Principal's News

Dear Parents and Caregivers

GDrum_1.jpg

On assembly last week, Sergeant Ken spoke about general road safety for our students when they are moving about within our community. The safety of our students when they are travelling to and from school is a high priority and I would ask that parents reinforce the clear messages which were discussed.

Firstly, students must use the school crossing in the mornings and afternoons when arriving and departing from school.  As parents, role modelling this practice with our children reinforces the need to be vigilant about our safety.

Secondly, if students are required to go down town in the afternoons, the safest method to do this is to cross at the school crossing and then use the crossing outside the butcher shop to cross again if necessary.  Some students are attempting to cross at the Dayboro Hotel near the three way intersection. This is a dangerous practice and is not encouraged.

It is always concerning when I hear from members of our community about unsafe behaviour and I would appreciate it if parents could reinforce the importance of road safety to our students.

Be COVID-SAFE

Thankyou to our school community for working with us to ensure that we are compliant with COVID-19 restrictions and Queensland Health requirements.  I would like to remind everyone of our protocols to ensure that we remain safe in our school.

Entry to our School :- Our school remains a controlled environment for Term 3. There is no general access to classrooms, Prep area or the school grounds. The office, however, is open via a side window for payments and other enquiries. Please do not enter our school if you have symptoms of cold and flu present.

Meetings and Interviews with TeachersOur first preference for communication with teachers is via email or telephone. Teachers can hold face-to-face interviews at their discretion and invitation.  Please note that anyone attending a classroom is required to attend the office in the first instance to complete the COVID-SAFE contact register.

Future School Events:- We are making plans for ensuring that planned events such as our Prep Information Session, Fathers’ Day Stall, and Year 6  Graduation can go ahead following the COVID-SAFE guidelines.  There will be changes to the way these will run this year, details of which will be communicated closer to the time.

Keeping students at home if not well :-   Our school community does this well.  With some current concerns around vomiting and diarrhoea this becomes so much more important.

Our focus is on keeping our school community safe and well.  Thank you to everyone for your cooperation.

Student Free Day

Our school will be closed on Friday 4 September for a Student Free Day. Our teachers will be engaged in a range of professional development and training activities throughout this day.  Please note there is no student free day in Term 4 this year.

Welcome to our new acting Business Manager

It is my pleasure to welcome our new acting Business Manager to our school today . Ms Kylie McIntosh has joined our team from Aspley State School and will be with us for the next 12 months. Our Business Manager, Ms Clare Gault is now on maternity leave awaiting the arrival of her new baby, on or about 4 September .  We warmly welcome Kylie to our school.

Victory in the Pacific Community Commemoration

It is with great pleasure that our School Captains have been invited to speak at the community commemoration of the Victory of the Pacific on Tuesday 18 August.  Our Captains will each present a narrative about the involvement of six of the Dayboro soldiers involved.   The event will occur at 11am in Roderick Cruice Park.

Prep Information Session –  Wednesday 19 August

GDrum_Ready_for_School.jpg

Our annual Prep Information Session will be held on Wednesday 19 August at 9.30am in our school hall.  If you have a child born between 1 July 2015- 30 June 2016, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2021. Dayboro State School operates within an Enrolment Management Plan and has a defined catchment area. Full details of this policy are located at the following link. Details of actions required for both in-catchment and out of catchment enrolments are available at this site.

For this event, COVID-SAFE practices will be in effect including the required completion of a contact register and seat allocation in order to satisfy social distancing regulations. Entry to the event will be via the registration table which will be located in the school bus shelter.
