Dear Parents and Caregivers
At the end of this week we are halfway through Term 2. Teachers are now finalising assessments and commencing the process of writing report cards for Semester 1. Once again report cards will only be issued by email with the address recorded at the school. Reports will be issued on Wednesday 26 June.
Once again, the NAPLAN testing process was carried out efficiently. A big thank you is extended to our school staff, parents and students for ensuring that all were well prepared and organised.
The chocolate collection for Dayboro Day has been finalised and the winner of the pizza party decided. A big thankyou to our school community for amassing an amazing 215kg of chocolate to use as prizes for our Dayboro Day Chocolate Wheel. The winning class will be announced on assembly next Monday.

Winter and Flu Season
Winter is almost upon us, bringing cold and influenza season with it. Some of our students (and staff) have already felt the effects of the flu season. Queensland Health’s influenza page , www.qld.gov.au/flu covers the symptoms, how to protect yourself and others from getting sick and discusses appropriate treatments.
Our school will help to prevent the flu from spreading by :
- Encouraging children, staff and visitors to cover their mouths and noses when they sneeze or cough
- Making tissues readily available and ensuring used tissues are disposed of immediately
- Ensuring children and staff wash their hands regularly
- Cleaning our facilities and resources regularly
- Encouraging staff and children with flu-like symptoms to stay at home
If your child catches the flu, please seek medical advice and keep them home until they are feeling well again. Any assistance that can be provided by parents in supporting our school in keeping the flu at bay as much as possible would be most appreciated.
Under 8’s Day

We also look forward to welcoming our local kindergarten children as well as representatives from Bray Park SHS and the emergency services.
Prep Enrolments -2020
We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2020. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office.
However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 28 August at 9.30am in our School Hall. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 14-18 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 12 November.
If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2019. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application, however the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2020.

Dear Families and Friends
This week we celebrate and recognise what it means to be Under 8!
At Dayboro we highly value and support our early childhood team in nurturing and unlocking the vast potential our Prep- Year 2 children all possess. Our younger age cohorts bring such a wonderful sense of curiosity, wonder and playfulness to our school environment and it is these qualities we treasure and encourage in all our students.
Like our young children, we should never forget what it means to ask questions, enquire thoughtfully, ponder purposefully and generally have a sense of curiosity about the world around us. Every great discovery, advancement in medical science, or progress towards a new invention started with the question WHY?
Under 8’s Day this week will be celebrated at Dayboro State School on Friday 24thMay. See details below. Parents and friends of our younger children in P-2 are invited to come along and celebrate with us! Many thanks to our hardworking P-2 team who have organised this event!
EXCITING NEWS! OUR CLASS CHOCOLATE COMPETITION WEIGH IN WAS HELD!

Numeracy at Dayboro State School
Since 2017 Dayboro State School has implemented fundamental changes to the way we teach Numeracy.
Numeracy is the application of mathematical knowledge and understanding in problem-solving situations. Mathematics education in the 21st century goes beyond routine (mastery & automaticity) and includes innovative problems that are complex, unfamiliar and non-routine. Mathematics lessons at Dayboro all feature the following key elements, to ensure consistency of teaching practice from Prep to Year 6:
- Consolidation of existing and developing concepts;
- Explicit learning of new concepts;
- Investigation of mathematical questions and patterns (Thinking and Reasoning);
- Communication with others using the language of Mathematics; and
- Reflection on their own learning and thinking.
Ask your child about using the ‘Fishbowl’ strategy to explore and respond to other students’ ideas or to explain the ‘I think….because…..’ approach to reasoning and problem solving. For more information about how you can assist with the development of your child’s numeracy skills, please check out the following links:

P&C Election Day “Democracy Sausage” BBQ (Saturday 18 May)
Thanks so much for the hearty support we received from P&C members and other family volunteers who were on hand to help throughout the day of this event. We would especially like to thank Kylie Juleff (and the girls) for all the preparation and ordering work, along with the big effort throughout the day, as well as Phill Herricane who manned the event all day from set up, cooking on the BBQ, through to pack up. Thank you all.
This was a successful fundraising BBQ event, including the first sales of tickets for our major raffle (many more to be sold at Dayboro Day), and although we don’t have all expense invoices in, we believe we’ve raised somewhere upwards of $1400.00 for our school!
Dayboro Day (26 May)
Dayboro Day is just about upon us. We of course need volunteers to assist throughout the day, so please consider helping your P&C and watch out for posts and the volunteer list on the P&C Facebook page. It will be a gold coin donation at each activity, with the bucking bull ride $5.00, and all proceeds raised from this is being kindly donated to our School.
Please also buy a ticket or two (they are only $2.00 each) in our P&C’s major raffle where the winner receives 4 nights at the Sea World Resort & Water Park for 2 Adults and 2 children, which also includes entry to Sea World, Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast, and Paradise Country over the same 4-day period, plus a Caltex Fuel Card valued at $200, along with food and beverage credit for Sea World Resort & Water Park valued at $100. See you all around on Dayboro Day!
