Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome back to Term 3. A special welcome is extended to the new families who have joined the Dayboro State School community this term.
The holiday was also the opportunity for our school to be showcased at the annual Dayboro Show. If you had the chance to see our school displays, I am sure you would agree about the high quality of our entries. Thank you to our teachers and our teacher aides for the extraordinary amount of time which goes into organising and preparing these fantastic displays.
I would also like to extend a thank you to Sergeant Ken and his team of School Watch volunteers who keep a close watch on our school during the holiday breaks. This is much appreciated by all our students and staff.
Woolworths Earn and Learn

Prep Enrolments -2020
If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2019. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application, however the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2020.

Dear Families and Friends
Welcome back everyone to Term 3. A special welcome to our new students and families that have enrolled this term.
Big events this term include Dance Fever lessons. These lessons are part of our school curriculum and will be happening every Thursday for every class. Our first lessons start this Thursday, so payments need to be finalised before then. Please make this a priority this week. There will be an end of term celebration of a Family Dance Night on Thursday 12th September to look forward to. Our Walkathon is happening in Week 3 and Book Week will be upon us sooner than we think in Week 6. So, start thinking about those costumes. The theme for Book Week this year is “Reading is my Super Power.” Year 5 are heading to Camp Currumundi in Week 5 this term and Year 4 will take part in Bike Ed lessons in the last week of the term.
Of course, amongst all these events the children will continue to do what they do best at Dayboro … learning! Parents will also have the opportunity this term to discuss their child’s learning progress in parent teacher interviews that are scheduled for Weeks 9 and 10 this term.
Lastly, a reminder about uniform expectations here at Dayboro. Thank you everyone for making a fantastic effort with uniforms. It is great to see so many children wearing their uniform with pride. A remidner too that we would like to see as many children as possible wear their checked formal uniform on a Monday. The Uniform Shop is also now open every Monday morning to assist with any uniform needs. Please help us with these expectations as we take great pride here at Dayboro in wearing our uniform correctly.
Also please remember to name personal belongings like jumpers, hats and drink bottles. We had quite a collection of items in the Lost Property box at the end of last term that we could not return to their owners as they were unnamed. Thank you for your support!
IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT KEEPING KIDS HEALTHY AT SCHOOL.
Unfortunately for our students, we had a lot of absences at the end of last term due to many students suffering from a variety of conditions such as colds, flus and gastroenteritis- vomiting/ diarrhoea. Below is a list of Infectious Conditions and possible health risks that children may be exposed to. There are recommended Exclusion periods for some conditions. If you are ever unsure, please ring the office and they will be able to help you.
Thank you to everyone, students and staff, for our amazing Dayboro State School displays at the Dayboro Show this year. There was an impressive collection of works on display and they highlighted how important our community is to us here at Dayboro. Thank you to Mrs Taylor for her fabulous array of indigenous treats available from the tuckshop on the last day of last term to help us celebrate NAIDOC Week.
Welcome back to Term 3!
Welcome back to all of our families. I hope you all had a nice (albeit cold) break with families and friends, and are ready for another busy term.

Facilities Update
The air-conditioning in the library has now been installed, and it looks great! Again, a massive thank you to our fabulous P&C for providing this. We can’t wait to use it in the Summer months!
Ancillary Staff Thanks!
Each holiday period whilst we are all away, some of our ancillary staff work the first week of the holidays to make sure the school is in top condition for when we return. I would like to thank our Cleaners and our Schools Officer for their efforts over the holiday period. The state of classrooms and the condition of the grounds is fabulous; your hard work certainly doesn’t go unnoticed!

Parent Volunteers Needed
Dayboro State School is looking for enthusiastic parents, grandparents or community members with a passion for gardening who would like to assist with gardening projects at the school.
Our first major project is for National Tree Day on Friday, 26 July (next week). We will be planting native trees and small understory plants along our back fence with the help of several classes. Darren Grimwade has kindly offered once again to donate plants for the occasion. We will need parents to assist George, our Facilities Officer, to prepare the ground for planting the week before.
If you are interested, please leave your contact details at the school office so we can get in touch with you.
Many thanks, Linda Smith (on behalf of the SEMP Committee
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
One of Brisbane Bus Lines services to Dayboro State School has very low student numbers and is in danger of closing.
The area affected is south of the school and includes Kobble Creek Road, Pringles Road, Farrow Road, Dale Road, Aitcheson Road and Boongala Court. Earlier this year Boongala Court was deleted from this run as there were no longer any STAS students residing on that road. Not all these roads are included on the current service but could be added if certain criteria is met.
In most cases the run from this area would be a free service. If you are interested in your child catching the bus to and/or from school please contact Brisbane Bus Lines on 3354 3633 for further information.
Thank you.
Library Awards
We are very pleased to announce the introduction of a new Library Award for students. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge a student from each class who has demonstrated a consistent love of reading and books throughout a school term. To be considered for the award students need to demonstrate enjoyment of reading through regular borrowing, they should show respect for other Library users by returning books promptly, and need to show respect for school property by returning books in an undamaged condition.
Congratulations to our first 15 award recipients who were announced at assembly on Monday.
New Books
This week in the Library we have some of the new books which we were able to purchase with the funds raised through our recent Book Fair on display. Titles include new Choose Your Own adventure books with Superman and Batman, Mighty Robot series (by Dav Pilkey – the author of the Dog Man series), new titles in the Wings of Fire series, Bear Grylls Adventures series, and The Princess in Black series to name a few.
These books will be available for loan from next week. Keep an eye out for more new books on display next week. We would like to thank our school community once again for supporting Book Fair.

Book Week Is Coming!
Term Three is always a busy term in the Library. Week 6 of this term is Book Week and we have a couple of big events planned to help us celebrate. Wednesday the 21st of August is our character costume parade – traditionally we have held our costume parade on the school oval at 9.00 a.m. on this day. It is always wonderful to see so many creative and thoughtful costumes on show.
We have also booked Meerkats Productions to visit our school on Thursday the 22nd of August. The production team has been very busy scripting and reheasing their performances over the last few weeks. The books that have been selected are “Room On Our Rock” for P – 2 students and “The Peacock Detectives” for students in Years 3 – 6. Last year’s performances were highly engaging for our students and we are sure that this year’s performances will be just as amazing. More information about the Book Week performance will be sent home with students in the coming weeks.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
A reminder that the 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge is still running – keep on reading!
Thank you,
Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H.
What’s happening at Helping Hands?
We have had an exciting two weeks of vacation care fun. In the first week we went up to Maleny to the dairy farm where children got to experience milking a cow and learning what goes on before the milk hits the shelves at the supermarket. This excursion was a favourite among the children who attended vacation care!! The first week also saw the children learn how to make a ferris wheel with lego in our first incursion, develop their cooking skills, make fake snow and assorted jewellery and key rings. In the second week, we tested our fitness skills and our tenpin bowling excursion saw the children and educators compete to get the highest score (Congratulations to Miss Jenny for outscoring us all and to Grace.G for coming a close second)! We also explored African music through drumming, dancing and singing as our second incursion. The children also explored the culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in acknowledgment of NAIDOC week. Next vacation care will surely be just as exciting, so keep a look out for when bookings open for it to join in the fun.
A big welcome back to our families who we haven’t seen for the school holidays – we are excited to see you and hear how your holidays were. With the new term, please ensure your bookings are up to date. You can do this via the kidsoft app or on the website.
We do have vacancies available for mornings and afternoons on selected days. To enrol your child, please visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au, selecting Dayboro as your service and following the prompts to access the iParent Portal. If you have any issues, please contact Jenny at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts on 1300 612 462.
