This year, one of our improvement strategies has been to improve our students’ writing and creating texts. As we head into week 7, our learners are really developing their creativity and skills, producing some promising work. Teachers have been carefully developing their students’ understanding of the context, purpose and audience for their writing task and have in the last few weeks been teaching the text structure, cohesion and clause and sentence types. The students still have several weeks to refine their writing.
Your child/ren may have been speaking to you about their writing for this term – rhyming work/poem (prep), narrative story (retell – Year 1, and creating Year 2 and 3), traditional story (Year 4), analysis of a poem and creating a narrative (Year 5) or evaluating an individual author’s style (Year 6). I am amazed at how the individual feedback from our teachers and their peers has helped them to develop their writing skills…look at the work below.

Next steps for most of our year levels include a presentation of this piece of writing. Some year levels will present orally to their class or another age group, other year levels will create a multi-model presentation using a laptop or iPad. Our Year 6 students will present and interact in a panel discussion. Our teachers are also currently working to develop students’ speaking or multi-modal skills. Why don’t you ask your child/ren about their writing and their next steps? Our students are very enthusiastic to talk about their writing!
At Dayboro, we are keen to jump on opportunities to work with our regional advisors and partners from other schools to plan forward for excellence. Last week, our leadership team met with Principal Susan Hughes and Head of Department Jodie Beverley from Mt Samson SS and our regional support Principal Advisors for Teaching and Learning, Nicole Eldrett and Tara Shackcloth. We discussed some possible differentiation projects particularly aiming to extend and provide rich learning experiences for our high achieving students. We look forward to continuing this partnership as we plan into Term 4 and for 2023. I will keep our community informed as we plan forward with this extension project.
Parent Teacher Conferences Week 8

Booking will close this Friday so that teachers can be prepared for week 8.
Junior Athletics Day!
What a wonderful day of athletics on Friday! It was super to see our students committed to participation and fun in their activities. What a way to learn the foundation skills of these events. It was also great to hear the enthusiastic war cries, led by our dedicated Sports Captains and Vice Captains. Thank you to our staff who organised and encouraged the students through the event. A special mention needs to go to Mr D for his coordination and Gavin Pence for supporting the early set up.
Thank you also to all of the community members who attended. Your cheering and enthusiasm made for an exciting morning.

Have a great week!

Dear Families and Friends

Just a reminder also that over the last two weeks of this term, teachers will again be involved in curriculum planning in their Professional Learning Year Level Teams. Please be aware that there may be different teachers on your child’s classes in Weeks 8, 9 and 10 while teachers are released off class to collaboratively plan and moderate with their Year Level teams.
Also, please look out for Swimming Notes being sent out this week for Prep-Yr 2 classes. Swimming starts next term in Week 2 of the term for these Year Levels.
As we head closer to the holidays, it is important to remember to remind children to keep focused on their work at school and at home.
Homework, especially reading homework, is an important part of being prepared for learning and revising concepts taught in class, at home, helps children at school. I would encourage all children to be reading or read to every night!
WRITING AT DAYBORO
At Dayboro we value creative, authentic and engaging writing for a purpose. Our goal for 2022 has been to lift the engagement of our students in writing in all its’ forms and to celebrate successes in writing. Our teachers work hard to embed the teaching of high quality writing practices in their classrooms. Teachers meet regularly to discuss and share writing samples of students and it is pleasing to see our students working so diligently on their writing goals and becoming better writers!

Year 3 students having fun at their ‘Multiplication Fair’.
Students in 3P were given 30 minutes to design and create a multiplication game; which they displayed at the Multiplication Fair. They had great fun trying out each other’s games while consolidating different strategies to work out multiplication problems.

Great work 3P!
Prep T has silk worms!
Does anyone have Mulberry leaves for our busy little silk worms to eat? We only need 1 bag a week and Mrs T will keep them in the Prep fridge.
Thank you

Contratulations to all those students attending the Regional Athletics this week.
We are all cheering you on!
Wow, what a big fortnight it has been! I hope everyone is going well and enjoying everything that is happening here at school. I have been busy running Nerf Games at lunch time on a Monday. This week the Year 6’s had a go and Year 3 will get their turn next week. We had Pancake Day last Tuesday – it was so great to have everyone in the CSA enjoying a yummy breakfast together. This term I have been taking a Year 5 and a Year 6 girls team along to league tag at Gala Day (alongside Miss Delisser). Last week we won all of our games! I am so proud of how the girls are working together. As always, I have been running my play time clubs. Some favourites are chalk drawing, basketball club, card games, footy, soccer and cricket. Take a look at this amazing chalk dragon drawn by a Year 6 student who then kindly helped a Year 1 student draw her own. It’s so great to see students helping each other and having fun.
You may have seen in last weeks newsletter that Mrs Tavelardis and I went and did some professional development in Rock and Water recently. It’s a great psychophysical program designed to help students regulate their emotions through engaging play. We are super excited to implement it here at school!
Lastly, SUPA club has started every other Friday afternoon and we had a great time together learning new things, painting and dancing. See the flyer below for further information.

Welcome to week 7 more than halfway through the term how exciting! These past few weeks we have started our art club on a Wednesday which has been a great success and our children are loving the opportunity to get creative and show the skills they have. We have also started our science club on a Tuesday, the children have been sharing all their ideas of what experiments they would like to do. The best part of our science club is they get to learn and play at the same time. We got to explore and make oobleck which was very messy however, the children said they loved it and even what to try it at home. Science club gets the children thinking and exploring about the world around them and being able to have fun in the process.
A reminder to confirm your bookings are correct via the iparent portal. We also have some lost property still in the black bucket outside the service, so please encourage your child/ren to check this regularly (there are drink bottles, jumpers and hats with no names).
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Alternatively, please send the service a text message on the mobile number below. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Need a helping hand before or after school? Enrolling your child/ren is easy and there are no enrolment fees. Visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au , click 'How to enrol’ on the right-hand side of the page, and follow the steps. When this is submitted, we will be in touch as soon as possible to support the finalisation of your enrolment and initial bookings. If you have any issues, please contact Ryan at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts team on 1300 612 462.

Free Movie Screening: '2040"
Dayboro State School Thursday 15th September, 4-5.30pm
Open to all in the community (primary school children must be accompanied by an adult).
About the movie:
2040 follows director Damon Gameau's imagining of a future for his four-year old daughter Velvet, where climate change has been solved. Described as “an exercise in fact-based dreaming” the film is structured as a letter to his daughter whereby Gameau travels around the world investigating numerous solutions that can contribute towards climate mitigation and imagining what a future would be like where they have been implemented at scale. In choosing what to feature in the film, Gameau restricted it to solutions that are either already available or have a realistic potential to greatly contribute to reversing climate change by the year 2040. The film features interviews with numerous academics, ecological experts and entrepreneurs, yet manages to be entertaining for all ages.
