2020 Pine Rivers District Trials
Below is the Pine Rivers District School Sport Calendar for 2020. The dates provided below, are for students aged 10-12 years old this year and who are wishing to trial for the district team. If your child/children are interested in attending any of the below trials, they MUST know the rules and have exceptional experience in the sport, for instance, have played at club level or somewhere other than just at school. Results from our big three school carnivals (Cross Country, Athletics & Swimming), will be used to determine who represents our school in these three sports. If you have any further questions about the selection process or below trials, please contact me via the school office or at jbrau28@eq.edu.au. Cross Country Carnival
Already it is that time of year again, to start getting ready for our annual School Cross Country Carnival, which is happening in two weeks on Tuesday 24th March from 9:00am – 11:30am approximately. This year there are a couple of changes to the carnival. Firstly, the carnival will be used to determine who qualifies for our 10-12 years old Cross Country team, and compete at the District trials next term, on Friday 1st May. This will replace our usual lunch time trial that would normally take place at the end of our training program. The second change for this years’ Cross Country Carnival are the distances ran by our older students. Because the carnival is being used to select a Cross Country team, the distances need to be the same as what is ran at Districts, however, students can choose to run this distance which will be known as an Age Group race OR participate in a much shorter run called a ‘Fun Run’. The Fun Run is simply for students who are NOT interested in racing, trialling for districts, having their run timed or wanting to finish in a position. It is just to get involved, help their house (Rush, Armstrong & Terrors) gain extra participant points and for the self-fulfilment. A list of distances for each Age Group race and the Fun Run are listed below, to help students decide on what they would like to do. This week students aged 9 years and older will be asked by their classroom teacher to nominate themselves for either their Age Group race OR the Fun Run. If you have any queries about this, or would like to change your child’s nomination please contact me via the school office or at jbrau28@eq.edu.au.
On the day of the carnival students will need to bring their hat, sunscreen, water bottle, closed in running shoes and school sports t-shirt (for house spirit). As always, families are welcome and encouraged to attend the carnival, to help cheer on their child/children. A draft copy of the order of events is provided below should you plan to come watch and offer your support. We look forward to seeing the school oval covered in red, green and blue sport shirts for a fun morning of running and plenty of cheering.

Cross Country Training
With our School Cross Country Carnival not far away students are almost at the peak of their training and sessions are becoming harder and harder. It has been wonderful to see so many students continue to take advantage of these FREE weekly training sessions and show so much enthusiasm for running. A very special thank you to Mr Horne and Mr Reis for volunteering their time, planning sessions, organising students and offering encouragement. Without the support from these two teachers, students wouldn’t have as much opportunity to train and be ready for their cross country carnival. Thank you!
Another opportunity for some training, is Parkrun. Although it is NOT school organised or associated, it is a great way to keep up their fitness and run somewhere new. Parkrun happens every Saturday morning from 7am and is held at numerous locations around Brisbane. The closest places, to Dayboro that have Parkrun include, Petrie, Ocean View and Warner Lakes. This is a FREE weekly event, organised by volunteers in the community, where you are timed running a 5km course. Some locations also offer pacer weeks, where people will help you pace yourself to finish within a set time. I am a regular participant of Parkrun and highly recommend getting involved if you can. Please come say hi if you happen to see me at one of the above Parkrun’s…. I am happy to help with pacing and encouragement.
Finally, there is the Queensland Running series. Details for this series is in the flyer below.
District Success for Lachlan
A big congratulations to Lachlan M., for being selected into the Pine Rivers District 10-12 Years old Boys AFL Team, last week. This is a huge achievement for Lachlan and our small school, given Lachlan was chosen from over fifty students to represent the Pine Rivers District at the upcoming Met North Regional Trials. We wish Lachlan all the very best as he trains and prepares for regionals and we know that he will do us all very proud. Well done Lachlan!
Sporting Schools
Last week we saw 10 students participate in Flippa Ball (modified Water Polo), on the Monday afternoon, and the same amount have a go at Basketball the following afternoon. Already this week we are seeing a growing number of students join in and realise what a great opportunity Sporting Schools is providing our students at Dayboro. This term we have organised for students in Years 5-6 to participate in a FREE after school sports program called, Sporting Schools. Each term we hope to keep the program going, and offer different sports for students from different year levels. Students do not need any prior experience or knowledge of the sport, just a completed permission form and a smile. The program is all about having a go, trying new sports and seeing if they like it. If you would like more information about the program please don’t hesitate to ask or if you would like to see a particular sport made available through our Sporting Schools program, please contact me at jbrau28@eq.edu.au.
