Thank you to the musical students (both cast and crew) for their commitment.

Student Leaders
This week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2025 speaking to our Dayboro senior students. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made our school great.
Some of the students nominating for School Captain, Sports Captain or Vice Captains’ roles spoke about themselves so proudly and offered some great ideas about what they would like to contribute to our school. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community to which they belong.
Our students also learned more about voting and having a say in a super respectful way. Such valuable lessons.
Today, we also listened to and voted for our Sports House and Vice-Captain for 2025. This process was also supported by a Nomination Booklet to assist students in identifying their goals for captaincy and confirming with their teachers if they have been able to demonstrate the school values that we expect of our leadership team.
On Friday, we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains, Environment and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.

Farwell to our Year 6 cohort
In week 11, we will farewell our well-loved Year 6 2024 cohort. While it will be with mixed emotions, I know that our students are well equipped and thoroughly prepared for their next step in education! This Year 6 cohort has worked hard throughout 2024 to lead our students, make the most of every opportunity and participate in everything Dayboro SS had to offer.
Congratulations to our class of 2024!!!
Christmas Disco
We are all getting super excited about the Christmas disco on Friday night, 6 December. We are very thankful to our P&C and Chaplaincy committee for putting on this event. It is sure to be a super fun evening. A reminder of the disco times:
- Junior 4:30-5:30pm (Prep-Year 2)
- Senior 6:00-7:00pm (Year 3-6)
DJ Chappy Hannah will treat our students will to dance music and games. Best dressed in Christmas gear will be awarded prizes. Please remember to send a gold coin for entry. All donations will go to support chaplaincy at our school. Thanks to our P&C, each student receives an ice block when leaving. P&C will also provide coolers with water.
I will speak to the students on Monday at assembly about the guidelines for the evening:
- Once students have entered the hall, they will need to remain in the hall until they are collected by parents or a family member over the age of 18. Please ensure they have someone to collect them.
- Younger siblings are permitted to the disco (thinking the Junior disco). Please note that any high school siblings or non-Dayboro State School students are not permitted and will be refused entry.
- Students are encouraged to bring their water bottle for refill at the water coolers in the hall.
- No food or drinks will be for sale on the night. Ice Blocks are to be consumed outside of the hall once they are collected.
Looking forward to this fun way of celebrating with our community!
Planning for 2025
In week 11, we will release our final 2024 DSS school newsletter. In this edition, we will outline any staff changes for 2025. I will also announce all of our class teachers and specialist teachers for 2025. Student class placements will be emailed by the afternoon of Wednesday 22 January, prior to the Meet and Greet afternoon on Thursday 23 January. This afternoon allows the students to bring up their 2025 school supplies and meet their class teacher and see their new learning environment. Pop it in the calendar?.
We are currently trying to plan effectively for class lists, new enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2025 school year. Please ensure that you contact our school administration team if your child/ren are not returning to Dayboro SS in 2025. Thank you for your support.
Student Success!
We love to celebrate our student successes inside and outside the classroom. One of our Year 5 students, Abigail works hard to train for a compete in barrel racing at rodeos on the weekends. At her last rodeo at Lowood, Abigail came home with a win in the Junior Division and ran her fastest time yet in the Opens.
Little brother Samuel in year 2, also competes at rodeos in the bull riding and roping events. This certainly looks like it takes a load of practise!
We have an artist in our midst….Harrison from Prep C– Won 2nd prize in the prep category for Peter Dutton’s Christmas Card comp. He will receive a $30 Children’s gift card?. Congratulations Harrison!
REBOOT
Emotional Regulation Program – Let’s skill our students!
As the end of the year draws close, our children will be experiencing a variety of emotions; excitement, (tiredness ?) and perhaps some anxiety about what the new school year will bring.
The end of the Term 4 is both busy and less predictable, as routines change to fit in with special events. For some of our students this is an exciting time of year and for some it can be a little overwhelming. It would be a great time to check in with your child/ren to see how they are feeling. The Reboot ‘check-in’ faces are used in classrooms and are a nice point of reference for a conversation.
Importantly, the next questions to ask after checking in are; 1) what do you need to feel better and 2) who can help? It’s an important skill for all people to learn that if we aren’t feeling great, we know who or what can help us. Please remind students of their ‘toolbox’ of strategies that can help them self-regulate if needed and let our school team know if we can help. Reboot encourages us to either go somewhere, do something or speak with someone when we need to.
Unpredictability and change can be hard. Recently we collaborated with Autism Queensland who visited our school. Their advice for transitions was relevant to all students. They have encouraged teachers and families to brainstorm a list of things that will be different next year, but also things that will be the same. For example, it can be comforting for students to know that although they may have a different classroom for 2025 and a different teacher, they will still have their friends to play with at lunchtimes and the routine of the school day to follow.
Another important way to help children with transitions is to encourage positive thinking and celebrate achievements. It’s a wonderful thing that we have made it to the end of 2024. What challenges has your child overcome this year? What have they learnt? What have they accomplished? How have they grown? What are they looking forward to over the Christmas break and at the start of 2025? I think we all need to be congratulated for doing our part to help our students flourish and in creating a supportive school culture and community, so well done you… 2 weeks to go- we’ve got this!
Parent Calendars
Please find attached the latest version (V5) of the Term 4 Parent calendar to assist you in planning forward for events.
Have a great week!

Junior Swimming Term 4
Last Friday we had our Junior Swimming final lessons for Prep, Year 1 2/3C and Year 3’s. Parents were invited to come along and watch what the students have been learning. Despite the consistent downpours many parents came along and it was great the children had a free swim at the end. Thank you to our swimming instructors – Amy, Michelle, Sam and Karen for teaching our youngest learners how to swim. We are looking forward to the Senior Swimming carnival next on the 3rd December.

Mrs Wilkinson.
This is the week. Get your tickets using the QR Code on the Flyer below.
The senior swimming carnival takes place next week (Tuesday 3rd December) starting at 9:00am. We aim to be finished by around 2:30pm. Nominations have now closed for this event. There will be a full program of events running on the day, along with sessions of novelty races and a free swim! Please ensure you have completed the consent forms on QParents, or on a paper copy, as no consent means no entry to the pool.
The children have two options for arriving at the carnival. Parents, you may drop children at school by 8:30am to walk down with school staff, or you may take your children directly to the pool to be handed over to staff at the gate there. If you choose the second option, please don’t bring them until at least 8:40am. These children will then be supervised in their house areas until everyone is at the pool. Of course, if you are attending as a spectator or volunteer you may bring your children with you. Rolls will be marked before events begin.
Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help with timekeeping at the pool – you will be contacted in the coming week to let you know which session you will be required.
Please remember the following details:
- Lunch, sunscreen, hats, plenty of water and sun safe swimming gear need to be packed. There will be shade provided on the day. If hair is below shoulder length, it needs to be well tied up, or a swimming cap needs to be worn.
- If your child is walking to the pool in the morning, please ensure they wear togs underneath their sports house uniform if possible. Closed in shoes must be worn for the walk. The children need to be at school no later than 8:30am!
- If you are dropping your child at the pool in the morning, but they are walking back to school in the afternoon – please make sure they have the appropriate uniform and closed in shoes to wear for this trip.
- The pool canteen will be open for lunch and refreshments.
Kind regards
