Principal's News
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As this is the last newsletter for the term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our entire school community for your support and cooperation as we have adapted to a new way of working this term. Although there have been some casualties in terms of school events, we have still managed to maintain our unrelenting focus on learning and achievement and still provide activities which have been possible under the COVID restrictions. From all accounts, our way of operating will continue through to the end of the school year.
Could I take the opportunity below to provide some information about school events, so that planning can take place for families:
- Colour Fun Run – this is scheduled for next Friday 18 September from 1.15pm onwards on our school oval. Please note that due to COVID restrictions, parents are not able to attend this event. This is a free dress day and students are invited to wear their white t-shirt ( or other casual shirt) to school on the day in readiness for the activity. We encourage every student to also bring a change of clothes in their bag after the event, in case a change is necessary before travelling on buses. The colour run mixture is corn starch and colourings- please advise your child’s classroom teacher if there are any concerns about participation. Participation is not compulsory, but is designed to be a fun course of obstacles and challenges to celebrate the last day of term.
- School Photos – MSP photography will be here on Monday 19 October ( Week 3) for school photos. Please look out for photo envelopes which will be forwarded home as soon as they are available.
- Year 5 and Year 6 Camps – Both camps are going ahead as COVID-Safe plans are available. Invoices have been issued for both camps. Please contact the school office if any information about payments or payment plans is required.
- Book Week – We will be celebrating Book Week from 19-23 October – the theme is “Curious Creatures”. The Book Week parade will be held on Wednesday 21 October on the school oval. The Meerkats theatre team will be doing a presentation at our school on Thursday 22 October – look out for details early next term.
- Swimming Carnivals – The Senior Swimming Carnival has been booked for Tuesday 24 November and the Junior Swimming Carnival has been booked for Friday 27 November. More details will be provided at a later time with the event falling under the COVID-Safe plan of Belgravia Leisure who operate the local pool.
- Year 6 Graduation – We are planning a celebratory event for our graduating Year 6 cohort based upon COVID–safe principles. We will know in the first few weeks of Term 4 how this event will be conducted and information will be provided to families at this time.
I hope the above information is of assistance in planning for these activities and events. Details about parent involvement or attendance at these events will be provided closer to the date and will be in line with the latest advice by the Queensland Chief Medical officer. Please keep up to date via our school Facebook Page as updates become available.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to the high number of parents/caregivers who have attended the school or had a telephone interview about your child/ren’s progress in recent weeks. Our official interview period continues until the end of the term. If you haven’t made a booking for an interview and still wish to make contact with a teacher, please contact them as soon as possible.
To be COVID-Safe, please ensure that when visiting the school that all required protocols are carried out, as advised by the individual teachers.
Movie and TV Free Dress Day Success
This was perhaps one of the most successful free dress days we have had at Dayboro with so many children and teachers engaging with the theme. I am happy to report that around $350 was raised and has been sent to Anglicare to support youth homelessness in our community. Thank you to everyone for your support of this Student Council initiative.
School Holidays and Public Holiday
The spring school holidays commence next Friday 18 September and students return for Term 4 on Tuesday 6 October. Monday 5 October is a public holiday for the Queen’s Birthday.
Prep Enrolment Information and Interviews
Please ensure that enrolments packs for Prep for 2021 are received by our school office by Friday 18 September to assist with planning for the new school year.
Our Prep Interviews are being held between 19-23 October. Please organise a time with the school office if this has not already been done. An orientation day has been organised for Tuesday 10 November and will be followed up by morning visits on 16/23/30 November.
