Welcome back!
Welcome back to all of our Dayboro State School community for 2025. It has been a fantastic start welcoming the students and seeing them settle into their classrooms and explore their new play areas and activities. It is great to see so many smiling faces ready to learn! A very special welcome also to our 45 new preppies and their families, as well as to all of our other new students across the school.
Our 2025 Dayboro State School Explicit Improvement Agenda is:
Precision in the teaching of reading and a focus on positive student engagement.
We look forward to working with our community this year to ensure success for our students.
Our Dayboro SS staff worked very hard last week to ensure that the learning environments were thoughtfully prepared. The teachers collaborated to plan the teaching and learning to meet the needs of each student, providing quality and engaging learning. Our first two days have been extremely smooth with our students being introduced to the learning routines and their new units of work. We look forward to great learning as the term progresses.

Transitioning to a new year level can be an exciting but sometimes daunting experience. As your child settles in, there may be some adjustments required. The teachers at Dayboro SS are working hard to ensure that you are fully informed about the organisational structures within their classrooms. They will have also shared with you information about the year level Curriculum Overview. Talking to your child about their learning and their new class will assist them to transition. Please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure of procedures, we are happy to help out.

Class Information Sessions
On Wednesday 12 February, we will hold our Class Information Sessions for parents, in the afternoon between 3:10-5:45pm to share more about individual class structures and procedures. Feedback has been that parents valued having all of the information sessions on one afternoon evening making it easier for parents and to help our school community to meet each other. On the afternoon, school staff will be in the library to look after any school aged children while parents attend their session (year 5 and 6 students are welcome to attend their session with their parents). A timetable is attached below. While we have tried very hard to separate year levels for families, I am aware that there are a couple of clashes. If a clash occurs, please consider sending a parent to each of the sessions. Teachers will send follow up information for parents who are unable to attend.
Please see times and classes for sessions below: All sessions will be in the classrooms |

Our Parent Calendar outlines our special events for Term 1.
We look forward to a busy and productive term with a number of special school events in the new few weeks, including:
- School Leaders Investiture Monday 10 February
- Class Information Sessions for Parents after school 12 February
Of course, our vision here at Dayboro SS continues to be - To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment. I look forward to being a partner with you in our child’s learning journey!
Before School Routines
We have had a great start to the year with our students being super keen to get to school to see their friends. A reminder of some beginning of the year before school routines:
- Year 1-6 students need to arrive after 8:15am and head to the CSA for supervision. Helping Hands will take the Year 1-6 students in their care to the CSA at 8:30am. Our first bell rings at 8:40am.
- Prep parents are encouraged to drop off at the Prep rooms at 8:40am. Helping Hands will take Prep students in their care to the Prep rooms at 8:40am. Prep students on buses or with older sibling may wait in CSA.
Thank you for your cooperation. A great start to the day can make all the difference to the school day.
Have a great week!

Dear Families and Friends
A big welcome back to all our returning and new families to Dayboro school this year. 2025 is already off to an excellent start with our “Meet and Greet” session
held last Friday. Parents had the opportunity to visit classrooms and students could meet their teachers before the first day. Thank you teachers for providing this opportunity in a week that is already very busy with staff meetings, professional learnings and preparing classrooms. We hope it helped to relieve some of that first day chaos and anxiety for parents and students, especially when you have to drop more than one child! The first day of school also went very smoothly and the teachers reported that students were highly positive and eager to learn.
Welcome also to our new Student Leaders for 2025. We wish them all the best for the year ahead and their leadership journey.
Finally, a reminder that our School Vision is “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.” Our staff and students are committed to this vision and we are looking forward to a great year of learning and growth for all our students!
In 2025 we also continue to embrace our values of
“Be respectful, be responsible, be positive, be tolerant, be proud and be kind.”
Dayboro State School Behaviour Expectations (School-Wide)
Below are our whole school expectations.
Our staff work very hard to appreciate and acknowledge positive behaviours in our school and these expectations are what we look for! Parents too can help support our staff by reading these through with your children and also positively acknowledging their choices.

Playgroup - Dayboro Little Learners
Playgroup starts on Friday 14th February at 9am. We meet in the Helping Hands house. All ages welcome. Come along and join in the fun. If interested and new to our school, just phone the office and we will add you to our email group to keep you informed about catch ups.
IMPORTANT
School drop-off starts at 8:15am in the morning. Children arriving earlier than this are unfortunately not supervised and parents are responsible for their care until staff arrive on duty at 8:15am.
It is very hot so please remember that it is an expectation that all children wear hats during play times and PE lessons.
The rule is “No Hat, no Play!”
Children that do not wear hats are expected to be in the CSA areas during break times.
SWIMMING – Years 2 and 4.
Year 2 and 4 will be swimming in first term again this year. We changed this last year. This decision was made because of the move of NAPLAN to Term 1 in the year now. This directly affects the Year 3’s and as there are 5 weeks of swimming lessons it was decided it would be best to move them to the end of the year so as not to interrupt their learning. Classes 2C, 2D, 4L, 4B will be swimming from Week 4 until Week 8. They will swim every Thursday and Friday for a 1/2hr lesson for 5 weeks. Notes and invoices will be sent home next week. The cost will be approx..$100 These lessons are an important part of our curriculum and all students are expected to attend.
A big thank you to our hard- working P&C for providing the tissues and tea at our welcome get together on Tuesday after school drop off. It was lovely to see so many parents enjoy meeting others and chatting about the first morning of school.
Thank you Mrs Ryan!
Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Library and Maker Space News
Welcome back!
Welcome back for the 2025 school year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and even managed squeeze in some reading!
Students who completed the Summer Reading Club reading challenge are reminded to bring their challenge cards along to receive their prize.
World Read Aloud Day
Find a book and curl up with a friend, or a pet, and spend some time reading aloud on the 5th of February. We would like to invite all students to bring along a photo of themselves reading aloud to make a display in the Library. We love to see who students read to (family members, pets, etc)! ? Please consider contributing to our display over the next two weeks.
Borrowing
Classes will begin visiting the Library to borrow books this week. Students may borrow books during their class visiting time and during breaks. All loans are set for a period of 2 weeks; parents will receive an automatically generated email advising when student loans are overdue. All students are reminded that they must have a Library bag when borrowing books. Students who do not have a Library bag of their own may come along to the Maker Space and make one using the materials we have available.
Book Fair
Our annual school Book Fair will take place in Term 1 this year. In addition to promoting literacy and a love of reading, book fairs also provide a fun opportunity for children to see, touch and connect with books they want to read. An added benefit for the school is that each purchase from Book Fair earns rewards for the school Library that can be used to purchase new reading books for our students. Keep an eye out for information about Book Fair later in the term.
Maker Space
Maker Space activities will be available in the Library for students once again this year. Students have the option of completing activities of their own choice, or they can choose work on set challenges and activities if they wish. It is always wonderful to see students helping one another with various activities in the Maker Space as they learn new skills and explore their interests.
We would like to ask for some household recyclables to be donated for students to use in the Maker Space, in particular we are asking for cardboard boxes (e.g. cereal boxes, muesli bar boxes etc). Please do not send egg cartons along, we have a large supply at school available in the Library as we must use new cartons due to possible contamination risks for students with an egg allergy.
Have a great week.

Book Club
Brochures for Term 1 Book Club have been distributed to students and can also be viewed online. In this issue you'll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. The books included in this issue span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests with prices starting at just $3.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to their class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Alternatively, order forms with payment can be handed in at the school office. All orders placed through Book Club help to earn free reading books for the school library.
Orders are due this Monday the 17th of February.

Welcome back to a new year.
It is a very busy start to the year in PE and District sports as usual.
For PE lessons
Students need the following for each PE lesson:
- broad brimmed or legionnaire hat so that that can participate fully.
- Water bottle. This way they can drink whenever they need to without disrupting the class and there is only a single fountain on the oval and in the CSA.
-
Shorts/skorts suitable for physical activity. Please no dresses, or if they must wear a dress please ensure they have bike shorts or similar underneath.
Swimming Carnivals:
The Pine Rivers District Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday 19th February at Lawnton Pool. Selected students will be informed by Mrs. Cassell once the district paperwork has arrived.
Cross-country:
Year 3-6 students will develop their fitness during term 1 with the senior cross-country carnival to be held on Tuesday 25th March, with a back up date Tuesday 1st April. This is followed by the district cross country carnival on Wednesday 7th May for selected students born in 2013-2015.
Prep-Year 2 students will train during term 2, when the weather is cooler, culminating in a carnival on Monday 26th May.
District Sports Trials:
The Pine Rivers District run trials through year as a development pathway for 10-12year old students. At the trials, students will compete against other students from the district for a place in the Pine Rivers District Team. If selected for this team they will then be expected to attend district training and then compete against other districts. Some children may then be selected for the Regional team and so on. These trials are not a ‘give it a go’ session but rather a pathway to state and international level. For your child to be considered to trial, they need to be playing that sport in a club at the highest level available. Some less common sports do not hold district trials. Instead, selected students trial out for the regional team directly.
Expression of Interest forms for ALL SPORTS IN TERM ONE are on the sports noticeboard in the CSA (Covered Sports Area). Students who have the skills to qualify for a district team and are interested in trialing need to write their name on the form so that I know who to talk to when the trials approach. Alternatively, parents can email me on cxmar5@eq.edu.au. If students or parents do not inform me of their interest and skill level I will not be able to pass on the required information.
Pine Rivers District introduced a new QR code system last year for all sports trials. The QR codes will be sent through me to those students who are selected to attend the trial. Families will register through the code, then the online trial package will be sent directly to students / families once the nomination date has passed.
Attached is a list of all the District Sports dates and QR scan code closing dates. However, these dates are subject to frequent changes so please keep an eye on the newsletter and encourage your children to listen in parade for updated information. Again, if your child has their name on the Expression of Interest form, I will be able to make sure that the relevant information gets to the correct people. Most sports are run during term one.
