Opportunities for learning extended beyond the classroom
We love opportunities for our students to extend their learning outside the classroom. Several year levels have had this opportunity this term enriching their school experiences:
Our Year 4 students visited the Queensland Museum and SparkLab this term to complement their Material World and Fast Forces Science Unit of work. This hands-on experience allows the students to build their knowledge to use in their inquiry sessions back at school. What a wonderful learning experience at our school.

Our Year 5 students attended the Bray Park State High School STEM Day last week and were exposed to some extension learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths. The high school staff engaged our students with drones, finger printing and forensic science equipment. Our students were able to reflect on this learning and apply some concepts to their units back at school.

Currently our Year 6 students are on camp at Coolum participating in real world activities. They have already actively engaged in team building and problem-solving activities. Today they have had a surf school session and beach activities. The students learn about becoming more independent and developing their peer relationships. The activities will continue this week encouraging our students to step outside their comfort zone.

Remembrance Day
On Monday, our school captains spoke with our students about Remembrance Day and the significance of this commemoration. Our students were able to participate in their classrooms for the remembrance minute of silence.
Our school captains were also invited to the Dayboro War Memorial Association’s service on Monday and spoke beautifully about their perspective on war and how important it is to remember the service men and women who fought for our country. It was wonderful to be a part of the community service and contribute to our beautiful town.
Planning for 2025 – Class Considerations
We are busy planning enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2025 school year. If you have a child due to start Prep in 2025 and have not yet enrolled, please contact our Administration Officer ASAP.
To ensure that our staffing and class placements are organised accurately, please make contact with our administration officer if your child/ren are moving out of our school for 2025.
We will be providing you with class placements early in 2025. We consider our classes right up to this time as students move in and out of the area.
Thanks for your assistance.
Student Success!
We love to celebrate our students success inside and outside the classroom. One of our year 6 students, Heidi recently competed with her gymnastics team at the National Club Carnival at the Gold Coast. Heidi and her team finished 8th out of 60 teams across the four gym apparatus’ (bars, beam, vault, floor) and placed 5th on vault. We are super proud of Heidi’s commitment to her sport to compete at such a high level.

Another of our students, Henry a year 2 student recently competed in the 7 & Under division of the Australian Ninja Games QLD qualifier at Ninja Jungle on the Sunshine Coast. Henry has been working super hard to improve his times and proficiency of the ninja courses. Henry has recently qualified at the UNAA Ninja Nationals in a field of 11 boys for the world championships in Texas in July 2025. Keep working hard Henry, we are excited to see your progress.
Communication
Communication between school and home is so important and we prioritise open and honest discussions about your child’s progress at school, including their social and emotional wellbeing.
At our P&C meeting this week, we discussed communication protocols at our school. Your child’s teacher knows your child the best and therefore, is the first person we would recommend that you contact if you are concerned. If the teacher has a noticed something about your child or there is a concern, they will make contact with you first. If there is a concern in the playground, or in a specialised learning area, sometimes another staff member may contact you to discuss.
Karen and I are always discussing our students’ progress and wellbeing, with our teachers, and therefore are happy to collaborate with you and the teacher should any concern be ongoing. We are a team and we work together to support your child.
Sometimes there is the need to communicate with the whole class parent group, but this is always considered on a case-by-case basis. On these rare occasions that an incident occurs affecting the whole class, we consider the following factors: the wellbeing of our students and how they may have been affected, parent need to discuss situations with their child, and each individual child’s right to privacy. If you have any questions about our communication protocol, please contact me to discuss. I am open to feedback.
Thanks for being a supportive partner in your child’s education.

Dear Families and Friends
TRANSITIONS
At this busy time of year, we can often forget that for many of our students and families it is a time of anticipation and sometimes anxiety about preparing for next year. The Yr 6 students will be leaving for high school and for many, saying goodbye to old friends and teachers and getting ready for completely different routines can be a daunting experience. We try to help this transition by connecting with our local high schools throughout the year and the students begin visiting and getting to know the staff. They also send Yr 7 coordinators to our school to get to know the students and their needs better. We would welcome any feedback from parents with suggestions on how we could improve this process for families, especially first time high school families.
Preparing for Prep is also a big step for families of children starting Prep in 2025. Establishing routines and providing positive experiences are important ways of supporting your child. Check out these links for more practical tips on getting ready for starting school and ways of helping build resilience and emotional well being strategies.
(I Love this one above. It has interesting articles and podcasts and it's DOE. I like the Understanding Key transition points during childhood.)
(The above link is from the State Library of QLD) great for links to articles on sharing stories, play and creativity)
YEAR 5 Bray Park High Visit
Every year Bray Park High invite all our Yr 5 students to attend a STEM day. Our students are involved in a range of fun and educational activities that are usually unique to the high school setting such as learning how to navigate flying a drone, science experiments in a Science Lab and moving around to different teachers for each area. We thank Bray Park for valuing the importance of getting to know our students and for providing this day of fun for our learners. The feedback was that our students were highly engaged and represented Dayboro in an admirable way!! Well done students.

P&C Year in Review and Invitation to Join for 2025!
As we approach the end of another fantastic year, we are so proud of everything our P&C has been able to accomplish in 2024. From fundraising events, tuckshop days, and advocating for our students and families, to working closely with the school administration, teachers, and staff, it has been a year full of dedication and positive energy.
Since filling nearly all the committee positions in 2023 for the first time in years, we’ve been able to form a strong and passionate group of parents these last 2 years. This team is not only committed to serving the school community but has also developed great camaraderie and friendships. It’s been a rewarding experience to be part of such a motivated and enthusiastic group!
P&C AGM – Monday 10th March 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, we know that some of our current members are keen to step back from their roles, and we’d really love to have some new faces join us.
We are thrilled that many of our current members are keen to stay involved next year and fill some of our Executive and Fundraising positions.
We are actively looking for nominations in the following roles:
President
Secretary
Social Media and Marketing/Comms
Both myself (President) and Johanna (Secretary / Social Media) are keen to stay involved as active members of the P&C and would be more than happy to help support and ensure a smooth transition for anyone taking on the roles.
Regardless of whether you are able to take on an executive or support role, we would love to have more of our families join our team.
What does joining the P&C entail?
Signing a membership form. This means you will have voting rights at any of the meetings. From there, it can be whatever you want it to be and you can be involved as much as you want to be.
If I join, do I have to go to every meeting?
We would love to see you there and hear your thoughts, but it is not compulsory. There is always the option to join via Teams at home if you are able. Kids are also welcome.
If I join, do I have to nominate for a position?
No, not at all. Just being a member and contributing when and where you can is enough. We are truly fortunate to have many of the current committee willing to sign up again next year, so if you have been wondering about a position but not wanting to jump straight in, you can always work alongside someone and learn the ropes. We are looking for a President and Secretary, please feel free to talk to Rhiannon and Johanna about the roles.
If I join, do I have to volunteer at the tuckshop every week?
Nope. Of course, if you can volunteer on occasion that’s fantastic, but it certainly isn’t expected or required.
If I join, do I have to volunteer at every event? Not at all. If you can, great! If not, then any contribution to the ideas behind them is amazing.
If I join, do I have to read the newsletter every week? Well, that one is up to you. Your friends may assume you have though ?

There are a range of prizes on offer and parents can join in the reading fun too!
We are also offering Summer Reading Club challenge sheets at school. Challenge sheets are available in the library for students who are interested in participating. Students who complete all of the reading challenges and return their signed challenge form in the new year will receive a prize.

They are working this week on comparing cereal packaging and expressing a preference using evidence. The students have enjoyed collaborating with peers to share ideas. Well done Year 4.

Avian Visitors to Dayboro Today
We had a couple of visitors in the office today. Mrs Bennett rescued a Cygnet from the Moreton Bay area, then came to school to pick up our Lorikeet that had landed in the CSA and looks like he might have an injured wing. I have called the Lorikeet Larry or Lozza (hope he's a boy!) and the Cygnet Simon. I am sure that they are going to be very well looked after with the Bennett Family.

(Still wishing Simon was a Gosling.... I could have named him Ryan!)
