The Summer Reading Club is set to begin on the 1st of December.  The goal of this initiative is to keep children reading and engaged with stories throughout the summer holiday break.  Participants can register to join in with a range of activities facilitated by the State Library of Queensland.  Students will need to ask parents/carers for permission before registering.

Join in with the Summer Reading Club through Moreton Bay Regional Libraries.  Reading competitions and prizes are available through the Moreton Bay Regional Libraries.  Keep an eye out for displays and activities in the libraries, art galleries and museums across the region during the holiday break.

The Summer Reading Club challenge sheet (pictured below) is available for collection from the Library.  Students who return completed challenge sheets after the holiday break are welcome to come and collect an incentive prize from the Library in recognition of their participation.

Maker Space

Students have been busy constructing a range a of inventions – from animal homes to robot cars!

Students will have the opportunity to create and construct ornaments and decorations over the next two weeks.  We have been very fortunate to have received a donation of Christmas craft items from one of our school families which has increased the craft opportunities for our students this year – thank you so much!

Robotics Competition

Our First Lego League team, the Dayboro Dominators, participated in the FLL Nationals Competition at Rothwell on Sunday.  It was a very busy day with judging of their innovation project as well as multiple robot table games.  The team competed against 43 other teams, with students ranging in age from 9 to 18.  It was fantastic opportunity to meet other students with an interest in robotics and to see (and ask) about their innovation projects as part of the “Super Powered” challenge.

Well done to the students who have continued to develop their ideas and refine their coding and robotic elements for the challenge.

Yesterday was also the final afternoon of our after school robotics club for 2022.  All of the participants have worked hard to improve their robot building and coding skills to achieve set goals throughout the semester.  We finished off our last session with our own scaled down FLL competition – each team had two and a half minutes to score as many points as they could on the challenge mat.
