Principal's News
This year, one of our improvement strategies has been to improve our students’ writing and creating texts. As we head into week 7, our learners are really developing their creativity and skills, producing some promising work. Teachers have been carefully developing their students’ understanding of the context, purpose and audience for their writing task and have in the last few weeks been teaching the text structure, cohesion and clause and sentence types. The students still have several weeks to refine their writing.
Your child/ren may have been speaking to you about their writing for this term – rhyming work/poem (prep), narrative story (retell – Year 1, and creating Year 2 and 3), traditional story (Year 4), analysis of a poem and creating a narrative (Year 5) or evaluating an individual author’s style (Year 6). I am amazed at how the individual feedback from our teachers and their peers has helped them to develop their writing skills…look at the work below.

Next steps for most of our year levels include a presentation of this piece of writing. Some year levels will present orally to their class or another age group, other year levels will create a multi-model presentation using a laptop or iPad. Our Year 6 students will present and interact in a panel discussion. Our teachers are also currently working to develop students’ speaking or multi-modal skills. Why don’t you ask your child/ren about their writing and their next steps? Our students are very enthusiastic to talk about their writing!
At Dayboro, we are keen to jump on opportunities to work with our regional advisors and partners from other schools to plan forward for excellence. Last week, our leadership team met with Principal Susan Hughes and Head of Department Jodie Beverley from Mt Samson SS and our regional support Principal Advisors for Teaching and Learning, Nicole Eldrett and Tara Shackcloth. We discussed some possible differentiation projects particularly aiming to extend and provide rich learning experiences for our high achieving students. We look forward to continuing this partnership as we plan into Term 4 and for 2023. I will keep our community informed as we plan forward with this extension project.

Junior Athletics Day!
What a wonderful day of athletics on Friday! It was super to see our students committed to participation and fun in their activities. What a way to learn the foundation skills of these events. It was also great to hear the enthusiastic war cries, led by our dedicated Sports Captains and Vice Captains. Thank you to our staff who organised and encouraged the students through the event. A special mention needs to go to Mr D for his coordination and Gavin Pence for supporting the early set up.
Thank you also to all of the community members who attended. Your cheering and enthusiasm made for an exciting morning.

Have a great week!
