Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2022, as they spoke to the Dayboro student community. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made Dayboro great – our school rules of Safety, Respect and Learning and our school values: Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Tolerant, Be Respectful, Be Proud and Be Positive.
Some of the students spoke about the impact their friends, teachers and parents have had on their learning and wellbeing, others gave examples of what makes our school so great – friendly students, the great learning environment and the supportive staff. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community they belong to.
This week we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.

Congratulations to our class of 2021!!!

2022 Staffing
Thank you so much to the Dayboro community, for welcoming me this year. I have so enjoyed working with the students, the staff, the parents and the wider community! In 2022, Garry Drummond will return as Principal of Dayboro State School. I know that Garry is excited to be returning and the students will of course know Mr Drummond. I am sure that Garry will acknowledge how much work our staff and community have done this year to continue this great learning environment for our students. While I am sad to leave and will miss the Dayboro community immensely, I feel so much richer for the experience! Thank you for having me.
Some slight staffing changes for 2022 include:
- On Monday’s assembly we said goodbye to Mrs Linda Smith, long time Dayboro staff member – teacher and Head of Curriculum, but also in her years Acting Deputy, and Acting Principal. We wish her well for her retirement! Photos from parade
- Our Guidance Officer Mrs Robyn McNee will not continue at Dayboro SS, working solely at her base school placement. We will welcome Mr Angus McGarva as our 2022 Guidance Officer
- We will say good bye and good luck to our 2M teacher Mrs Polly Bennett on Thursday at our final parade
- Mrs Deidre Mathiesen will continue in Term 1 as Acting Head of Curriculum
- Ms Kylie Mitrovski will continue in Term 1 as Acing Business Manager
On Friday will farewell Mrs Alison Taylor, long term Tuckshop coordinator extraordinaire. We will miss you Mrs Taylor!!!

Parents and carers will be emailed when school staff recommence, early in the year, by their child/ren’s class teacher and class location details. A reminder that we will welcome our families to meet the teacher and drop off book packs on Thursday 20 January. Please read you email from the Principal early in January informing you of the timing and details of the open morning.
Junior Swimming Carnival
What a great day we had at the Junior Swimming Carnival in week 7. The children did their very best, participating, cheering on their friends and having a ball in their water events. It was wonderful to see every student have a go at swimming!

Senior Carnival
While the weather has not been kind to us, we look forward to the much-anticipated Senior Carnival on Monday 6 December.
Planning for 2022
To help us to provide accuracy in our planning, we really need to ensure that we have accurate enrolment information. Could you please let our admin officers know if your child is not returning in 2022 admin@dayboross.eq.edu.au.
Parking in Cruice St or bus zones
Please be mindful of our very tolerant school neighbours and our community when dropping off and picking up. It has been reported that there are parent cars parking in the no standing zone on Cruice St. Our friendly bus drivers also have concerns from time to time when parents are parked in the bus zone. Thank you for your consideration.
Have a great week!
Gabrielle
Dear Families and Friends,
COMMUNITY
Well, the term and year is almost over……
As always at this time of year, I am again reminded of my favourite quote:
“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Helen Keller
The School Review team who visited this term commented on how much the community looks out for, supports and values our school and staff and that the community partnerships we nurture and appreciate help drive improved outcomes for our students and add to the caring safe and supportive school environment we provide! WOW! Of course, there are many people working busily behind the scenes making sure that our students don’t miss out on anything. Many thanks to our, Uniform, Tuckshop and P&C helpers who contribute so much and have worked so hard to make sure some of our favourite events like the Colour Run and Dad’s Tuckshop Day happen. Chaplaincy, Story Dogs (Thanks Leesa and Humphrey), our local Kindies, Sgt Ken and the Sheriff’s Awards, our Emergency Services who visit for Under 8’s, our local MP and the list goes on!!!! You all help to make a difference and contribute to the success of our students in so many areas.
Of course, we say goodbye to Mrs Taylor this year, whose dedication and hard work in our tuckshop for over many many years. She has helped shape the community that is Dayboro State School. Always, the top priority for Mrs Taylor was the health and well being of our students. Mrs Taylor organised Special Tuckshop Days, International Food days, Christmas Long Lunches and Iceblocks on the last day to name a few events, all for the enjoyment and delight of the kids. We’re going to miss you Mrs Taylor. Many thanks and we wish you all the best!
Also, while Dayboro students continued to shine academically this year and excelled in a range of extra-curricular pursuits, what continues to define our students is their excellent commitment to the values and behaviour codes of our school. The support of parents is also highly important in ensuring our expectations around being safe, respectful and learners are constantly upheld. So...Thank you students and parents for making Dayboro a great school!
Finally …. I could not do an end of year Newsletter without personally thanking our Student Leaders and the other Yr 6 students who have been invaluable in the journey at Dayboro this year- thank you to Will H, Will F. Hollie and Bronte, as well as all the Yr 6 Sports and Music leaders and cohort. Thank you all for your helpfulness and responsible ways. All of you really do demonstrate and model for others Responsibility, Safety and Learning in so many ways but most of all you are wonderful humans and I wish you all the best for your future at High School. You will all shine!!!
EXCITING WRITING
At Dayboro one of our curriculum priorities has been to help all students improve in the area of writing. Teacher and students have been focussed on improving engagement and creativity in our students as writers. We have nurtured and celebrated every student as an author this year and all students have writing goals to work towards. We even had our own D.S.S. Writing Competition and an Author’s Visit. We love celebrating writing in all its’ different forms and aim to identify and extend talented authors that exist in every classroom.

Library Borrowing
A reminder that borrowing for 2021 has now finished and we require all loans to be returned as soon as possible. Notes and invoices for missing books will be sent home in this week.
Book Donation from Helping Hands
A very big thank-you to Helping Hands who donated book vouchers which allowed each class in the school to select a book for their classroom.
RoboBay Robotics Competition
Congratulations to all of the teams who attended the RoboBay robotics competition last week. Students attended the competition not knowing what their challenge would be until they arrived at the USC campus at Moreton Bay. All of the teams worked cooperatively to code robots to move models of famous Australian Landmarks to set locations on a large map. We look forward to continuing our robotics program into 2022.
Library Award Winners
Summer Reading Club 2021
The Summer Reading Club is set to begin on the 1st of December. The goal of this initiative is to keep children reading and engaged with stories throughout the Summer holiday break. Participants can register to join in with a range of activities facilitated by the State Library of Queensland. Students will need to ask parents/carers for permission before registering.
Join in with the Summer Reading Club through Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. Reading competitions and prizes are available through the Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. Keep an eye out for displays and activities in the libraries, art galleries and museums across the region during the holiday break.
The Summer Reading Club challenge sheet (pictured below) is available for collection from the Library. Students who return completed challenge sheets after the holiday break are welcome to come and collect an incentive prize from the Library in recognition of their participation.
Have a great holiday break!
Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
LOOK at what we'll be getting up to over the school holidays. See below to find out how YOU can join in the fun.
Vacation care bookings have opened for December/January. Children can be booked in via the iparent portal, under the bookings tab. A reminder that children must be enrolled prior to commencing care (how to enrol is further down). We have some fantastic excursions, incursions and theme days planned, (current families should have received a copy via the iparent portal communications).
A reminder that children require a hat and re-fillable drink bottle each session. Please ensure these are correctly labelled should they get misplaced.
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Please see one of our educators for support if you are experiencing issues making or managing your bookings. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Looking to join in on the fun? Enrolling your child/ren is easy and there are no enrolment fees. Visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au , click Register on the top right corner, select Dayboro as your service and fill in all the details to register your iParent Portal account and enrol. When this is submitted, we will be in touch as soon as possible to support the finalisation of your enrolment and initial bookings.
Come and join in with some community fun.
Kick of is 5pm and will conclude with Santa arriving at 7pm.
Councillor Grimwade will give a Christmas message on behalf of MBRC and a representative from the Combined Churches will deliver a Christmas message also.
We look forward to seeing you there.
