Parent Teacher Conferences - Book in from Wednesday!
We really value Parent Teacher Conferences as a way to touch base with parents and carers about their child’s learning! It’s a great way to see where your child is up to with their learning, view their work samples and plan with your child’s teacher about their next steps.
The SOB’s booking system will open this Wednesday morning, 25 August, at 8am. Some of our teachers are on leave at the end of term 4 or attending camp. These teachers will open their conference times for the next two weeks, allowing enough timeslots for parents. Please follow the link: https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70654, allowing you to book for all of your children by just selecting the Class Teacher. Please note that we will close SOB’s on Friday 3 September at 3pm, you will NEED to book your conference before this date. This means that teachers can prepare their interview schedule.
If you have any difficulties booking in through the SOB’s program, please contact your child’s teacher or email admin@dayboross.eq.edu.au. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you!
Gala Day Friday!
We are excited to offer two Gala Day opportunities at Dayboro SS, each year, for our Year 5 and 6 students to participate as part of a team sport. Playing a team sport is a great way to continue learning participation, cooperation and school spirit! We do expect full participation, from our Year 5 and 6 students. This week Dayboro SS students will participate in one of the following sports:
- Tee Ball
- Netball
- League Tag
Good luck to all of our teams!!!
Junior Sports Day
Our postponed Junior Sports Day is now scheduled for Friday 17 September. We look forward to providing our little ones with a non-competitive, games environment that encourages maximum participation. Thank you to our Junior parents for supporting this and focussing on having fun and having a go!!
The program (attached below) will includes the running races where students will run in their classes, allowing them to run with their friends. Each child will receive an ‘I ran a race’ ribbon. The emphasis again is on participation.
We look forward to a fun event!
Have a great week!

Dear Families and Friends
Well, it is getting closer to the end of term and the last few weeks are looking busier than ever. Parent Interviews will be starting in Week 8, 9 and 10! Please take advantage of this valuable opportunity and organise a time to speak (face to face or via phone) with your child’s class teacher. You can make a time through the SOBS booking online system and details have been provided above.
Just a reminder also that over the last few weeks of this term, teachers will again be involved in curriculum planning in their Professional Learning Teams. Please be aware that there may be different teachers on your child’s classes in Weeks 7,9 and 10, (on Thursdays mainly) while teachers are released off class to collaboratively plan and moderate with their Year Level teams.
Also, please look out for Swimming Notes being sent out this week for Prep-Yr 2 (2/3J included) classes. Swimming starts next term in Week 2 of the term for these Year Levels.
As we head closer to the holidays, it is important to remember to remind children to keep focused on their work at school and at home.
Homework, especially reading homework, is an important part of being prepared for learning and revising concepts taught in class, at home, helps children at school. I would encourage all children to be reading or read to every night!
WRITING AT DAYBORO.
At Dayboro we value creative, authentic and engaging writing for a purpose. Our goal for 2021 has been to lift the engagement of our students in writing in all its’ forms and to celebrate successes in writing. Our teachers work hard to embed the teaching of high quality writing practices in their classrooms. Teachers meet regularly to discuss and share writing samples of students and it is pleasing to see our students working so diligently on their writing goals and becoming better writers! Our Writing Competition “Other Worlds” has now closed and the winners for each Year level will be announced on Assembly in Week 8. Thank you to Helping Hands for supporting this important initiative and supplying the gift vouchers to our winning writers.
You can also help at home by trying a few of the suggestions below:
Best ways to support writing at home
- Provide a place for your child to write. ...
- Read, read, read! ...
- Encourage your child to keep a reflective journal. ...
- Provide authentic writingopportunities for your child. ...
- Be a writingrole model. ...
- Start a vocabulary notebook. ...
- Ask questions. ...
- Help your child publish her writing.
Parent Teacher interview bookings on our SOBS online booking system will be opening soon. You will receive an email with the link from your class teacher. Please look out for these. The interviews will begin in Week 8 and continue until the end of this term. Please make a time to speak with the teacher via phone or face to face. If you are visiting the classroom for the interview please remember to wear a mask when inside the classroom and outside if you can’t socially distance from others.

Thank you to all our wonderful writers from Prep to Year 6 who entered the writing competition this year. We had over 100 entries this year. It is going to be tough for our judges to decide. COVID-19 Vaccines Update
The COVID-19 vaccines are now available for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peopled aged 12 and over. COVID-19 vaccines remain our best way out of this pandemic as they can help keep you from getting really sick and needing to go to the hospital.
The vaccines are most effective when you’ve received two doses of the same vaccine within the recommended timeframe. The first dose of your vaccine will begin to build up a protective response against COVID-19 in your system. The second dose will boost your immune response to give you long-term protection against COVID-19. Without the second dose, your body will not be able to fight the virus as effectively. At your first vaccination appointment, your healthcare worker will tell you when you should book your appointment for your second dose.
COVID-19 vaccines are just one part of keeping the community safe and healthy. People and communities should all continue keeping COVIDSafe by regularly washing your hands and keeping two big steps away from others.
Learn more at the Department of Health’s COVID-19 vaccines hub and subscribe to key health updates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
COLOUR RUN
We’re holding the Crazy Colour Day as a fun fundraising event this year! The event will be held on 8 October 2021. We are really hoping to raise $10,000 which will pay to brighten up our school with fun painted murals on some of our walls!
Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which will be sent home with your child this week. Once you have the form, you should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package! If you prefer not to create an online profile, that’s okay, just return your sponsorship form and cash to the school office by 11 October 2021. Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward!
We’re looking for all students to participate and we’re organising a great day for our school community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids (pending any restrictions).
Thanks for supporting the school and we hope to see you at the event!

Maker Space
Robots have been taking over the Library! We have several classes working on robotics and coding based tasks during class time as well as our upper primary robotics club who meet after school on Mondays. Students who visit the Library during first break also have the option of using robots for different activities and challenges such as using Dash robots to compose musical pieces, and using Sphero robots to play a game of soccer.
We would also like to thank the families who have donated cardboard boxes to the maker space. These boxes are already being turned into wonderful new inventions by our creative students.

Book Club
There has been a significant delay with the delivery of the brochures for Issue 6. The brochure for this issue can be viewed on line.
Orders can be placed and payment can still be made using LOOP.
Orders are due by 3/9/2021. Apologies for the quicker than usual closing time due to the brochure delivery delay.
Well it was terribly unfortunate that the Dayboro Show was cancelled not once but twice! Our classes worked very hard on some beautiful works of art that were all installed on boards at the show grounds just prior to the show being cancelled. It was such a shame that everyone in our community did not get to see the boards but we have a few photos to display here.
Thank you to all our students who worked so hard you should all be very proud of your works of art. Thank you also to our wonderful staff who put in extra time to get them completed on time and installed at the show grounds. We even had help bringing them back from some wonderful members of our wider community. What a wonderful place we live in.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR GYMNASTICS
Amain Gym will be running 4 free gymnastics sessions for yr 3-6 in the school hall on Fridays 8:00-8:45, beginning this week. Permission slips are available at the office. Only 5 places are left. There is a mistake on the form. Gymnastics will not be running on 3/9/21 due to the pupil free day. Instead, a session will be run on Friday 8/10/21, Term 4 week 1.
TRIATHLON
This Regional School sport qualification event will be held on Saturday 23 October & Sunday 24 October 2021. An expression of interest form is on the sports noticeboard.
MET NORTH BOYS SOFTBALL
Do your boys love playing softball and would they be interested in competing in a state championship?
Metropolitan North are currently seeking expressions of interest to reinstate U12 boys softball into their program. If enough expressions of interest are received they will consider adding it to the 2022 calendar. All that is required is that you click on the link and answer a few short questions (approximately 1 min). This is not a commitment to trial, your response will just help to determine whether there is enough interest to decide if the sport will be offered or not. The link for the questionnaire can be found below, you may need to copy the URL and paste it into your web browser.

Our children recently collaborated to create a block Underwater World. They used a variety of blocks to achieve this, and ocean animals allowed the creation to be brought to life. Discussions surfaced throughout the creation and role play of this activity around marine life, ocean pollution, and what we can do to reduce pollution.
We also recently made slime. Children helped Miss Jenny mix the ingredients together and were extremely excited to mold their slime into different shapes. This was a great activity to develop fine motor skills and highlight the positive relationships developed at Helping Hands.
The Olympics may be over; however, we still have our Paralympians to cheer on. Our children have created Olympic and Paralympic posters using collected stickers from Woolworths’ latest promotion. In the coming weeks we will be participating in sit down volleyball to explore how sports are modified for the Paralympics. We will also be participating in modified netball, designed to support the development of ball skills, tactical plays and communicating as a team.
LOST PROPERTY: Unfortunately, our lost property pile has grown immensely this term, with several jumpers, hats, drink bottles and other items included. Please encourage your child/ren to check this next time they are attending and ensure that all items are named correctly so we can help return these items.
Pupil Free Day is fast approaching, and we are open from 6:30am-6:00pm. Bookings will need to be made as soon as possible via the iparent portal. A reminder that children need to be enrolled into the service before bookings can be made.
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Please see one of our educators for support if you are experiencing issues making or managing your bookings. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Looking to join in on the fun? Enrolling your child/ren is easy and there are no enrolment fees. Visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au , click Register on the top right corner, select Dayboro as your service and fill in all the details to register your iParent Portal account and enrol. When this is submitted, we will be in touch as soon as possible to support the finalisation of your enrolment and initial bookings. If you have any issues, please contact Jenny at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts on 1300 612 462.
