Deputy Principal's News

Dear Families and Friends

Kryan_5_Bee_s.JPG

As we begin to edge towards the end of Semester One, our students have been very busy finishing  work and assessment tasks, albeit, modified to allow for adjustments because of the COVID situation. Teachers are also busily in the midst of marking students’ work and writing report cards.

Please remember the Report Cards will be heavily modified and will be emailed to parents in Week 2 of Term 3.

It is also at this time, as we return to normality, that I am reminded of our School Motto, “Cultivating Knowledge” as well as our School vision “To inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”

We strongly believe here at Dayboro school that our students should be engaged in the “richness” of learning and we strive to provide a diverse and challenging range of learning experiences that extend and encourage student creativity. We aim to provide a wide range of ways in which our students can present their knowledge and understandings and encourage all our students to have - a- go, take risks and do their best!

In my visits to classrooms this week, I have seen……  Yr. 1 stories created using Scratch on their IPADs, persuasive writing tasks encouraging our students to be mindful and active citizens, plays about our favourite fairy tales and Instrumental lessons and Choirs recommencing. Our new Chappy Andrew has also been helping out with Drama lessons for Prep and Year 1. Crochet Club and Footy Club have also started up again. The “richness” of learning thrives here at Dayboro and we celebrate our students and staff who support this ethos of a “safe, caring and educationally challenging environment.”

BEHAVIOUR - OUR RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN

Our school has a comprehensive School Code of Behaviour with a published Responsible Behaviour Plan that outlines expectations and processes followed to encourage positive relationships and ensure students perform to their potential. This document is distributed to all school families on enrolment. Dayboro State School’s Responsible Behaviour Plan can be found on the school website or accessed from the Office.

To keep things simple our code focuses on five values that encompass the behaviours that we want to see in our children.

Simply called the 5 B’s they are:

Be RESPECTFUL Of yourself, others and property

Be RESPONSIBLE    Be safe and aware

Be POSITIVE      Be kind, helpful and cheerful

Be PROUD      Take pride in yourself, your work and your school

Be TOLERANT    Be understanding of others’ ideas beliefs and feelings

We also have a Kindness Award and a weekly Principal’s Award. Once a term, there is also a Sheriff’s Award given to a student who demonstrates these values consistently. Only the Principal and Sheriff’s awards have been postponed for now.

A REMINDER ABOUT MOBILE PHONES

Mobile phones are considered a valuable item and are therefore not to be brought to school by students. The risk of damage, inappropriate use or loss is extremely high.

If, due to special circumstances, parents require a mobile phone to be carried by a child, the phone must be given to the child’s class teacher for the duration of the day.

Please remember that all children are expected to wait in the CSA before School between 8:15am until the bell goes at 8:40am. The children are supervised during this time. Prep and Yr 1 children will start classes at 8:40am. They will leave the CSA first at 8:35am. They will be collected by their teachers and taken to their classrooms. All other students in Yrs 2-6 will be let go from the CSA as per usual and walk straight to classrooms.

In the afternoons, Preps and Year 1’s will be released at 2:50pm and collected by parents in the garden area outside of the Prep rooms.(if needed)  All other children will line up for buses, childcare and OSHC as per usual. The rest of the school will be released at 3pm and go home as they usually would.

Also, please remember that you need to ring our absence line or leave a message on Q Parents informing us of your child’s absence and reason for absence.

100 YEARS CELEBRATION AT DAYBORO SCHOOL!

Thursday 25th June is a very special day for our school. It was on this date 100 years ago that the first building was erected on the school’s current site, now known as Dayboro State School. To celebrate we have some special events planned. Unfortunately, due to the COVID situation we have had to scale back our plans for greater community and parent involvement. The day will still be memorable for our students, however, with a celebratory cake, special tree planting and some olden day activities planned in classrooms. We have also commissioned a brass plaque to be installed on the original building to mark the occasion.

Look out for photos of the day on our new School Facebook site.
