Pine Rivers District Trials

Each year the Pine Rivers District run sporting trials to select students for a District Team. The trials are often for 10-12 year olds but some will only be for 11-12 year olds. Competition levels are high, so we recommend that only students who participate in a club at a high level nominate. A maximum of 3 students per school are able to attend. Most of these trials are held in term 1 with a few more in term 2. The information for each trial only comes out a week or so in advance and with me only working 2 days a week, it’s important that you and your child are paying attention to when these trials are on. I have included current district sporting trials and the dates below.  I suggest you take note of the trails relevant to your child/ren. This information will be displayed on the whiteboard/corkboard in the CSA and in the newsletter during the fortnight prior to the trial. Occasionally the dates for the trials will change. We will inform you through the newsletter.

Rugby League Trials

Students aged 10-12 years old, who are interested in being selected for the District Rugby League trials this year, will have a school trials this Thursday 7th March at 1st break up on the oval. Students are to meet Mr Horne on the oval once dismissed from their eating area and with a hat, drink bottle and suitable running shoes. Only students with Rugby League experience and who have played for a club outside of school should attend. A modified game of rugby League, with no tackling involved, will be played at school to determine which students are suitable for district trials. Students that are selected for the district trials will then be given forms to be completed by their parents/carer and need to be taken to the trials with them. Good luck!

Cross Country Training: Time Trials

Students who have been coming along are now into their fifth week of training and it has been wonderful to see many students returning, more keen and enthusiastic for some running and fitness. It is still not too late to join in, for any students in grade 3-6 wanting to just improve their running before the School Fun Run which is happening next term on Tuesday 18th June. For those students who are coming to be selected for the Cross Country team, the sessions are starting to get much harder and challenging as the District Cross Country trials gets closer (Friday 5th April). In just 2 weeks, on Monday 18th March during their normal training session time, students will be timed, running their age group course. This is to determine their suitability for district trials and select a Cross Country team. Any students that are absent or cannot come to this timed training session, will have the opportunity to still be timed during one of the other training sessions with Mrs Summers on Wednesday or Mr Horne on Friday. If there are any questions regarding these timed trials, please see Mrs Braun.

High Jump Trials

A reminder to mark down in your calendars, that the Senior Athletics Carnival (for grades 3-6) will be held on Tuesday 26th March, which is only three weeks away. As always, families are welcome to come along and show their support to their child/ren. On the day, students will need to wear their sports uniform, including their house shirt, and bring their school hat, sunscreen, suitable running shows, a nutritious lunch and plenty of water.

To ensure the carnival runs smoothly on the day, and every event finishes on time, High Jump will be done before to the carnival, at a break time. Students wanting to have a go at High Jump for house points or to make it to districts (10-12 year olds only), High Jump will be starting next week. For students in grades 5 and 6 this will be on Tuesday 12th March at 1st break up on the oval and for those in grades 3 and 4, will be the following week on Tuesday 19th March also at first break on the oval. As soon as students are dismissed by their teacher for morning tea, they are to meet Mrs Braun and Chappy Cam up on the oval with their hat, drink bottle and food. If for some reason your child/ren cannot attend these trials but still wishes to do High Jump, please contact Mrs Braun to arrange an alternative day.

1500m and 800m Trials

Due to time and limited space on the oval, both the 1500m and 800m for this year’s Senior Athletics Carnival will take place prior to the day of the Senior Athletics Carnival.

Students aged 10-12 years old this year, who are wishing to go to districts for 1500m are invited to come to Mrs Braun’s weekly Cross Country training session next week, Monday 11th March at first break, to be timed running a 1500m course. Although it is encouraged, students do not need to be attending every Cross Country training session to be nominated for the 1500m event. If selected, students will then compete at the District Athletics Carnival on the 7th and/or 8th May next term.

In week 8, on Wednesday 20th March students in grades 3-6 will be running their 800m event for their School Athletics Carnival. Between 9am and 11am students will be up on the oval with their classroom teacher, completing their 800m run. All students in these grades are encouraged to participate and have a go. Families are also welcome to this short pre-carnival event and cheer on their child/ren.

PE Class of the Week

This week the PE trophy and award goes to 3OH for being enthusiastic and safe in PE. This is very important this term, as we are learning how to correctly through a discus and shot put. Keep up the good work and you might be rewarded the trophy again. Congratulations 3OH!
