Family Dance Night – THIS THURSDAY!
This Thursday evening, we will host our Family Dance Night at Dayboro SS. What a wonderful way to allow our students to showcase their learning of Dance through the Dance Fever program this term. Dance makes up one of the five subjects in The Arts curriculum.
We look forward to seeing the students have a wonderful time starting with the disco and dinner, and then settling into their performances from 6:30pm. Please ensure that you pre-order your family’s dinner requirements via the order form sent through last week (and also attached to this newsletter) by Tuesday afternoon.
A reminder that we will ask for the parents of the students performing ONLY to enter the hall when that Year level is showing off their dance moves – this will limit the number of adults in that space. Please ensure that you are wearing a mask if you enter the hall.
Thanks for your consideration and we look forward to a fabulous night!

Teachers collaboration for moderation
Last Friday our staff worked hard to make great use of the student free day. The teachers worked with Mt Samson teachers to moderate work samples. Class Teachers took the opportunity to moderate their Unit 4 writing samples while our specialist teachers moderated in their subject specific areas. What a great opportunity to collaborate and dig deep into the curriculum expectations for our students. There was also time for the teachers to discuss teaching strategies and best practice around teaching.

Parent Teacher Conferences
It has been wonderful to see that many parents have booked in or already engaged in their Parent Teacher Conference. What a wonderful way to show your child that their learning is so important to you. The SOB’s booking platform has now closed to allow our teachers to prepare for their schedule. If you still need to book in a time, you will need to email your child’s class teacher, just being mindful they are working extended hours at the moment to facilitate the conferences.
Thank you to our amazing teachers for ensuring they are available to share your child’s learning journey with you. It will also be great to understand your child’s next steps to improve their learning in semester 2.
Have a great week!

WRITING AT DAYBORO.
At Dayboro we value creative, authentic and engaging writing for a purpose. Our goal for 2021 has been to lift the engagement of our students in writing in all its’ forms and to celebrate successes in writing. Our teachers work hard to embed the teaching of high quality writing practices in their classrooms. Teachers meet regularly to discuss and share writing samples of students and it is pleasing to see our students working so diligently on their writing goals and becoming better writers!
Here are some examples of writing goals from students across our school.
“I am learning to add interesting noun groups to my narrative.”
“I am learning to write more complex and detailed sentences.”
“I am learning how to sequence steps correctly in my procedure/ recipe.”
“I am learning how to create mood in my narrative through effective use of similes and metaphors.”

Maker Space
In addition to our regular activities, students have been busy creating their own pets in the maker space over the last two weeks – painting pet rocks was a very popular choice and everyone did an awesome job of keeping the paint out on the deck. ?

New Staff
We welcome Mr Riley to the team! Mr Riley is our newest permanent educator and will be with us most days. Be sure to say 'hi’ and introduce yourself when you see him ?
Lost Property
Unfortunately, our lost property pile has grown immensely this term, with several jumpers, hats, drink bottles and other items included. Please encourage your child/ren to check this next time they are attending and ensure that all items are named correctly so we can help return these items.
Absences
If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Please see one of our educators for support if you are experiencing issues making or managing your bookings. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no-show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.
Looking to join in on the fun?
Enrolling your child/ren is easy and there are no enrolment fees. Visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au , click Register on the top right corner, select Dayboro as your service and fill in all the details to register your iParent Portal account and enrol. When this is submitted, we will be in touch as soon as possible to support the finalisation of your enrolment and initial bookings. If you have any issues, please contact Jenny at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts on 1300 612 462.
