Principal's News

It has been wonderful seeing the learning both inside and outside our classrooms over the past two weeks! Our students are thriving and learning to ask more about their learning and how they can be successful! Have a look at some of our students learning…

Remembrance Day

On Friday four of our Year 5 students represented Dayboro State School at the Dayboro War Memorial Remembrance Day service. These students did an amazing job reciting the poems, ‘In Flanders Fields’, ‘The Ode’ and ‘Remembrance’. It was wonderful to be a part of this special community commemoration and for our students to understand the significance of our Australian troops sacrifice.

Consent Management – 2023 online plans

From 2023, we will be able to offer parents online consent forms for excursions, incursions and consents (internet, third party etc). We anticipate that this will make the consent form process much easier for families who often have to juggle several permissions sometimes for multiple students at our school. This Consent Management facility will need to be accessed by parents through QParents - you will see a consent icon once we commence using this process.

Therefore, it will be important for parents to access QParents. I attach a fact sheet for your information about QParents. QParents is currently used by some of our families to:

  • Provide information about and access attendance details
  • Access report cards and assessments
  • Pay invoices and access payment history.

We have previously sent out invitations to our families to join QParents via email. We will send another round of invitations in the next week for our Prep- Year 5 students. Once a you receive an invitation from the school you just go to the QParents website to register or use the QParents app (available from either the Apple app Store or Google app Store, depending on your phone/device).

Our Department of Education also has a QParents Overview video on YouTube which may assist you in understanding the use of QParents:

We are excited to be able to streamline our consent process for families and also our administration team. Please consider registering for your family. I will certainly be in contact with you as we transition to this type of consent management.

P&C Meeting

Thank you to our hardworking P&C for all of their efforts this year. Recently they ran the stall at the Dayboro Music in the Park event. Their efforts with the various functions and stalls, running the tuckshop and the uniform shop have certainly serviced our community well and they continue to provide lots of support to our students and families. At this week’s meeting we discussed the various donations to the school to provide quality programs and learning environment for our students. We thank to P&C for contributing to:

  • Swimming lesson program for Prep-Year 4 children
  • The Family Dance night
  • Purchasing a full set of Rugby League jerseys
  • The purchase of trophies, medals and ribbons for our various events
  • Year 6 graduation expenses
  • Removing the cricket pitch and surfacing that section of our oval
  • The new flag poles at our school entrance

They also have plans to donate towards:

  • End of year breakup ice blocks
  • Tuckshop needs
  • Students who participate at a high level in sport
  • Technology supports for students

We have a few Year 6 parents who have contributed an amazing amount to our P&C over their years at Dayboro SS and also many, many hours volunteering in the tuckshop, at stalls and family dance nights etc. To those families, I would like to personally say THANK YOU! We couldn’t do it without you and we know that you have supports our children to be successful!
Joining the P&C is a great way to contribute to our school and help make a difference to our students! I encourage parents to have a think about joining us on one of our Teams meetings in 2023.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Our 2022 student leaders have done an amazing job this year. They work hard behind the scenes to support our students. Our current school captains and sports captains have done an amazing job of explaining to the students the benefits of leadership but also the level of responsibility and commitment required. Thank you to all of our 2022 captains and vice captains.

The 2023 student leadership process is well underway. Year 5 students have nominated for positions and our Year 4 students are currently considering their options for nominations for Vice Sports Captains.
On Monday, we will listen to our Year 5 Captain nominees, vote and shortlist candidates and then on Wednesday, our elections will take place for Sports and Vice Captains. Thank you to our panel members, Mr Horne, Mrs Cassell and Mrs Rhiannon Fealy, our P&C President who will join me to shortlist and interview our candidates. We look forward o working with the students. We will announce all of our 2023 leadership positions at our final assembly on Thursday 9 December.

Our 2023 Leadership process is attached below.

Dayboro Student Success!

This week Emily, year 5, will be competing in the 10-12yr old Track and Field National Championships, as part of the Queensland team! Emily has competed this year at a district level, then was selected for Met North team to compete at States and now has progressed to the national competition. Emily will compete individually and as part of the Queensland relay teams. We wish Emily the best of luck on Sunday and Monday at the competition! Go Dayboro!!

We are very excited to have been informed that Teyah in year 3 has placed first in the year 3 category of the Peter Dutton’s annual Christmas Card Design Competition.

Teyah’s winning design will be featured with the three other category year group winners on the front of the Mr Dutton’s Christmas Card which is sent to thousands of people, community groups and businesses in our local community.

Placing first, Teyah won a pizza party for her class which happened today! She was also presented with a certificate and prize. Congratulations Teyah!
