Library and Maker Space News
Welcome back!
Welcome back for the 2021 school year. We trust everyone had an enjoyable break and managed to squeeze in some reading during the summer holidays!
New Books
We have had our first delivery of books for the year. When book orders are placed we aim to include titles that we know our students will enjoy such as books by popular authors or books that are new titles in a popular book series.
Students are welcome to suggest books to include in our Library collection.

Borrowing
It has been fantastic to see so many enthusiastic borrowers come to the Library already this year! Our goal is to foster a love of reading by helping children to select a book they will enjoy and not find overly challenging to read. During class visits we have been discussing the “just right” strategy for students to use when selecting books. This strategy empowers students to select books that will allow them to read with independence, but still provide them with an opportunity to improve their reading.
Students will require a library bag in order to borrow books from the Library as this helps to protect the books while they are on loan. Students who are in need of a library bag are welcome to come along to the Library during lunch breaks to make a bag of their own to use for borrowing.
Books can be exchanged on any day during breaks, students do not have to wait until their class borrowing day.
Maker Space
Maker space is up and running again and is already proving to be a popular choice for our students during breaks each day. We have seen some amazing inventions being produced at the crafting table. Robots and Osmo challenges have been very popular at first break and it is wonderful to see so many of our students willing to share with one another so that everyone gets a turn.
Our younger classes have been practising playing board games during their Library visits over the last week so that they are able to play games independently during the breaks.

Have a great week!
