ryan!
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Important reminder
Visitor sign in /out
Parents are reminded that it is EQ policy while visiting or volunteering in classrooms or tuckshop that you must present to the office to sign in and sign out when finished.
Today we had a practice evacuation drill. While we were doing our routine checks on persons signed into our school we had parents that had signed in this morning but had not signed out.
As you can understand this is of concern in the event of an emergency as we would need to ensure all persons are located and accounted for.
Could we please ask that before leaving you pop into the office to complete your sign out.
Lost Property
Reminder to name all items that come to school. If things are named, we can return them as soon as they are found to the owners.
I have a set of keys at the office. They were found by our cleaners in the grounds. Please come and identify them if you have lost some keys.
I also have a couple of drink bottles left on the oval after yesterdays senior carnival and a pair of Red framed sunglasses.
Please come to the office to collect.
QParents
Remember to sign up for Qparents so you can access your children's report cards, enter absences, fill in permission forms, pay for any accounts.
Uniform Shop – Online Ordering with School24 – Available from Tuesday 13th June
Time to get excited everyone, ordering uniforms with the click of a button!
We are thrilled to be able to share with you all that our new online ordering platform for Uniforms is NOW LIVE.
This is a very exciting step forward for our P&C and school community, and one that we hope will make ordering uniforms for our students that much easier. By moving to an online platform we will not only have complete visibility of our stock quantities at any given time, but can also offer parents the ability to order uniforms whenever is convenient.
We will continue to open the Uniform Shop every Thursday 8.30am – 9.30am to enable students to try on uniforms. This time will also be used to pack any orders placed and delivered to the office ready for collection. Uniforms are still able to be purchased at the Uniform shop on a Thursday morning.
Registration Guide and Parent/Student Account Activation
Parents will need to create School24 account to log on and place orders for their children. Setting up an account is quick and easy.
Please also find attached guides which have been created to assist parents with the following:
- Parent/ Student Registration Guide
- Uniform Ordering Guide
If you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our P&C Committee members or you can also contact School24 directly.
I would like to extend a massive thank you to our Treasurer, Katherine Fenwick, for the huge amount of work she personally put in to getting this up and running for our community. There have been many hours of research, discussions and collaborating with our committee and parents, training and inputing of data that has gone in to getting this up and running for our school community, and it simply would not have happened this quickly without Katherine. THANK YOU!
Tuckshop – French Day – Friday 23rd June (last day of term 2)
Orders for French Day will be open on Flexischools from Thursday. There’s lots of yummy treats available this year and orders will close at 9am Tuesday 20th, so jump on to Flexischools from Thursday and place your orders to avoid missing out on these yummy treats.
We will need some extra helpers in the tuckshop to assist with preparing and packing all these delicious French themed treats for our students. Do you consider yourself a master of French culinary techniques and traditions? No? Don’t worry, neither do we!
Rest assured that prior experience is not necessary! Please find below a volunteer register for the day. Come along and have some fun, it should be a great day!
To sign up, just follow the instructions on the page. It only takes a few seconds to do. Thank you for volunteering!
Tuckshop – Wednesday’s and Friday’s
We hope that the Yr 3-6 students and parents enjoyed their special tuckshop day for the Senior Sports Carnival. Thank you to Alison, Emily, Katherine and Laura for assisting with the preparation of the food for our hungry competitors, your superb burger and sausage making skills were greatly appreciated!
With so many of our community being struck down with these nasty bugs making the rounds we are struggling for volunteers on Wednesday and Friday tuckshop days.
With only 1 ½ weeks left of term we would love any assistance you could possibly give, even just an hour would be amazing and greatly appreciated. If you feel you could spare a bit of time, please contact Alison at tuckshop@dayboropandc.org.au or call on 3425 6111.
Next P&C Meeting – Monday 19th June – 6.30pm @ Dayboro State School admin building and online
Due to so many of our members and their families being unwell, we decided to postpone Monday’s meeting to enable everyone to rest and get well. We have rescheduled to next Monday, 19th June and look forward to seeing everyone again, whether it be in person or online. We would love to have as many respresentatives from the school and community as possible, so please reach out to Johanna at secretary@dayboropandc.org.au if you would like to attend our next meeting.
Rhiannon Fealy
P&C President
Congratulations to the students who entered our recent Speedy Sloth colouring in competition. As there were so many wonderful entries, we decided to award prizes for each year level in the lower school. Well done everyone, we hope you enjoy your new sloth pens.
Readers Cup Competition
Congratulations to our two Readers Cup teams who participated in this annual reading competition on June 5th. While there were some very tricky questions in this year’s competition, both of our teams performed well. This year was the biggest year yet for our region, with a total of 44 teams representing schools from across northern Brisbane. A very big thank you to the parents who were able to assist with transportation to and from the competition, your support is invaluable.
Overdue Books Reminder
All students in year levels from Prep – Year 3 are reminded that all of their Library books are now due to be returned before the holiday break. Students in Year 4 – Year 6 are able to borrow books over the holiday break, but all overdue books need to be returned before the end of term. Thank you to the family members who help to look for these overdue books.
We have a substantial number of books that were borrowed by students in Term 1 that still need to be returned. Due to the length of time that these books have been on loan they are now considered missing. Students have been given multiple reminders about these books. Families will be invoiced to replace these missing books if they haven’t been returned by the end of this term.
Book Week
Our annual celebration of children’s literature takes place next term from August 19th – 25th. This year’s theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire”.
We will hold our annual Book Week Character Costume Parade on Wednesday August 23rd ( during Book Week). We have also booked Meerkat Productions to present dramatized versions of two of the books which have been nominated for prizes during Book Week.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge reading period ends on August 25th. Remember to keep on reading over the holiday break. How many books will you read???
French Day – June 23
Here are some links for costume ideas. I am asking students to be creative and use what they have at home. They can also use ideas and costumes from previous years. Following are some photos from last years celebrations:
