Deputy's News

Dear Families and Friends

NAPLAN testing time again!

Our Year 3 and 5 students will soon participate in the annual National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests to assess their skills and understanding in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

The tests will be conducted in all state and non-state schools across the country from 10–18 May. This year all tests will be conducted online, except for the Yr.3 Writing test.

It is important that all students in these year levels arrive on time during this testing period as many sessions begin at 9am. We have Catch Up sessions planned every day for those students that are absent.

An individual NAPLAN report for each child will be sent home later this year. Results provide additional feedback for parents, carers and teachers on how students are progressing in key curriculum areas.

The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure your child that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to urge them to simply do the best they can.

Further NAPLAN information for parents and carers is available online. Please contact the school if you have any questions about your child participating in NAPLAN testing.

EXCITING WRITING

5M have been learning how to write a range of persuasive texts this term. They have had some very interesting topics to write about.

This greeted the children when they returned from holidays.

Our classroom chairs have quit!

The reasons the chairs gave are:

  • You never tuck us in,
  • You make too much noise when using us,
  • You are always swinging on us,
  • You sometimes draw on us,
  • You even stand on us, and
  • You can stand, it is healthy for you.

Convince our chairs they should re-engage with us!

Remember to be persuasive

The Day the Chairs Quit!

Emily here.

Alright chairs, we really need you back! Our legs are getting super tired! I promise that we won’t swing on you anymore and that we’ll get all our swinging done in the playground. We’ll do our best to keep the noise down and draw on our note pads instead. I hope you return; I miss you!

From Emily

Chairs, please come back.

  1. We need you sometimes, like, if we have been running around a lot and need a break, we will need to sit down.
  2. If we are in a test and we are standing up, we will see others’ marks.
  3. If we are looking at the board while our teacher is teaching us, the person in front will be in the way so you can’t see passed.
  4. I know you need a break, but we sometimes get so tired that it feels like we will die!

These are 4 of many reasons, but I cannot list them all, the point I am getting at is … PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!

Thanks

Your friend Chloe.

Stay with us!

Please stay in our classroom! We all promise that if you stay, we will 100% never make too much noise, swing on you, stand on you, or even draw on you. And if you leave us, we will break our backs and get easily worn out.

I really don’t understand why anyone would do such bad things to you – all you are used for is sitting on in class time. So please stay in our classroom, we all promise we will stop the bad behaviour immediately. So come back chairs!

Your pal, Sam

Classroom Chairs Have Quit!

I know you are about to leave and all but, if you leave, you won’t have ANY warm bottoms to sit on you and keep you all snug and warm. Especially because it’s coming even closer to Winter, and you will be FREEZING without us. You might even catch a cold! Brrrr! I know that will NOT be good at all for anyone, even chairs!

As you chairs said, standing is healthy for us but that won’t be happening! You see, if we stand for 6 hours straight, all we would focus on is our aching legs and backs. We will be distracted from learning and drawn to our stinging legs. I mean what’s the point of school if you can’t learn? Eventually we all could, well, faint.

If you guys leave, who will entertain you? You will always be lonely without us and regret your move and you’ll want to come back to us. I know it might seem like a lie, but who keeps you happy by being with you? Us. If you get bored in class, you can always sleep because YOU’RE not the ones working, we are. As I said, you can do pretty much whatever, because we are the ones learning not you. You do have a choice though, that is unless we are sitting on you.

Those are all my reasons why I think you should definitely come back to us. I hope all of this persuades you.

From Emma

Please Come Back

Dear Chairs,

I know I’m your favourite kid and all, but the others are getting really tired of standing up. Let’s talk.

You try to stand up for six hours a day! Especially after lunchtime, trust me it’s really hard. Lunchtime and play are to stretch your legs and run around but when you stand up for two hours before play and you go to run around, your legs are really tired, and you can’t do anything.

So please if we promise to tuck you in, be quieter with you, don’t swing on you, never draw on you, will you come back? But unfortunately, we cannot promise we won’t stand on you. Mrs Mills needs to put posters up but will try not to use you as much. Please come back.

Sincerely yours,

Your favourite student, Bronte

Dear Chairs,

I know most kids, now I’m not naming names, rock on you, never tuck you in, swing on you, etc. “I am not that person.”

So, on behalf of everyone else, “PLEASE COME BACK.”

Now, I can’t promise that the other kids will stop but I know for a fact that my friends (Ella, Bronte, Abbie, Emma, Gemma, Ahleya and many more) will stop and we will try to help you poor chairs. We appreciate you for your hard work.

Now life must be hard for a chair when everyone drags you on the floor and hurts your feet. Your only break is when we go to lunch and home time but people like my friends and I will be nice to you.

Love Isabella

Hey Chairs,

It’s me Ella. We cannot have you quit! We need you! What are we supposed to do if we can’t sit down! We won’t be able to work properly or concentrate. If we can’t concentrate, then we won’t get good marks! Our handwriting will be messy and no-one would be able to read it. Yeah, standing up may be healthy, but we have to sit down! You must come back!

Your tired and sick of standing up friend, Ella.

P.S. Our legs will get sore, and everyone will moan all the time if you don’t come back.

****

I apologise for the inconveniences, but we need you to sit on.

I am sorry that you aren’t tucked in but the kids that do that want to be first in line and we promise that it won’t happen again.

I also apologise that it is too loud some kids are just born loud and some kids are born quiet, and we are enthusiastic to go to lunch and we will try to keep it down.

Our school doesn’t have swings, so we make do with what we’ve got, and and it helps us think. So, we use you to swing but we will stop as soon as possible.

We sometimes draw on you because the teacher says that we can’t draw on our books and I’m sorry that people do draw on you.

We only stand on you because we need to get something high up on the wall for learning and I’m sorry you don’t like it.

I know it’s healthy, but our legs get tired, and we need to focus and if we are standing then we are focusing on that more, so we get lower scores in a test.

I am sorry that all these things make you mad but maybe we could work things out and co-operate better.

Please come back,

Will

To our Lovely Classroom Chairs,

Please come back to our classroom and be our nice chairs again.

  1. We promise we won’t leave you out and we will always tuck you in when we’re not using you.
  2. We won’t make lots of noise when we’re using you, or putting you away, or when we’re stacking you at the end of the day.
  3. We especially won’t swing or rock on you because
  4. It is very dangerous, and you could get hurt.
  5. You don’t like it when we do it.
  6. We will never, ever, ever draw on you again because we are all very good children.
  7. We all promise that we most definitely won’t stand on you to get to higher places anymore.
  8. We all know that standing is good and healthy for our body and our muscles but we would much rather sit on you guys than just stand in the one place and also our legs start to hurt when we stand for too long.

We need our chairs back. Will you please come back to us if we do all of those things?

So are you coming back?

Yay? or Nay?

Please circle one or the other.

Your friend,

Ahleya

Thank you to our whole school community for supporting Photo Day last Friday. It was such a pleasure to see nearly 100% of our students in their formal uniform and Preps in their Prep shirts. Well done everyone!
