Book Week – Fabulous Parade!
We LOVE reading at Dayboro State School so what a way to celebrate books than Book Week! Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Barratt have done an amazing job talking to our students about Book Week and encouraging them to explore new texts in our school library. You should take a visit to our library to see the amazing displays!

Today at the parade, we marvelled at the fantastic costumes and most importantly talked to each other about which character we were from which book. What a buzz about reading!!! Thank you to all of our amazing parents and carers for your efforts in helping, reminding and making props and costumes!

Being a Dayboro Learner
We have been working very hard this term to explain our qualities of being a Dayboro Learner and each fortnight practising these qualities. Last week we were focussing on Collaboration which is such an important part of learning. It has been wonderful to see our students collaborating in:
Science
Lego Robotics
Maths
This fortnight, we have introduced Quin the Quokka who is a Critical Thinker. The staff are working hard with students to unpack the traits of a Critical Thinker. Please encourage your little learners to be critical thinkers.

Student Success!
Our Pine Rivers Athletics team members, selected from the recent districts, attended the Regional Track and Field Carnival over the past two days. They have had an amazing time competing at this level. Early results are:
Emily – 1st in Shotput, 2nd Discus, 1st in the Tetrathlon (..this is really hard)

In Breaking news...
We just heard that Makynli has also made the Met North team as a participant in the Tetrathlon!
Congrats to all of our team.
We have also had several of our students following their passion and focusing on cheerleading. Many of our DSS students competed last weekend with results including 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Congrats to the teams!!!

QParents – Please sign up for consents! Urgent news re excursions/incursions
After our Administration Officers spending multiple hours on the phone this year chasing up payments for incursions and excursions, we will unfortunately now be withdrawing students who haven’t paid from these events by the cut off day. We do send multiple reminders to families encouraging them to complete the payments, or a payment plan. Class Teachers also send emails to remind parents. The easiest way is to sign up for QParents to keep a track of permission forms and invoices.
QParent invitations have been sent to each family, but if you need assistance, please see Jill in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and odd Wednesdays. SIGN UP TODAY!
and finally from me this week...
Mrs Mac Retirement!!!
I am sure that EVERONE knows Mrs McDonald our amazing Admin Officer who has worn MANY hats over the years here at Dayboro State School. Mrs Mac has helped so many students and their families over the last 35 years of service! We will certainly miss her enormous breadth of knowledge about everything Dayboro State School and her quick wit. It will be a sad day for our staff and students when she hangs up her DSS hat at the end of this term. We will be in contact about Kay’s farewell details in the last two weeks.
Have a great week! Gabrielle
Dear Families and Friends
Well, it’s getting closer to the end of term and the last few weeks are looking busier than ever. Parent Conferences will be held in Week 8,9 and 10 this term. Please take advantage of this valuable opportunity and organise a time to speak with your child’s class teacher. You can make a time through the SOBS booking online system and the link has been sent via your class email as well as an email sent to all parents from Mrs Douglas. This term we have offered two late evening sessions on Tuesday 29th August and Tuesday 5th September to accommodate working parents. These sessions will be held in the hall and will be the main sessions when interviews will be held. Teachers have already sent links where you can book and have all so made some other times during the week when they will be available.
Just a reminder also that over the last two weeks of this term, teachers will again be involved in curriculum planning in their Professional Learning Year Level Teams. Please be aware that there may be different teachers on your child’s classes in Weeks 9 and 10 while teachers are released off class to collaboratively plan and moderate with their Year Level teams.
Also, please look out for Swimming Notes being sent out shortly for Prep, Yr 1 and Yr 3 classes. Swimming starts next term in Week 3 of the term for these Year Levels.
As we head closer to the holidays, it is important to remember to remind children to keep focused on their work at school and at home.
Reading and revising work learnt in class, is an important part of being prepared for learning and revising concepts taught in class, at home, helps children at school. I would encourage all children to be reading or read to every night!
WRITING AT DAYBORO.
At Dayboro we value creative, authentic and engaging writing for a purpose. Our goal for 2023 has been to lift the engagement of our students in writing in all its’ forms and to celebrate successes in writing. Our teachers work hard to embed the teaching of high-quality writing practices in their classrooms. Teachers meet regularly to discuss and share writing samples of students and it is pleasing to see our students working so diligently on their writing goals and becoming better writers!
Yr 2 are creating Multi-Modal procedures purposefully written to be delicious or disgusting depending on their audience. So much fun and such clever use of adjectives and adverbs ton enhance their writing.

Our Vision: “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”
Greetings to all members of our vibrant P&C community! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for the last meeting. Your presence and active participation truly exemplify the strength and unity of our community. Together, we continue to make a positive impact on our school, our children's education, and their overall experience.
A warm welcome goes out to our two new members who have recently joined our P&C family. We are excited to have you on board and look forward to collaborating with you as we work towards enhancing our school community.
Katherine and I had the pleasure of attending the Prep Information Session. It was a heartwarming occasion where we had the pleasure of meeting new families and guiding them through the exciting journey of choosing uniforms for their little ones. It's wonderful to witness the enthusiasm of our new parents as they embark on this important chapter in their children's lives.
A Successful Leap Forward with Grants and Upgrades
It brings us immense joy to announce that our persistent efforts have borne fruit. We are thrilled to inform you that Elise secured a grant from Pine Rivers Community Finance that allowed us to replace the tuckshop's aging grill. This achievement reflects our commitment to ensuring the best facilities for our students, staff, and volunteers. The new grill press not only enhances efficiency in the tuckshop but also emphasizes our dedication to maintaining high standards in all aspects of our school environment.
In our continuous pursuit of improvement, we have also managed to procure new equipment for the tuckshop, phasing out outdated items and streamlining operations.

Generosity that Makes a Difference
We are incredibly proud to announce that, thanks to your unwavering support and involvement in our fundraising activities, we have been able to contribute $13,050 to the school for a significant upgrade in technology equipment in the Junior School. This investment will undoubtedly pave the way for enhanced learning experiences and enable our students to engage with the latest tools and resources. It's a testament to our community's collective belief in the power of education and our commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive.

A Celebration of Fatherhood
As the calendar turns towards September, we eagerly prepare to celebrate our fathers and father figures. The Father's Day Stall is just around the corner (Tuesday 29th August) and it promises to be a fun occasion filled with joy, appreciation, and thoughtful gifts.
The Father's Day Stall is a lovely opportunity for us to come together and honor the incredible Fathers and Father figures in our lives. It's a chance to show gratitude for their unwavering support, love, and guidance. Whether it's a Dad, Stepdad, Grandpa, Uncle, or Family Friend, this event recognizes their significant contributions and allows our students to express their love in meaningful ways.
Curated Selection of Gifts
Our dedicated fundraising team has been hard at work curating a fantastic array of gifts that students can choose from. With prices ranging from $1 to $15, there's something for everyone, ensuring that all students can participate and find a special token of appreciation. Much like the beloved gift packs featured at the Mother's Day stall, these offerings are bound to bring smiles and create lasting memories. Here is a sneak peak at just 3 of the gifts packs that will be on offer.

What to Expect
On the day of the stall, students will need to bring cash and a bag to hold their chosen gifts. The stall will be set up to welcome each class and teacher throughout the day. This arrangement ensures that all students can have the opportunity to visit the stall, browse the selection, and make their choices at their own pace. It's a chance for them to independently select something heartfelt and meaningful to gift to their special father figure.
Join Us in Making Memories
As we gear up for the Father's Day Raffle and the Father's Day Stall, we encourage you to get involved in these exciting events. Your participation, whether as a volunteer or a contributor, plays a pivotal role in making these initiatives successful. Let's come together to celebrate the father figures in our community and create cherished memories for our students. Jump on to School24 Volunteer Roster if you can give some time to help out.
Some other events to keep an eye out for:
- Tuesday 29th August – Father’s Day Stall
- Thursday 7th September – Family Dance Night
- Saturday 16th September – Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
- Friday 6th October – Colour Run
School24
In exciting news, we are thrilled to announce that School 24 is now live for both the tuckshop and uniform shop. This digital platform will streamline the process of ordering uniforms and tuckshop items, making it more convenient, cost effective and efficient for all involved. We appreciate your patience during the transition and look forward to utilizing this new system. Please reach out if you need any assistance setting up your new account.
Remember, it's the collective effort of our community that makes our school thrive. Every contribution, whether it's through attending meetings, volunteering, or participating in events, helps create a positive and enriching environment for our children to learn and grow.
Thank you for being a part of our dynamic P&C community. Together, we can achieve great things and continue to make our school a place of excellence, collaboration, and connection.
Warm regards,
Rhiannon Fealy, P&C President
