Dear Parents and Caregivers
Remembrance Day
Our School Captains will represent our school on Monday November 11 at the Remembrance Day Service at Roderick Cruice Park. Our students will be involved in the ceremony, reading poetry, laying a wreath and managing the flag raising. All members of the community are invited to attend with the service commencing at 10.40am.
Prep Orientation Morning
Dayboro State School would like to welcome our 2020 Prep students to an Orientation Morning on Tuesday 12 November from 9.30am. This is a great opportunity for our newest students to become familiar with the Prep classroom and experience some of the activities they will undertake in the first year of school.
Free Dress Day- This Friday 8 November
The Student Council will be holding a Free Dress Day this Friday 8 November with the theme of “Celebrating Summer”. Students are invited to wear their summer themed clothing (please - no singlet tops, togs or other non-sun safe clothing) for the cost of a gold coin. All proceeds will go towards end of year Student Council activities.
Planning for 2020
Planning for staffing and classes occurs during Term 4. To assist with accuracy in planning, could I please ask at this stage:-
- Prep Enrolments – Could these be finalised as soon as possible by delivering the enrolment forms and birth certificates to the school office. An enrolment for Prep cannot be confirmed until all the required documentation has been submitted.
- Leaving Dayboro State School (excluding Year 6) – If any of our families are aware that they are moving from the area or the school, could this please be communicated to our school office as soon as possible.
This information assists us greatly with estimating teacher and class numbers for the new year and your assistance would be much appreciated.

Principal
Dear Families and Friends
Over the last few weeks, the children and teachers have been very busy working hard on completing assessment tasks, checking in on reading, writing, numeracy and spelling growth and finishing assignments but most importantly they have been reflecting on and celebrating a year of wonderful learning achievements. While many children embrace the chance to show their teacher and others how much they have learnt and are easily able to reflect on their successes and challenges, some children may feel a little overwhelmed at this time of year with all the expectations they feel they need to meet. But…..
We can help our children to navigate these challenges through helping to instil in them a “Growth” mindset.
Below are 6 tips for promoting a “growth mindset” in children.
- Help children understand that the brain works like a muscle that can only grow through hard work, determination and lots and lots of practice.
- Don’t tell students they are smart, gifted or talented since this implies they were born with the knowledge, and does not encourage effort and growth.
- Let children know when they demonstrate a growth mindset. “I can always improve so I’ll keep trying.”
- Praise the process. It’s effort, hard work and practice that allow children to achieve their true potential.
- Embrace mistakes and challenges. Children sometimes learn the most when they make mistakes. Let them know they are a big part of the learning process. There is nothing like the feeling of struggling through a very difficult problem, only to finally break through and solve it.
- Encourage participation and collaborative group learning. Children learn best when they are immersed in a topic and allowed to discuss and learn with their peers.
(Based on research in Dr Carol Dweck- Revisits the Growth Mindset)
PREP OPEN MORNINGS
This term sees the start of our 2020 Prep Orientation visits and Prep Open mornings. See below for details. We encourage all our Prep parents and children for 2020 to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to visit our school and learn more about our Prep classrooms.
Yr 5 Parents Needed!
Year 5 Parents- We need a small group of Yr. 5 parents who would be willing to help with the Yr. 6 Graduation evening.
Date: Wednesday 11th December - 7-10pm. You would be required for a couple of hours on the night to serve food and drinks to the Yr.6 students and their parents. We also need a small group of Yr.5 parents to help prepare the food for the night. The food will be paid for by P and C but they would like volunteers to assist in organising. Please see Karen Ryan DP or Mia Gillies, Secretary of P and C, if interested. You can contact us via the office. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Now that the days are starting to get warmer please remember that it is an expectation that all children wear hats during play times and PE lessons. The rule is “No Hat, no Play!”
Children that do not wear hats are expected to be in the CSA areas during break times

Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Current Invoices
Students have been invoiced for the following activities:
- Year 6 Camp: $380.00, due this Friday 8th
If you have yet to pay for the Camp and require a payment plan, please contact the school ASAP to arrange.
End of Year Financial Closures
We are quickly closing towards the end of the year, and as such there are a myriad of tasks everyone is trying to complete. To align with the Department’s end of year finance procedures, we ask that all payments and payment plans be finalised by Friday 29th November. This does not include payments made to the P&C for Tuckshop or the Uniform Shop.
After the 29th November, no payments will be taken at the office.
If you have a payment plan in place and require an extension beyond the 29th November, please contact the School to speak with the Business Manager.
Payment: Plans & How to Pay
Payment plans are available for all families, whether you are experiencing financial difficulties or you would prefer to pay for excursions / camps in a lengthy timeframe. Payments must be made regularly, and must be completed by 29th November 2019. This is to ensure all of our excursions are reconciled and meet financial deadlines.
There are several ways to pay for excursions and school activities at Dayboro State School:
- Online payments - BPOINT
By clicking on the BPOINT link on your invoice, it will take you directly to the website to pay via credit card.
- Paying by phone.
If you do not wish to process payments online, you are able to pay by phone using a credit/debit card via BPOINT 1300 631 073.
Please quote the CRN and invoice number located at the bottom of the invoice.
- Paying in person.
You can pay in person at the Dayboro State School Administration using EFTPOS, Visa, MasterCard or cash.
In 2020, Dayboro State School will be looking into using another Department preferred method of payment, QKR by MasterCard. This is an app you download to your smart phone and can process payments directly through the app. We will look at the option of having the uniform shop added to QKR as well, to make it easier for parents. More information about QKR will come towards the end of the year and early in 2020.
Making Payments at the Office
All payments made at the office will be issued with a receipt at the time of payment. Unfortunately we are no longer accepting payments through the ‘Payments and Permissions’ box, aligning our financial procedures with the Department of Education. If students are taking the money to school, they will be required to come to the office before school or at lunch times for payments. Ideally, students making payments should be paid to the office before school, between 8am and 8:40am.
Facilities Hire
As Dayboro State School has a strong association with the local community, we allow community groups to hire certain areas of the school. Our facilities such as the Hall, Under Covered Area (CSA), Oval and Tennis Court are available to hire at a set cost.
All Facilities Hire arrangements need to be discussed with the Business Manager and are approved by the Principal. All fees go directly into the school, whether that be maintaining our grounds and facilities, or providing additional resources for our students.
For more information on our Facilities Hire, please contact the school office.
Kind regards,
Clare Gault
Business Manager
Upcoming Events
As we move towards the end of the year, the following events are supported by P&C: the
Volunteer Helpers Morning Tea (29 November) to thank all volunteers to the School, our School Banking volunteers, Tuckshop, the Uniform Shop, and to P&C in general (with invites to be sent out very soon).
Year 6 Graduation Disco and Meal Night (11 December), which P&C will fund the costs of catering and Dance Fever hire, with Year 5 parents organising this evening’s graduation send-off for our Year 6 students.
Student Leaders for 2020
As P&C President, I will again be participating in the selection process for our School’s Leaders for next year and will be attending the School Captain speeches and ballot (21 November), and will be part of the panel for the School Captain interviews (28 November). I wish all the students involved the very best in their school leadership aspiration endeavours and look forward to being part of this important annual school process.
P&C’s final general meeting for 2019 is Monday 2 December at 6.30pm:
This will be a quick meeting reviewing the year’s affairs, along with setting the stage for re-starting the work of P&C early in the coming New Year. After this meeting we are joining with Senior School Staff for a social end of year gathering and meal, with more details as we get closer to the date. Also note that P&C’s AGM for next year has been scheduled for Monday 9 March 2020.
Volunteering for Tuckshop and the Uniform Shop
The Tuckshop and Uniform Shop are P&C’s two main business entities which provide important services to our students and families. More volunteers are needed to help staff and operate both these services. Please consider assisting as both require more volunteers to ensure these can operate effectively not only this, but especially through 2020.

Maker Space
International Games Week.
This week is International Games Week and we have a range of activities and challenges available for students throughout the week. As well as developing social skills and communication strategies, board games benefit students through extending their understanding of the importance of rules, taking turns and problem solving skills.
Students can construct a Lego Ball Game or code a computer game using Scratch Junior. We have a wide variety of board games and card games to play in the Library – as a special challenge students can play Snakes and Ladders using the Bee Bots as their playing pieces. Older students have the opportunity to create their own board game – including designing and printing their own playing pieces for their game using the 3D printers.
New Books
We have a wide selection of brand new books on display in the Library this week. These books have been purchased from Scholastic using the rewards points that were made available following the Book Club orders from Term 3. We are very grateful for the families who purchase books through Book Club, which in turn allows us to add books to our Library collection that are requested by our students.
All of these books have been written by authors that are popular with our students, many of the titles are part of an established series that we have available for students in our Library.
Thank you,
Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
SENIOR Swimming Carnival (Years 3-6)
Nominations have been coming in for our carnival at a very good rate – it’s great to see so many of our children willing to have a go. If your child still hasn’t nominated, it isn’t too late! Make sure they return the bright orange coloured form to their class teacher as soon as possible – these are due this Friday. We’re hoping that as many children as possible can enter into at least one race. While there is a competitive side of the carnival for the more serious swimmers, the main emphasis for us is on participation. There will be novelty events organised on the day also. Parents, please also consider nominating for time-keeping duties – it’s a great way to get involved.
DSS Sports Committee
Students in all classes have been issued with Book Club brochures today. This is the last opportunity to order from Book Club this year and there are a wide variety of books to choose from. Also remember that books also make excellent Christmas gifts.
All orders are due on LOOP or back at school by the 21st of November to ensure book delivery before the end of year holiday break.
