Dear Parents and Caregivers
This Friday we finish our very busy term. Our students are to be congratulated for the ease in which they have settled back into face-to-face learning and routines given the extended interruption that we endured to the first part of this year of learning.
As mentioned previously, report cards will be emailed home in Week 2 of Term 3 on Wednesday 22 May.
Over the weekend, I received the updated COVID- Safe Operating Guidelines for Schools. Much remains the same as Term 2, but there are a few changes, which I have highlighted below.
Changes in the COVID Safe Operating Guidelines
The latest Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) advice on reducing the potential risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools includes the following:-
- Minimising adult access to office environments- preference that contact to be made to the school by electronic means
- Camps and excursions – are allowed at venues with COVID Safe Industry Plans
- Assemblies can recommence – for students and staff as long as staff are following social distancing guidelines. No parents or visitors at present.
- Graduations are allowed at venues with COVID Safe Industry Plans in place
- Swimming pools have reopened- limited lessons, training and change room access, to prevent crossover of year levels
- Instrumental Music – can continue while following safety protocols, but there are to be no interschool or external rehearsals or performances
- School sport returns- with up to 100 people ; including students and adults
- Meetings; including staff and P&C Meetings – as long as adults observe the 1.5m physical distancing guidelines
- Visiting therapists are permitted to work with individual students after completing the COVID Safe checklist and following social distancing guidelines.
Remaining COVID Safe Operating Guidelines
The following guidelines remain in place from the previous COVID Safe Operating Guidelines for Queensland Schools:
- Minimising the use of shared spaces
- Minimising gathering points and maximising airflow
- Staggering start and end of days
- Supervision at school gates, including drop off and pick up times
- Restricting visitor and parent access to school grounds, including parent volunteers
- Parent/teacher interviews or discussions via telephone
- Regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- Regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- Increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
Student Health Concerns
If your child is unwell, it is essential that you keep them at home. In accordance with Queensland Health directives, parents or carers of any child showing signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school. Students who are sent home due to illness will need to be symptom free before returning to school.
School Attendance
We understand that some medically vulnerable students or students who live with medically vulnerable people , may continue to learn at home, and arrangements will be put in place to support these students to continue their learning.
Apart from the students above, schools are now required to monitor student attendance to ensure all students return to on-site learning. We will be following up with parents or carers to discuss reasons the students are not attending regularly and to implement supports to ensure attendance.
Physical Distancing for Adults
Physical distancing measures for adults also remains in place. It is important that parents do not gather before, after school, in the car park, at drop off and pickup time, or at the school gate. Parents are also asked to refrain from entering the school grounds, unless it is necessary to attend the school office. If you need to speak with a staff member, please contact the office on 3425 6111 to organise a phone call meeting.
Again, thank you so much for your patience, understanding and ongoing support. To date, the support of our school community has been wonderful as we navigate our way forward in this crisis.
School Opinion Survey
Thank you to everyone who have already responded to this year’s Parent Opinion Survey.
Traditionally the School Opinion Survey has occurred during term 3 for students, staff and parents. For 2020 only, the SOS has been replaced with a shorter online pulse survey that will take place over the next few weeks. The pulse survey will provide an opportunity for reflection on schools’ and the department’s response to COVID-19 and an opportunity for us to reflect and provide feedback to the system to inform future policy.
Again there will be three surveys- staff, students and parents – each of which will have its own individual link. All responses, as usual, are confidential. The survey has been designed for easy completion on a smartphone and can be completed in less than 5 minutes.
The link for completing our Parent Opinion Survey is below:-
I would like to thank everyone in advance for completing the school survey. The school will receive a report later in the school year, which will influence our future planning. The survey is open until Friday 17 July.
School Watch – Look, Listen, Report
Thank you to Sergeant Ken and his wonderful group of School Watch volunteers, who will be looking after our school and its grounds during the winter holiday. If anyone is our school community sees or hears anything suspicious, please report this to School Watch on 13 17 88. Your continued support and assistance is greatly appreciated.
Prep Enrolments -2021
We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2021. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office. However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 19 August at 9.30am in our School Hall. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 19-23 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 10 November.
If you have a child born between 1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2021. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application; however, the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you, and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2021.
Holiday Break
The school winter vacation commences this Friday 26 June. Term 3 commences on Monday 13 July. Enjoy a happy and safe holiday.

French Day
All students are encouraged to come to school dressed in French theme. This could be something iconically, or stereotypically French. Examples include dressing as a ballerina, a French soccer player, a chef, a baker, a model, an artist, a food item, the President of France or a mime artist. The list is endless. Or they may come in the French colours, dark blue, white and red. If they don't dress in theme they wear their uniform. This is not a free dress day. There is no cost. I am encouraging students to be creative, and discouraging them from spending money on their costumes.
More details will follow, however I wanted to let you know so that you had time over the holidays to think about what you might like to do and get creative!
