School Musical!!!

It was super exciting to see our school musical cast and crew of the musical – We Are Monsters, pound the floorboard on Saturday morning. This dedicated cast and crew have been working hard for the past 3 terms to ensure that their performances are polished and performed beautifully.

The Musical kicks off – THIS THURSDAY and FRIDAY. Book your tickets now on School 24:

Our Musical Cast and Crew have been practising super hard (all outside of school time) all year, with our passionate musical staff – Sherree Anderson, Melanie Delisser, Chris Robbo, Alicia Tavelardis, Dee Mathiesen, Chappy Hannah, Jill Warschau and Tom Makepeace!

Thank you to the musical students (both cast and crew) for their commitment.

Student Leaders

This week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2025 speaking to our Dayboro senior students. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made our school great.

Some of the students nominating for School Captain, Sports Captain or Vice Captains’ roles spoke about themselves so proudly and offered some great ideas about what they would like to contribute to our school. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community to which they belong.

Our students also learned more about voting and having a say in a super respectful way. Such valuable lessons.

Today, we also listened to and voted for our Sports House and Vice-Captain for 2025. This process was also supported by a Nomination Booklet to assist students in identifying their goals for captaincy and confirming with their teachers if they have been able to demonstrate the school values that we expect of our leadership team.

On Friday, we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains, Environment and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.

Farwell to our Year 6 cohort

In week 11, we will farewell our well-loved Year 6 2024 cohort. While it will be with mixed emotions, I know that our students are well equipped and thoroughly prepared for their next step in education! This Year 6 cohort has worked hard throughout 2024 to lead our students, make the most of every opportunity and participate in everything Dayboro SS had to offer.

Congratulations to our class of 2024!!!

Christmas Disco

We are all getting super excited about the Christmas disco on Friday night, 6 December. We are very thankful to our P&C and Chaplaincy committee for putting on this event.  It is sure to be a super fun evening. A reminder of the disco times:

  • Junior 4:30-5:30pm (Prep-Year 2)
  • Senior 6:00-7:00pm (Year 3-6)

DJ Chappy Hannah will treat our students will to dance music and games. Best dressed in Christmas gear will be awarded prizes. Please remember to send a gold coin for entry. All donations will go to support chaplaincy at our school. Thanks to our P&C, each student receives an ice block when leaving. P&C will also provide coolers with water.

I will speak to the students on Monday at assembly about the guidelines for the evening:

  • Once students have entered the hall, they will need to remain in the hall until they are collected by parents or a family member over the age of 18. Please ensure they have someone to collect them.
  • Younger siblings are permitted to the disco (thinking the Junior disco). Please note that any high school siblings or non-Dayboro State School students are not permitted and will be refused entry.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their water bottle for refill at the water coolers in the hall.
  • No food or drinks will be for sale on the night. Ice Blocks are to be consumed outside of the hall once they are collected.

Looking forward to this fun way of celebrating with our community!

Planning for 2025

In week 11, we will release our final 2024 DSS school newsletter. In this edition, we will outline any staff changes for 2025. I will also announce all of our class teachers and specialist teachers for 2025. Student class placements will be emailed by the afternoon of Wednesday 22 January, prior to the Meet and Greet afternoon on Thursday 23 January. This afternoon allows the students to bring up their 2025 school supplies and meet their class teacher and see their new learning environment. Pop it in the calendar?.

We are currently trying to plan effectively for class lists, new enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2025 school year. Please ensure that you contact our school administration team if your child/ren are not returning to Dayboro SS in 2025. Thank you for your support.

Student Success!

We love to celebrate our student successes inside and outside the classroom. One of our Year 5 students, Abigail works hard to train for a compete in barrel racing at rodeos on the weekends. At her last rodeo at Lowood, Abigail came home with a win in the Junior Division and ran her fastest time yet in the Opens.

Little brother Samuel in year 2, also competes at rodeos in the bull riding and roping events. This certainly looks like it takes a load of practise!

REBOOT

Emotional Regulation Program – Let’s skill our students!

As the end of the year draws close, our children will be experiencing a variety of emotions; excitement, (tiredness ?)  and perhaps some anxiety about what the new school year will bring.

The end of the Term 4 is both busy and less predictable, as routines change to fit in with special events.  For some of our students this is an exciting time of year and for some it can be a little overwhelming. It would be a great time to check in with your child/ren to see how they are feeling. The Reboot ‘check-in’ faces are used in classrooms and are a nice point of reference for a conversation.

GD_Reboot_1.png

Importantly, the next questions to ask after checking in are; 1) what do you need to feel better and 2) who can help? It’s an important skill for all people to learn that if we aren’t feeling great, we know who or what can help us. Please remind students of their ‘toolbox’ of strategies that can help them self-regulate if needed and let our school team know if we can help. Reboot encourages us to either go somewhere, do something or speak with someone when we need to.

GD_Reboot_2.png

Unpredictability and change can be hard. Recently we collaborated with Autism Queensland who visited our school. Their advice for transitions was relevant to all students. They have encouraged teachers and families to brainstorm a list of things that will be different next year, but also things that will be the same. For example, it can be comforting for students to know that although they may have a different classroom for 2025 and a different teacher, they will still have their friends to play with at lunchtimes and the routine of the school day to follow.

Another important way to help children with transitions is to encourage positive thinking and celebrate achievements. It’s a wonderful thing that we have made it to the end of 2024. What challenges has your child overcome this year? What have they learnt? What have they accomplished? How have they grown? What are they looking forward to over the Christmas break and at the start of 2025? I think we all need to be congratulated for doing our part to help our students flourish and in creating a supportive school culture and community, so well done you… 2 weeks to go- we’ve got this!

Please find attached the latest version (V5) of the Term 4 Parent calendar to assist you in planning forward for events.

Have a great week!
