Welcome Back to Term 4
It was great to see so many parents at the recent Parent Teacher Conferences, taking up the opportunity to catch up with your child’s learning journey and to collaborate with our teachers as to what you can also do, to assist your child to be ready for learning and meeting their goals. There are a few more conferences scheduled early this term. I encourage you to maintain that communication this term so that we can work together to ensure all of our students are successful.
Our teachers are released to meet each term with our Head of Department Curriculum, Dee Mathiesen. During these sessions, our highly skilled teachers carefully design the next steps in learning, in this case, the Term 4 units of work. As our teachers now know their students so well; the teachers are able to design their very next steps for learning.
This term is extremely full of learning experiences. Your child’s class teacher would have sent out your child/ren’s Year Level Curriculum Overview for the term so that you can discuss the specific topics in each subject with your child. This is a great way to connecting with school and getting children discussing their learning.

Digital Learning – Digital Learners for the Future Program
Our Year 4 Digital Learners for the Future Program was introduced this year at Dayboro State school and we are pleased to announce that we will be offering this program to our 2024 Year 3 students when they commence their Year 4 learning next year. We would therefore like to invite our current Year 3 parents to attend the Parent Session next Tuesday afternoon at 3:10pm, as advertised in our Parent Calendar last term:

We have recently been consulting with our Year 2 cohort families to ascertain whether to offer this program also to Year 3 in 2025. Thank you to the 75% of our Year 2 parents for responding! In the last survey, we had 71% of these respondents indicate that they would like their child to have the option to bring an iPad to school as a learning tool. Therefore, while we are waiting for P&C consultation, we would like to offer the session also to our Year 2 parents.
We are mindful that Digital innovation in teaching and learning features prominently in our Department of Education’s Excellence and Equity Strategy: realising the potential of every student.
This is an excerpt of our Equity and Excellence Key messages and resource guide:
Digital innovation in teaching and learning
- To prepare every child and student for a digitally-enabled future, we must ensure they have access to the technology that will enhance their learning.
- We will enhance teachers’ capability and confidence in digital teaching and learning.
- Investment in digital devices will provide students with greater access to technology and reduce barriers to learning.
- Digital learning connects students to more diverse curriculum and supports teachers to access specialist expertise.
We look forward to working with you.
Planning for 2025
In order to start planning for 2025, we are needing to secure our student numbers. Please contact the office ASAP if your family is moving from the school. We appreciate your assistance.
It has been wonderful connecting with our 2025 Preppies and their families, through our transition sessions, we will commence Prep interviews next week. We really look forward to continuing to get to know these prospective preppies over the next term as we offer interviews and further transition sessions. If you know of a child in our community who is due for Prep in 2025, please encourage them to contact our school office as we are enrolling NOW!
Student Success!
We continue to celebrate our Dayboro students’ success in achieving outside of the school environment. We take our hats off to these students’ perseverance in their chosen sports showing that super hard work can result in amazing achievements:
We have been following Lily’s journey representing Dayboro State School in Equestrian. On the holidays, Lily competed in the Queensland team, at the Australian Interschools Equestrian National Championships in Tamworth. There were 420 riders at the event from every state in Australia. After two days of riding representing Qld Lily came 11th overall in the country in the Primary Combined Training 45cm. Team Queensland also won the Highest Points Team award and the Best Team Spirit award. We are so very proud of Lily for her hard work. Thank you to our P&C for their donation to support Lily’s journey in representing Queensland!
We also had Hattie and Flo compete on the holidays in the Queensland Pony Club State Championships in Taroom. Congratulations to Hattie, who won 2 Queensland State champion titles, being the highest pointed rider out of 200 riders, and also was selected on the Queensland state team.
Flo also rode extremely well on a horse she had barely ridden, receiving 3rd overall and 6th on the second day.

Both Flo and Hattie have worked so hard to hone their riding skills, and we are super proud of them.
REBOOT – Emotional Regulation Program – Let’s skill our students!
We have been implementing the Reboot program school-wide, with a focus on embedding the Reboot language in our classrooms. Our students have engaged in conversations about the 'Learning Quadrant' (picture attached) which normalises the fact that learning can be tricky and gives classes strategies to move across ‘the line of opportunity’ and into learning successfully. There have been great discussions where staff have shared, with students, times that they have been in the 'survival' or 'trying' zone and acknowledgments that making mistakes is a normal part of the learning process.
Year 5 and 6 students have worked as cohorts to learn about Reboot's '3 brains' and strategies to 'feed' their brains. Staff and students have completed a helpful survey to learn if any of their three brains may need more attention to feel regulated - the survey asked students to answer questions such as:
Do I know which staff member to speak to if I need help at school?
Do I feel challenged at school but not stressed?
Students have also discussed and chosen individual tools that will help them if they need to regulate and understand the importance of having a tool box of strategies that help them.
Other classrooms are also focusing on individual skilling needs for example:
- 4A are using a 'check-in' visual each day ( Reboot's faces) to see how they are feeling and are learning to choose associated strategies that can help them feel calm and ready to learn
- 2D are learning about each emotion and how it feels in their bodies.
We will continue to share as our students learn more about their brains, regulation techniques and strategies to support themselves when learning is challenging and in social situations, if they need to regulate their emotions or solve conflicts. We are excited to see if our students can share their learning with you at home?

Library News
Welcome back for Term 4. I hope everyone had a chance to do some reading over the break – I can’t wait to hear about any new and amazing books that students have read during the holidays. Remember that students are welcome to make suggestions or requests for book titles to be added to our Library collection. Students in Year 4, 5, and 6 also have access to the Education Queensland digital library (using Sora on the iPads) which they to use during breaks to read additional books, graphic novels, and audio books.
Maker Space
This week we are celebrating all things Bluey in the maker space. Students are able to create Bluey grannies or learn how to draw blue following step by step instructions. There is also an opportunity for students to create their own Bob Bilby digital scrapbook page – we would love to print these pages and create a collaborative scrapbook for students to read. Some students have tried using the iPads to create a Bluey stop-motion animation. A selection of the school’s Bluey books are on display for students to read during the breaks.
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson.
Book Club
Book Club for Term 4 is currently open for ordering. This will be the final opportunity to order from Book Club in 2024. Brochures will be distributed to students in the coming days. Families are welcome to view the latest issue of Book Club on line.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to their class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop, or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Alternatively, named order forms with payment can be handed in at the school office. All orders placed through Book Club help to earn free reading books for the school library.
