Principal's News

 A Successful Senior Athletics Carnival!

It was wonderful to see our students enthusiastically participate in our Athletics Carnival yesterday! Our students ran, jumped, threw and participated with joy. It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces. We know that these opportunities give our athletic students a chance to shine, they also provide all of our students an opportunity to have a go at new events, spark and interest in being active and to develop resilience.

Thank you to our community for turning out to cheer on our students, we loved you being there, cheering and supporting us with your help during the rotations. A huge thanks to our Junior school parent volunteers who supported Alison in the tuckshop to provide our special menu for the day. We certainly couldn’t have done this without our junior parents. Thank you!!

Of course, our Athletics Days are not possible without careful planning from Mrs Marks and George. This event has certainly been weeks in the planning. Thank you, Clare Marks, for your careful preparation for our students! I’m sure you will agree that our grounds looked amazing, thanks George and also all of our staff who helped to set up and pull down. Our staff (who are not all athletics experts) do an amazing job at running the events, encouraging all students to have a go and also carefully recording times, heights, lengths etc! It is important to support them as they try their best. Please let them know how much you appreciate them next time you are up at the school.

Reporting

Our dedicated teachers have been working with our students to complete their unit works for this term and help our students work through summative assessment tasks to assess what they know and can apply. Our teachers are expert in providing feedback and adjustments where necessary so that our students have the best chance of demonstrating what they can represent about their learning.

To ensure a consistency in judgements, our teachers over the last few weeks, have been engaging in moderation sessions with fellow staff members. At the end of this term, they will review each student’s folio of work to make on-balanced judgements for reporting to parents.

The first semester report cards will be distributed to parents, on Thursday 22 June online via QParents. Emailed copies of our report cards will be sent on Friday 23 June. It is important to recognise that the Australian Curriculum achievement standards clearly outline the expectations of a ‘C’, ‘Sound’ or ‘Working With’ standard. If your child attains a ‘C for their achievement, this means that they are on target for their age and year level.

Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like to discuss any components of the report card. We will offer parent teacher conferences again in weeks 8 and 9 of Term 3. We look forward to continuing the partnership with parents to help your child be successful at school.

Cybersafety

I’m sure that you will agree that CyberSafety Education is critical to help keep our children safe as they navigate an increasingly technology filled world. I have asked our friend, Sargent Ken, to deliver content from the ThinkUKnow age-appropriate courses designed for the Queensland Police to support our communities on Monday 19 June in two sessions – Years 3 and 4/Years 5 and 6. Sargent Ken will introduce the topics of:

ThinkUKnow: Gaming, devices and what you need to know

ThinkUKnow: Social media

Parents and carers are of course critically important in keeping children safe and so you’ll be pleased to know that there are many practical resources in the form of Fact Sheets available at the website - https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/resources-tab.

I will follow up with an email for our Year 3-6 students. Please take this opportunity to follow up with your child/ren after the presentation. It could be a great way to have these discussions about how to stay safe.

Parent Calendar Term 3

We like to give parents as much notice as possible for upcoming events. Please find our initial draft of our Term 3 Parent Calendar below. As there are changes made to this calendar, we will update you via the school newsletter. Happy planning!
