Helping Hands News

Good Afternoon Parents and Caregivers

Badminton has been a new game for a handful of our children in recent weeks, with high levels of commitment to be able to hit the shuttlecock successfully. Children identified the similarities badminton has to other sports and games like tennis and handball. Discussions arose around the different racquets used and net heights during this activity. Hearing children identify independently the similarities and differences in skills used in different sports helps them to grasp rules and techniques with confidence.
We have constructed with magic sand and playdough, creating houses, Olympic medals and various other items. It has been a delight to observe children engaging in positive conversations and strengthening relationships with their peers.
Rock painting was a hit with our children last week, with different designs coming to life. Children were ecstatic to paint and create on something different.

Our service acknowledged National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2021 on the 4th August. This year's theme, Proud in Culture, Strong in Spirit was discussed with our children whilst participating in an art activity. We learned about the traditional colours of our local tribe; blue, yellow, cream and brown. Our children participated in this conversation and acknowledgement with enthusiasm to increase their knowledge about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, because they know that understanding is a crucial component in developing cultural competence.

Congratulations to Claire Hough for her effort in her drawing to become the cover of our local phonebook for 2022. Well done!!

A reminder that if your child/ren participate in extra-curricular activities either before or after school, a new permission form will need to be signed to coincide with the new school term.

Thank you to all our parents for complying with the mask restriction and remaining outside of the service building. We appreciate your patience during this time.

If your child/ren will be absent from a session, please ensure they are marked absent on the iparent portal. This is done under the bookings tab by selecting the date/session and clicking the red x on the right. Please see one of our educators for support if you are experiencing issues making or managing your bookings. Failure to notify us of absences in after school care means educators are having to search for children and a no show fee may be applied to your account. A reminder that bookings with less than 24hrs will need to be made via contacting the service on 0459 991 697.

Vacancies are available for both morning and afternoon sessions on selected days, and we welcome all children and families to the service. To enrol your child, please visit www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au, selecting Dayboro as your service and following the prompts to access the iParent Portal. If you have any issues, please contact Jenny at the service on 0459 991 697 or our customer accounts on 1300 612 462.
