Swimming, Swimming, Swimming!
It was wonderful to see the students’ participation at our recent swimming carnivals. Encouraging our students to learn safe swimming techniques is super important as a lifelong skill and we take this very seriously. Thank you to the Dayboro Pool for being our partners and their careful tutelage of our students this year!

Our swimming carnivals of course would not happen without the amazing organisation of our staff. A huge thanks to Mr D for the Junior Carnival and Mrs Cassell for the Senior Carnival organisation!!! Our staff are mindful of every student having a chance to participate and work hard to ensure that this occurs.
Student Leaders
Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Year 5 students, who have nominated to be a student leader for 2023, as they spoke to our Dayboro student community. It was so evident to see how proud our students are of their school and what they felt made Dayboro great – our school rules of Safety, Respect and Learning and our school values: Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Tolerant, Be Respectful, Be Proud and Be Positive.
Some of the students spoke about the impact their friends, teachers and parents have had on their learning and wellbeing, others gave examples of what makes our school so great – friendly students, the great learning environment and the supportive staff. What was affirming was how confident our students were to stand up and speak before their peers about what a great school and community they belong to.
This week we look forward to the final panel for School Captains and the finalisation of the selection and voting of the Band, Choir, Sports Captains and Indigenous Ambassadors. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the senior students involved.
Next week we will farewell our fabulous Year 6 2022 cohort. While it will be with mixed emotions, I know that our students are well equipped and thoroughly prepared for their next step in education! This Year 6 cohort has worked hard throughout 2022 to lead our students, make the most of every opportunity and participate in everything Dayboro SS had to offer.
Congratulations to our class of 2022!!!
Lego League Success
We are very proud of the Dayboro Dominators and their achievements at the First Lego League National Championship North competition on the weekend. Their commitment and teamwork was evident and they placed overall in a tie for 7th on the robot game (out of 43 teams). Well done Brody, Tilly, Hailey, Ethan and David!

Thank you all for everything you do for our students. Your care and support do make a difference and don’t go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated.
While Dayboro students continued to shine academically this year and excelled in a range of extra-curricular pursuits, what continues to define our students is their excellent commitment to the values and behaviour codes of our school. The support of parents is also highly important in ensuring our expectations around being safe, respectful and learners are constantly upheld. Hi Everyone
Lost Property
This is just a quick note to remind everyone that we have got a few unnamed jumpers/School jackets and LOTS of goggles (2 from yesterdays senior carnival and most from Junior swimming) in the office. We have tried many times to make announcements and get students to come and check for lost things. If you are missing something, please come and have a look. At the end of the year we will be taking everything we have left here to lifeline.
Medication
Remember to pick up your Child's medication from the office before the end of school. We cannot keep medication here over the holidays into the new year.
New medical consent forms will need to be filled out at the beginning of next year. All medication (even that purchased over the counter, has to have a Doctors label with the Drs name and the child's name on it).
Finance
Could you please make sure that all your student accounts are completed. If you are unsure if you have anything outstanding you can call the office and Jill or Kay can look up individual student accounts.
Thank you
Kylie, Jill and Kay
Library Borrowing
A reminder that borrowing for 2022 has now finished and all loans need to be returned as soon as possible. Notes and invoices for missing books will be sent home this week.
Summer Reading Club 2022
The Summer Reading Club is set to begin on the 1st of December. The goal of this initiative is to keep children reading and engaged with stories throughout the summer holiday break. Participants can register to join in with a range of activities facilitated by the State Library of Queensland. Students will need to ask parents/carers for permission before registering.
Join in with the Summer Reading Club through Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. Reading competitions and prizes are available through the Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. Keep an eye out for displays and activities in the libraries, art galleries and museums across the region during the holiday break.
The Summer Reading Club challenge sheet (pictured below) is available for collection from the Library. Students who return completed challenge sheets after the holiday break are welcome to come and collect an incentive prize from the Library in recognition of their participation.
Maker Space
Students have been busy constructing a range a of inventions – from animal homes to robot cars!
Students will have the opportunity to create and construct ornaments and decorations over the next two weeks. We have been very fortunate to have received a donation of Christmas craft items from one of our school families which has increased the craft opportunities for our students this year – thank you so much!
Robotics Competition
Our First Lego League team, the Dayboro Dominators, participated in the FLL Nationals Competition at Rothwell on Sunday. It was a very busy day with judging of their innovation project as well as multiple robot table games. The team competed against 43 other teams, with students ranging in age from 9 to 18. It was fantastic opportunity to meet other students with an interest in robotics and to see (and ask) about their innovation projects as part of the “Super Powered” challenge.
Well done to the students who have continued to develop their ideas and refine their coding and robotic elements for the challenge.
Yesterday was also the final afternoon of our after school robotics club for 2022. All of the participants have worked hard to improve their robot building and coding skills to achieve set goals throughout the semester. We finished off our last session with our own scaled down FLL competition – each team had two and a half minutes to score as many points as they could on the challenge mat.
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson.
We are now taking bookings for Vacation Care. Please feel free to contact Jess the Coordinator to help you with the booking process.
Children have enjoyed playing a variety of board games and make believe games over the past fortnight. We have had an increase in children engaging in our Brekkie Bunch of a morning. Different breakfast items have been available as well as cooking experiences. We are always looking for feedback from parents at the service and parents who haven’t yet enrolled regarding the service and how we can best accommodate parents and children. We are now accepting bookings for Vacation Care and for Before and After School Care for next year. This includes 2023 Preps (they can attend from the start of next year for all care types). Mr Riley has now finished up with us and we have Miss Lily and Miss Amy helping until we have our next superstar Educator.
A massive shout out to Dayboro Produce for donating plants for our gardening club. Our trainee gardeners are quite excited to watch their produce grow!
Also, a big thank you to the Dayboro Mens Shed for fixing and repainting our tables. Everything is looking amazing.

A reminder to confirm your bookings are correct via the iparent portal. We also have some lost property still in the black bucket outside the service, so please encourage your child/ren to check this regularly (there are drink bottles, jumpers and hats with no names).
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Alternatively, please send the service a text message on the mobile number below. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Need a helping hand before or after school?
Enrolling your child/ren is easy and there are no enrolment fees. Visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au , click 'How to enrol’ on the right-hand side of the page, and follow the steps. When this is submitted, we will be in touch as soon as possible to support the finalisation of your enrolment and initial bookings. If you have any issues, please contact Jess at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts team on 1300 612 462.
