Dear Families and Friends
Welcome back to Term 2. We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break. The children all seemed very excited to be back and had lots of great stories to tell about their holidays and Easter adventures.
Our teachers have been working hard to prepare rich and engaging learning environments for their students. This has set the scene for a great Term 2. Term 2 is always such a rewarding term as the students are settled into their new environments, the teachers have had a chance to work in their new teams and students and staff are clear about our curriculum and pedagogical choices matched to the learning needs of our students. This term parents will receive report cards for their children. These will be distributed electronically, on the last day of the term.
A reminder that the teachers will be emailing you all with a Welcome Back email and attached will be the Term 2 Curriculum Overview. This overview will summarise the learning that will be taking place in each curriculum area for the term.
Some important reminders about ANZAC Day events.
*Monday 24th April - our school Anzac Day service starts at 9am. All parents are welcome to attend.
*Tuesday 25th April - Anzac Day (Public Holiday). We will be walking as a school to the Community service. We would invite all students to march with our school. We are meeting at 9:15am at the Dayboro Pub and will walk to the showgrounds together. The Community service starts at 10am. Our Band and Choir, as well as our School Leaders are all participating in the service. We look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible walking with us and attending the service. Formal uniform and school hats will need to be worn please.
Our Easter Hat Parade and walk through town was such a wonderful event for our Prep- Yr 3 students. We finished with a mini Easter themed concert before our big walk back to school.
Flashback photos below. Even Sgt Ken and his bunny helpers walked with us.

PBL UPDATE! Awards at Dayboro.
A reminder that each week we give a Principal’s Award to a student who displays consistent and reliable efforts in living our school values of being Safe, Responsible and a Learner every day and in every way! The children who receive this award each week are invited at the end of each term to a Principal’s Morning Tea held in Week 10 of each term.
Principal’s Morning Tea Term 1

Also, those students who receive our special Golden Gotchas get a special certificate and go into the draw to receive the Sheriff’s Award also given out at the end of each term. This is a prize voucher and certificate presented by Sgt Ken on Assembly, also in Week 10, of each term and recognises those students who go above and beyond, to demonstrate excellent citizenship at our school
Safety in our car parks
A message from the bus companies- unfortunately we still have parents dropping off and picking up in our bus turnaround. This area is strictly only for buses before and after school. We want to keep ALL our students safe – the students who catch buses as well as the students getting collected by parents, grandparents etc. So keeping this bus lane free, will ensure all students can enter and exit safely.
Celebrating Student Success
A huge congratulations to Lily, a Yr 5 student, who headed to Warwick Glennie School in the holidays and competed in the Primary Class Dressage where she had to complete two dressage tests over the day. She ended up winning both her individual test and was the Primary Champion and managed some qualifiers in the lead up to the state championships. We are so proud of you Lily and wish you all the best at your next competition.

Welcome back to Term 2 everyone!
Lots of exciting events going on in Dayboro this term. Planning for the Mother’s Day stall and Dayboro Day are underway, Book Fair starts next Friday, Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival and two P&C Meetings this term. Lots of exciting events to get involved in.
We will be keeping you all up to date through the newletters and social media. Did you know that we have a Facebook page? Check us out ‘Dayboro State School P&C Association’. This is where we post information about upcoming events and volunteer registers, tuckshop, Book Club and any other exciting events happening around the school.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Easter Raffle, whether you were able to sell some tickets or make some donations, or both, it was greatly appreciated. The raffle was a huge success, our community raised just over $5600! Amazing!
Expressions of interest - Book Club Coordinator
Do you have a love of books? Do you have a few hours per term that you could spare?
Our Book Club Coordinator helps to coordinate the distribution of the Book Club catalogue, collect any manual orders from the office and liaise with Katrina Wilkinson in the library. It only takes a few hours per term and can be very flexible with time commitments. If you think this is something you could take on please reach out to president@dayboropandc.org.au or touch base with the office.
Expressions of interest – Book Fair Volunteers
The ever popular Book Fair is starting next Friday 28th April.
Mrs Wilkinson would love some help before and after school to assist students with their selection and purchases.
I have done up a volunteer register for anyone who may be able to jump in and help out for an hour before or after school. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by the library team.
If you have a little one that would be happily entertained with some building blocks, reading a book or one of the library ipads, please feel free to bring them along.
Mother’s Day Stall – Friday 12th May
Our Mother’s Day stall is being held in Week 4 on Friday 12th May.
We have been busy creating some special gift packs that will be available to purchase on the day, as well as lots of other items that the students can choose from.
If you have some time during the day we’d love to have some helpers. Students take great care and time selecting that special gift for loved ones and counting their money, and can sometimes need some gentle guidance from us.
Please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more information and some sneak peaks at our gift packs in the coming week.
Tuckshop
Did you miss us? Tuckshop is back!
To help ensure that our Tuckshop always has enough volunteers we would like to put together a list of people who may not be able to commit to volunteering regularly, but would be happy to get a call last minute on the off chance they can help. Perhaps a retired family member? Someone who works part time? Please contact Alison at tuckshop@dayboropandc.org.au or call on 3425 6111 if you know someone who may be able to help.
Next P&C Meeting – Monday 8th May – 6.30pm @ Dayboro State School admin building
We’d love to have as many representatives as possible come along to our next P&C meeting. We will have a face to face, as well as an online option for everyone. We will provide a link to the meeting closer to the day if you would like to join via Teams. Please contact Johanna at secretary@dayboropandc.org.au if you would like to attend.
Thank you to everyone for all your support last term and I look forward to an exciting Term 2 ahead.

Library
Welcome back for Term 2! Term 2 is always a very busy time for the Library with many activities and initiatives that encourage students to participate in regular reading. We look forward to students participating in many of these reading activities.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The 2023 Premiers Reading Challenge reading period begin on the 8th of May. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 2 need to read or experience 20 books, students in Year 3 and Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books (this number of books acknowledges that older students are more likely to select longer and more complex books).
Students will be given more information about participation in the Premier’s Reading Challenge during their Library time.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Students in all year levels are welcome to join in with the 23rd annual National Simultaneous Storytime event on the 24th of May during first break from 11.00 a.m. After listening to this year’s book, “The Speedy Sloth”, students are welcome to stay for the remainder of first break and join in with our celebration activities.
May is National Family Reading Month
This year is the 27th year of National Family Reading Month which celebrates and encourages families reading together. Why not take the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge? To participate in the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge simply read for a minimum of 10 minutes each day and mark the day’s reading on the record chart. The reading record chart is available from the Library and is also included below. Students who return their completed reading chart will receive a certificate of participation.
Book Fair
Book Fair begins next Friday!
Book Fair is set to begin on April 28th and will run until May 10th.
Keep an eye out for further information coming home next week. Families are welcome to preview some of the exciting books that will be available at Book Fair online.

Dayboro State School (Mon-Tues)
Hello everyone!
I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break. I got to hang out with some of the Dayboro kids at the Moreton Bay Sports Camp in the first week of the holidays. We had so much fun! It was pretty much 3 days of non-stop sport and games. Some highlights were learning basketball from the Moreton Bay Suns, learning hip hop from a professional dancer and a rugby league skills session lead by the Dayboro Cowboys! Shoutout to parent and Cowboys secretary Alex Scaroni who helped to organise this. I’m already looking forward to next year.

The Dayboro sports camp crew
Rock and Water
Starts again in week 2. Some Year 2 students will also be participating in the program this term. Please return your permission slips as soon as you can. We will continue our work using games to help students increase their body awareness and practice self-regulation.
SUPA Club
Starts up again next Friday afternoon, 28 April. See the flyer below for details. Looking forward to seeing everyone! Please note that permission slips need to be returned before students attend. You can get one of these from the office or from myself.
Movie Night
The Dayboro Lions recently put on their movie night with funds raised going to chaplaincy here at school. A big thank you to the parents and students who came to help out with the sausage sizzle and snow cones. Also a big thank you to the Lions and Mrs Costelloe for their support.
Another big thankyou to everyone who came along to or helped out at the breakfast celebration on the last day of Term 1. You guys rock! The coffee cart organised by parent Johanna Sheehan and her family was amazing, wasn’t it? So good!
I always so encouraged by the amazing generosity and community spirit I have experienced here. I couldn’t do it without my wonderful helpers. Keep it up, Dayboro!!
Lunch clubs
Lunch clubs are back on this term. I am quite excited about a new one – the Year 6 girls painting club! Check out these photos from our first meeting last term. One of our students, Bronte Hambridge, lead the group in painting these landscapes. She did a great job! I’m looking forward to learning lots from this group of creative kids.

If you have any questions or need support in any way, I have lots of practical resources available. Please feel free contact me at:

A message from council:
Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit undertakes a School Parking Patrol Program where officers complete scheduled school patrols, both in the morning and afternoon, to ensure that vehicles are parked in a safe and lawful manner. The primary aim of the program is to ensure that students and family members/caregivers are able to safely move around the school area as part of dropping off or picking up students from the school.
The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2011 and Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1999 control parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, marked yellow lines, shared paths, dividing strips and nature strips, along with vehicles parking across residents driveways and within ‘No Stopping’, ‘No Parking’, and ‘Bus Zones’ and Pick-up / Drop -off zones. Council is legally required to enforce these areas and the School Parking Patrol Program forms part of this process. Drivers are reminded that footpaths and nature strips are in place to promote pedestrian movement in a safe manner along roadsides and that drivers and residents must not stop on a bicycle path, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip. Please also note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels up and two wheels down is not considered as a lawful parking practice.
Local Laws officers conduct enforcement through the issuance of Penalty Infringement Notices as part of each School Parking Patrol. Please be aware that Council officers may take photographic evidence of vehicles stopping or parking illegally with Penalty Infringement Notices to be issued via mail at a later date to the offending vehicle’s owner.
Visit www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/parking for further guidance on parking restrictions.
For any further information, members of the School community are welcome to contact Moreton Bay Regional Council on 3205 0555.
