Writing Success at Dayboro State School
Writing is becoming fun again at Dayboro State School. There was great interest, and an avalanche of entries, in last term’s Writing competition on the theme ‘Treasure’. You may also have heard your children talking about ‘Sizzling Starts’ or ‘Ban the Boring’, two important skills of effective writers. These are part of a toolbox of strategies teachers have been embedding in Writing lessons as we seek to renew student enthusiasm, creativity and competency in the craft of writing. Teachers use Modelled, Shared, Guided and Independent Writing to structure their lessons and encourage students to set individual learning goals, and then reflect on their writing progress. Ask your child to tell you how ‘Dynamic Dialogue’ and ‘Show, Don’t Tell’ improves the quality of their writing. What are your child’s learning goals for Writing this term?
