Welcome to Term 3!
It was lovely to see our students return for term 3 and share their holiday adventures with their friends and the staff.

We have certainly hit the ground running by diving into our Term 3 units of work. Staff work super hard to make the learning engaging and challenging. Our teachers have sent out your child’s Curriculum Overview for Term 3….this can be a great conversation starter when speaking to your child about learning. On the Semester one report cards, the teachers outlined some next steps for English and Maths. Students will be setting goals to match these next steps for learning. Please contact your child’s teacher’s if you would like to discuss their progress further. Formal Parent Teacher Conferences will take place at the end of this term.
Please find attached our Term 3 Parent Calendar V3 to keep you informed of our term 3 events.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines.
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).Further information about the NCCD is outlined in the attached Parent Fact Sheet.
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please feel free to contact Gabrielle Douglas - Principal, or Alicia Taverlardis - Inclusion Teacher amell22@eq.edu.au.
Extra support for Dayboro SS – Department of Education Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist
This term our Department of Education Occupational Therapist, Gail Pfeffer, and Physiotherapist, Melissa Elliot, will continue to support Dayboro State School. They support referred students through our student support referral process (parents provide written consent, but will also be available this semester during their days at DSS to observe and provide feedback for teachers and specialist staff when visiting our classrooms and the Hive. Sometimes this advice is around the learning environment and sometimes specific strategies or adjustments for students. This is an opt out service. If you do not want your child’s teacher to receive strategies for support specifically for your child if required, please let Alicia Tavelardis, our Inclusion specialist know via email amell22@eq.edu.au.

Have a great week!

BRISBANE BUS LINES
A message from the bus companies- unfortunately we still have parents dropping off and picking up in our bus turnaround. This area is strictly only for buses before and after school. We want to keep ALL our students safe – the students who catch buses as well as the students getting collected by parents, grandparents etc. So keeping this bus lane free, will ensure all students can enter and exit safely.
Message from CITY OF MORETON BAY
Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) Local Laws Unit undertakes a School Parking Patrol Program where officers complete scheduled school patrols, both in the morning and afternoon, to ensure that vehicles are parked in a safe and lawful manner. The primary aim of the program is to ensure that students and family members/caregivers are able to safely move around the school area as part of dropping off or picking up students from the school.
The Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.5 (Parking) 2011 and Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1999 control parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, marked yellow lines, shared paths, dividing strips and nature strips, along with vehicles parking across residents driveways and within ‘No Stopping’, ‘No Parking’, and ‘Bus Zones’ and Pick-up / Drop -off zones. Council is legally required to enforce these areas and the School Parking Patrol Program forms part of this process. Drivers are reminded that footpaths and nature strips are in place to promote pedestrian movement in a safe manner along roadsides and that drivers and residents must not stop on a bicycle path, shared path, dividing strip or nature strip. Please also note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels up and two wheels down is not considered as a lawful parking practice.
Local Laws officers conduct enforcement through the issuance of Penalty Infringement Notices as part of each School Parking Patrol. Please be aware that Council officers may take photographic evidence of vehicles stopping or parking illegally with Penalty Infringement Notices to be issued via mail at a later date to the offending vehicle’s owner.
Visit www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/parking for further guidance on parking restrictions.
For any further information, members of the School community are welcome to contact Moreton Bay Regional Council on 3205 0555.

Next Meeting: Monday, 21st July 2025 at 6.30pm – online only this month
Our P&C meet on the second Monday of every month, both in person and online. It is a great opportunity to get to know Mrs Douglas and Mrs Ryan, along with other parents and community members who are all committed to the continued improvement of our school.
If you would like to come along, please contact Steph at secretary@dayboropandc.org.au. We would love to see you there.
Common Questions We Get Asked:
Do I have to come to every meeting?
Nope! We know how busy life gets. You can be as involved as you like—whether that’s attending meetings, helping at events, or simply staying in the loop with what’s happening at school.
When do you meet?
We meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm, both in person and online to make it as easy as possible to join.
What does the P&C do?
We work together to support the school, students, and families in all sorts of ways, including:
✅ Running the tuckshop & uniform shop
✅ Raising money for important school projects (our current goals: a new playground & air-con for the hall!)
✅ Planning fun school events for students & families
✅ Advocating for students and parents by working closely with the school leadership team
The best part - You don’t need any special skills or heaps of free time to help out, many hands make light work! Whether you want to contribute a little or a lot, we’d love to welcome you to our P&C community.
So why not stop by, say hi, and see what we’re all about? No pressure, just good company, and a chance to connect with other school families. See you there!

Welcome Back
Welcome back! Hopefully everyone had an opportunity to squeeze in some reading during their break.
The Library is a busy time during Term 3 as we get ready to celebrate Australian children’s literature during Book Week which is held during the last week of August. Students from across the school will have the opportunity to create items to decorate the Library as part of our “Book an Adventure” displays in the lead up to Book Week.
Book Week
Our annual Book Week celebrations are scheduled for 18th – 22nd of August.
We have planned some exciting activities to help us celebrate Book Week. Our Character Costume Parade will be held on Wednesday the 20st of August from 9:15 a.m. on the oval.
This year we would like to continue to acknowledge more of the students who make the effort to come along in a book themed costume. The goal of our costume parade is to build excitement in children’s literature and to encourage maximum participation in Book Week. This year, each student who participates in our costume parade will have their name put into a lucky draw to win a book prize. There will be one book prize per class. We will still have certificates acknowledging costumes that align with our fun categories and this year’s theme “Book an Adventure”.
We cannot wait to see all the awesome costumes! Students are welcome to come and work in the maker space on Fridays at first break to create costume elements (e.g. a mask, a crown, etc) in preparation for the costume parade in August.
We also have some fun competitions for students to enter as part of our Book Week celebrations. Students can visit the Library for more information and entry forms. Prizes will be presented during Book Week.
This year, as part of the theme “Book an Adventure”, all students will be issued with a reading passport. Students can earn stamps for their passport by borrowing books or participating in Library activities. There are three different stamps that can be earned and each time a student has earned two of each stamp they can enter our weekly prize draw.
We also have Meerkat Productions returning to perform a live-action retelling of two of the books that have been nominated to win prizes during Book Week. This year’s books are “The Garden of Broken Things” for Prep – Year 3 students and “Small Acts” for Year 4 – Year 6 students. We hope everyone can join us for these events. Invoices for payment for students to attend these shows will be sent to families in the coming weeks.
During Book Week each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia award prizes to Australian authors in 6 different categories. This year’s shortlisted books for the Early Childhood Book of the Year and Picture Book of the Year categories are shown below.
Our pick from the Early Childhood category is “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Tooth Fairy: (and Some Things You Didn’t)”. This book is filled with fun details on how Tooth Fairies are able to do their job, what makes Tooth Fairies so magical, and what they do with all of those teeth! The book also has a simple costume idea for our character costume parade – come as a tooth fairy wearing your pyjamas and fairy wings (remember your comfy socks).
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2025 is still running. To complete the challenge students in Prep – Year 4 need to read 20 books, and students in Year 5 and Year 6 need to read 15 books. Reading record sheets are available from class teachers and from the Library.
Sports captains will resume counting class reading tallies this week.
Have a Great Week

Dayboro State School Musical
The Lorax Reader’s Theatre Edition
Original story by Dr. Seuss
Adapted for stage by Storymakers Studio
Rehearsals are well underway for this year’s ‘The Lorax’ musical at Dayboro State School. The cast has been allocated, scripts have been printed and rehearsals are up and running. We are incredibly proud of the acting and singing talent we have at Dayboro. Our students have come into this musical confident, willing to grow and willing to take on feedback to be the best performers they can be. We have seen so much support of each other, between the cast, and there has been a buzz of excited energy, also.
Here are some photos of our most recent rehearsal where Mr Makepeace was taking our performers through a series of activities to build team work, focus and improvisation.
