Deputy's News
Dear Families and Friends
On Wednesday 19th May we participated in National Simultaneous Story Time day. The book chosen this year was GIVE ME SOME SPACE written and illustrated by Philip Bunting, and even more exciting was that the children got to listen to a reading by astronaut Dr Shannon Walker LIVE from the International Space station. Children across Australia were all read this book at the same time and then were involved in activities afterwards. Our children were entertained at the hall with activities and a special reading of the book. A special thanks to Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Hetherington for organising this special day.
On Friday 21st May we also held our annual event “Under 8’s day”
The Prep -2 students, many assisted by their wonderful parents, spent the morning doing a range of fun activities that supported the theme of Under 8’s week across Australia this year “Children Celebrating Outdoor Play and Learning.” We certainly did this with glorious weather for the day and lots of bubble blowing, hula hooping and obstacle course fun to be had. A big thank you to our local Kindy groups, Helping Hands, our Fire and Rescue services, and Sgt Ken and Sgt Paul for helping to make the day very special also.

Scooter, Skateboard and rollerblade riders.
We have some members of our community highly concerned about the safety of our children, some of who are not riding their scooters safely and responsibly around town, especially on footpaths and near other pedestrians. If your child scooters to and from school please take the time to talk to your child about the importance of riding safely and at a sensible speed near pedestrians. Below are some more detailed points to discuss with them:
Foot scooter, skateboard and rollerblade riders should always wear an approved helmet, properly fitted and fastened, as well as protective pads on their knees and elbows.
Bicycle helmets with a standards approved sticker, properly fitted and fastened provide the best head protection.
Remind your child to be considerate of pedestrians. Your child should keep to the left and ride in a courteous manner that does not cause other road users to react suddenly. They need to slow down or walk in busy areas.
Your child will be more visible wearing bright, light coloured or reflective clothing. They should ride in a safe place off-road and away from vehicles and driveways.
Your child should avoid using foot scooters, skateboards and rollerblades in car parks and on roads.
WINTER IS ON ITS WAY!
