Principal's News

Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2022, as they spoke to the Dayboro student community. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made Dayboro great – our school rules of Safety, Respect and Learning and our school values: Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Tolerant, Be Respectful, Be Proud and Be Positive.

Some of the students spoke about the impact their friends, teachers and parents have had on their learning and wellbeing, others gave examples of what makes our school so great – friendly students, the great learning environment and the supportive staff. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community they belong to.

This week we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.

GD_1_Leaders.pngNext week we will farewell our fabulous Year 6 2021 cohort. While it will be with mixed emotions, I know that our students are well equipped and thoroughly prepared for their next step in education! This Year 6 cohort has worked hard throughout 2021 to lead our students, make the most of every opportunity and participate in everything Dayboro SS had to offer.

Congratulations to our class of 2021!!!

2022 Staffing

Thank you so much to the Dayboro community, for welcoming me this year. I have so enjoyed working with the students, the staff, the parents and the wider community! In 2022, Garry Drummond will return as Principal of Dayboro State School. I know that Garry is excited to be returning and the students will of course know Mr Drummond. I am sure that Garry will acknowledge how much work our staff and community have done this year to continue this great learning environment for our students. While I am sad to leave and will miss the Dayboro community immensely, I feel so much richer for the experience! Thank you for having me.

Some slight staffing changes for 2022 include:

  • On Monday’s assembly we said goodbye to Mrs Linda Smith, long time Dayboro staff member – teacher and Head of Curriculum, but also in her years Acting Deputy, and Acting Principal. We wish her well for her retirement! Photos from parade
  • Our Guidance Officer Mrs Robyn McNee will not continue at Dayboro SS, working solely at her base school placement. We will welcome Mr Angus McGarva as our 2022 Guidance Officer
  • We will say good bye and good luck to our 2M teacher Mrs Polly Bennett on Thursday at our final parade
  • Mrs Deidre Mathiesen will continue in Term 1 as Acting Head of Curriculum
  • Ms Kylie Mitrovski will continue in Term 1 as Acing Business Manager

On Friday will farewell Mrs Alison Taylor, long term Tuckshop coordinator extraordinaire. We will miss you Mrs Taylor!!!

Parents and carers will be emailed when school staff recommence, early in the year, by their child/ren’s class teacher and class location details. A reminder that we will welcome our families to meet the teacher and drop off book packs on Thursday 20 January. Please read you email from the Principal early in January informing you of the timing and details of the open morning.

Junior Swimming Carnival

What a great day we had at the Junior Swimming Carnival in week 7. The children did their very best, participating, cheering on their friends and having a ball in their water events. It was wonderful to see every student have a go at swimming!

Senior Carnival

While the weather has not been kind to us, we look forward to the much-anticipated Senior Carnival on Monday 6 December.

Planning for 2022

GDoug_Let_us_know.png

To help us to provide accuracy in our planning, we really need to ensure that we have accurate enrolment information. Could you please let our admin officers know if your child is not returning in 2022 admin@dayboross.eq.edu.au.

Parking in Cruice St or bus zones

GDoug_3_Parking.png

Please be mindful of our very tolerant school neighbours and our community when dropping off and picking up. It has been reported that there are parent cars parking in the no standing zone on Cruice St. Our friendly bus drivers also have concerns from time to time when parents are parked in the bus zone. Thank you for your consideration.

Have a great week!
