It has been wonderful seeing the learning both inside and outside our classrooms over the past two weeks! Our students are thriving and learning to ask more about their learning and how they can be successful! Have a look at some of our students learning…

Remembrance Day
On Friday four of our Year 5 students represented Dayboro State School at the Dayboro War Memorial Remembrance Day service. These students did an amazing job reciting the poems, ‘In Flanders Fields’, ‘The Ode’ and ‘Remembrance’. It was wonderful to be a part of this special community commemoration and for our students to understand the significance of our Australian troops sacrifice.

Consent Management – 2023 online plans
From 2023, we will be able to offer parents online consent forms for excursions, incursions and consents (internet, third party etc). We anticipate that this will make the consent form process much easier for families who often have to juggle several permissions sometimes for multiple students at our school. This Consent Management facility will need to be accessed by parents through QParents - you will see a consent icon once we commence using this process.
Therefore, it will be important for parents to access QParents. I attach a fact sheet for your information about QParents. QParents is currently used by some of our families to:
- Provide information about and access attendance details
- Access report cards and assessments
- Pay invoices and access payment history.
We have previously sent out invitations to our families to join QParents via email. We will send another round of invitations in the next week for our Prep- Year 5 students. Once a you receive an invitation from the school you just go to the QParents website to register or use the QParents app (available from either the Apple app Store or Google app Store, depending on your phone/device).
Our Department of Education also has a QParents Overview video on YouTube which may assist you in understanding the use of QParents:
We are excited to be able to streamline our consent process for families and also our administration team. Please consider registering for your family. I will certainly be in contact with you as we transition to this type of consent management.
P&C Meeting
Thank you to our hardworking P&C for all of their efforts this year. Recently they ran the stall at the Dayboro Music in the Park event. Their efforts with the various functions and stalls, running the tuckshop and the uniform shop have certainly serviced our community well and they continue to provide lots of support to our students and families. At this week’s meeting we discussed the various donations to the school to provide quality programs and learning environment for our students. We thank to P&C for contributing to:
- Swimming lesson program for Prep-Year 4 children
- The Family Dance night
- Purchasing a full set of Rugby League jerseys
- The purchase of trophies, medals and ribbons for our various events
- Year 6 graduation expenses
- Removing the cricket pitch and surfacing that section of our oval
- The new flag poles at our school entrance
They also have plans to donate towards:
- End of year breakup ice blocks
- Tuckshop needs
- Students who participate at a high level in sport
- Technology supports for students
We have a few Year 6 parents who have contributed an amazing amount to our P&C over their years at Dayboro SS and also many, many hours volunteering in the tuckshop, at stalls and family dance nights etc. To those families, I would like to personally say THANK YOU! We couldn’t do it without you and we know that you have supports our children to be successful!
Joining the P&C is a great way to contribute to our school and help make a difference to our students! I encourage parents to have a think about joining us on one of our Teams meetings in 2023.

Student Leadership Opportunities
Our 2022 student leaders have done an amazing job this year. They work hard behind the scenes to support our students. Our current school captains and sports captains have done an amazing job of explaining to the students the benefits of leadership but also the level of responsibility and commitment required. Thank you to all of our 2022 captains and vice captains.
The 2023 student leadership process is well underway. Year 5 students have nominated for positions and our Year 4 students are currently considering their options for nominations for Vice Sports Captains.
On Monday, we will listen to our Year 5 Captain nominees, vote and shortlist candidates and then on Wednesday, our elections will take place for Sports and Vice Captains. Thank you to our panel members, Mr Horne, Mrs Cassell and Mrs Rhiannon Fealy, our P&C President who will join me to shortlist and interview our candidates. We look forward o working with the students. We will announce all of our 2023 leadership positions at our final assembly on Thursday 9 December.
Our 2023 Leadership process is attached below.

Planning for 2023
We are currently trying to plan effectively for new enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2023 school year. Please ensure that you contact our school administration team if your child/ren are not returning to Dayboro SS in 2023. Thank you for your support.
Have a great week!

Dear Families and Friends
TRANSITIONS
At this busy time of year, we can often forget that for many of our students and families it is a time of anticipation and sometimes anxiety about preparing for next year. The Yr 6 students will be leaving for high school and for many, saying goodbye to old friends and teachers and getting ready for completely different routines can be a daunting experience. We try to help this transition by connecting with our local high schools throughout the year and the students begin visiting and getting to know the staff. They also send Yr 7 coordinators to our school to get to know the students and their needs better. We would welcome any feedback from parents with suggestions on how we could improve this process for families, especially first time high school families.
Preparing for Prep is also a big step for families of children starting Prep in 2023. Establishing routines and providing positive experiences are important ways of supporting your child. Check out our Starting School podcast for more practical tips
YEAR 5 Bray Park High Visit
Every year Bray Park High invite all our Yr 5 students to attend a STEM day. Our students are involved in a range of fun and educational activities that are usually unique to the high school setting such as woodworking, science experiments in a Science Lab and moving around to different teachers for each area. We thank Bray Park for valuing the importance of getting to know our students and for providing this day of fun for our learners. The feedback was that our students were highly engaged and represented Dayboro in an admirable way!! Well done students.

Now that the days are starting to get warmer please remember that it is an expectation that all children wear hats during play times and PE lessons. The rule is “No Hat, no Play!” Please remember to name your child’s hat as it makes it much easier to return lost hats to their owners.
Children that do not wear hats are expected to be in the CSA areas during break times.

Library News
We have received a very generous donation of children’s picture books from one of our school families. Thank you very much – we have some very excited students who are ready to borrow and enjoy these books.
Library Borrowing
We are quickly approaching the end of the 2022 school year and Week 7 will be the final week for student borrowing. All Library books will need to be returned to the Library by the 30th of November. Some students have indicated that they are unable to find books they currently have on loan – we suggest looking for misplaced books on book cases at home (or in classrooms), in toy boxes, under beds, or in the family car. Books can turn up in some very strange places. ?
Notes for missing books will be sent home in Week 9.
Summer Reading Club 2022
The Summer Reading Club is set to begin on the 1st of December! The Summer Reading Club is facilitated through the State Library of Queensland and is also promoted through the Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. The goal of this initiate is to keep children reading and engaged with stories throughout the Summer holiday break. More information can be found on the State Library of Queensland’s website.
Summer Reading Club challenge sheets are available in the Library for students who are interested in participating. Students who complete all of the reading challenges and return their signed challenge form in the new year will receive a prize.
Maker Space
Students continued to work on a variety of robotics and crafting tasks during breaks. A very big “Thank you” to all of our older students who have been working so well with our Prep students to show them how to use the resources and for making the Preps feel so welcome when they come up to visit us on Wednesday during first break.
Robotics Competition
The Dayboro Dominators have continued to spend time during lunch breaks and after school on Mondays to prepare for their upcoming competition. We wish them every success for their next round of First LEGO League to be held at Rothwell on the 27th of November.
Have a great week!
Mrs Wilkinson.

Hello wonderful Dayboro State School parents, guardians and friends!
How is everyone going as we edge closer to the summer holidays? I hope you are taking time to rest in amongst what can be an extremely busy time of year. I know I’m having to remind myself to invest in some self-care at times! It can be tempting to feel like we always have to be busy or productive, but it’s from that place of rest that we are able to be the most productive in the long run.
A couple of weeks ago we had our junior and senior Dayboro’s Got Talent showcases. Thanks to all of the students and parents who came along to support the children who performed. They worked very hard over a whole term to put together their acts. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next year. Thank you to all of the students who participated, Miss Delisser, Mrs Robbo, Miss Tash, Mrs Costelloe and Mrs Tavelardis who put so much time and effort into putting the show on. You are all rock stars!
Our senior group finally got to start their Rock and Water journey. It was cool for me to see students using the grounding, centring, focusing and low breath techniques we have learned in R&W to help them to be successful in challenges at Year 6 camp. Our junior group did a lesson on “standing strong” under pressure. This is the positive characteristics of “rock” that is so helpful in life. We need to stand strong in who we are in many different situations – for example, not giving in to peer pressure to do something you may not be comfortable with. Thanks so much to Mrs T and Miss Annie for running the junior group lesson while I was away last week.
I had a great time at Coolum with the Year 6 students on camp. I think every student in my group not only went on the zip line but flipped upside down while doing so!! They are a great cohort and their teachers have done a wonderful job preparing them for high school. I am certainly going to miss them next year but I am proud of them as they take the next big step in their lives. Another highlight of camp was seeing sea turtles catching waves near the rocks off the headland at Point Arkwright.
It was pretty gnarly, dude! (haha).
We are having a break up party for SUPA club on 25/11. Johnny’s pizza will be had and many fun games played. Let me know if you would like your child to come along – send me an email.
Finally, I am here to support students, staff and parents in the Dayboro State School community. If you have a need, are going through something difficult or simply need someone to talk to, my door is always open. I have lots of resources and support I can offer.. I currently have Christmas Hampers for 2022 and school stationary help available through Stationary Aid. If this would be beneficial for you or if you know of a family it could help, please send me an email. Have a great fortnight!

Art and Craft have been a huge hit for the children at Helping Hands over the past few weeks. We are also very excited to have our new sports equipment to use. The sports equipment has been a big part of our after school program with children playing a variety of games such as master, basketball, handball and kicking games. Coming up this week we have more cooking experiences and a range of sports games. We will also be incorporating playdough into this week and next week as cloud dough with Miss Cushla was a major success with almost all children getting involved in the process. We have some sad news, next week is Mr Riley’s last week with us! Thank you for everything that you have brought to the service, we hope that you have a great time at your new job.

A reminder to confirm your bookings are correct via the iparent portal. We also have some lost property still in the black bucket outside the service, so please encourage your child/ren to check this regularly (there are drink bottles, jumpers and hats with no names).
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Alternatively, please send the service a text message on the mobile number below. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Need a helping hand before or after school?
