Library & Maker Space
Maker Space
We missed seeing everyone in the maker space last week so we’ve included some photos from earlier this term. Box construction has been a very popular choice as a lunch time activity, in fact we have run out of boxes! If you have any empty boxes, especially the thinner type of cardboard used to make cereal boxes, muesli bar boxes, etc. we would be grateful to accept them for the construction table in the maker space (please note we cannot accept donated egg cartons due to allergy risk).
Book Week Celebrations – Change of Dates for Dayboro State School for 2021
Due to current Education Queensland restrictions limiting the size of gatherings we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our Book Week celebrations for October 18th - October 22nd.
The new date for our annual Character Costume Parade will be October 20th. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are hoping that by delaying our event there may be an opportunity for more members of our school community to be involved.
We cannot wait to see all of the awesome costumes!
At this stage the Meerkat Productions team will still be visiting the school on August 26th to perform a live-action retelling of two of the books that have been nominated to win prizes during Book Week. This year’s books are “Your Birthday was the Best” for lower school students and “Aster’s Good, Right Things” for upper school students. The cost to attend the performance is $8.80 per student.
If current Education Queensland restrictions limiting the size of gatherings and visitors to schools are extended beyond the 22nd of August the date of performance will be rescheduled.
Book Week Display Progress Pictures
We have continued working on our displays and decorations in preparation for Book Week 2021. The Library is definitely starting to look amazing. We can’t wait to see the displays once all of the student contributions have been added!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
A reminder that this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge ends on 27th of August. Remember to get your reading record sheets back to your class teacher.
Australian Reading Hour
Join us on Tuesday 14 September 2021 to celebrate the joy of reading!
About Australian Reading Hour
Originally launched by Australian libraries and library associations for the National Year of Reading in 2012, the Australian Reading Hour began as an event for all Australians to set aside one hour on one day to read – whatever they wanted, wherever they were located, and however they chose to read.
It has since become an annual program featuring events with Australian authors, writers, poets and illustrators in libraries, schools, bookshops, and even in shopping centres, and on public transport. (https://australiareads.org.au/australian-reading-hour/)
Have a great week!
