Principal's News
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome to Week 2 of the new 'normal' for our school.
Our students have all settled in much better than anticipated and are now engaging well with their curriculum work and projects. Once again, thank you to everyone for your continued support with the social distancing requirements and the staggered school finishing times.
One of the most frequent questions being asked is about school events and what the rest of the school year may look like. In short, the answer is wait and see as to what the Chief Medical Officer and the Director-General of Education will do in term of relaxing restrictions.
However, within the scope of what we are able to do we are re-introducing some of our 'normal' activities. Band lessons and choir practices have resumed and Dance Fever have been booked for next term. A “Rock your Socks” day has been planned for June 19 with a gold coin donation to a charity which will be selected by our Student Council.
Many of our school events such as sports days, camps, excursions, concerts have not been scheduled as we await the decisions about school activities. At present assemblies, sports days and school gatherings are not permitted. Depending on when, and to what level restrictions are relaxed will determine which of these events can be rescheduled this year. Unfortunately, non-essential visitors and volunteers remain restricted at this stage.
Another significant change will be to our report cards for this semester. Please take the opportunity to read through the Head of Department’s (Curriculum) section of this newsletter as it outlines what and how reporting will occur for this semester. Reports will be issued in Week 2 of Term 3 on Wednesday 22 July.
Once again, on behalf of our teaching team, thank you for your ongoing support during these unprecedented times for our school.
Prep Enrolments -2021
We are already receiving enquiries about our Prep program for 2021. We are pleased to provide information and enrolment information anytime at our school office. However, I am able to advise that our Prep Information and Enrolment Morning will be held on Wednesday 19 August at 9.30am in our School Hall. This will be followed up with Prep interviews for all newly enrolled students from 19-23 October and a Prep Orientation Day on Tuesday 10 November.
If you have a child born between 1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016, he/she is eligible for Prep enrolment at Dayboro State School in 2021. Please note that Dayboro State School has an Enrolment Management Plan in place – please check at http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/catchment/ for further information.
We have had several enquiries regarding enrolling at Dayboro Prep from outside the catchment area. Families who view Dayboro as their school of choice are very welcome to submit an enrolment application, however the outcome of the application will not be advised until late October when available places are allocated in the order of receipt.
I would be pleased if this information could be circulated to people who are known to you and are wishing to enrol in our Prep program in 2021.
