In my report to the P&C last night, I acknowledged the previous executive and offered my thanks for the wonderful contributions made to our school. I would also like to extend my thanks to the new members who have joined the P&C this year and to the parents who have elected to take leadership roles in the P&C sub-committees. I look forward to continuing the great work of our P&C with the new team throughout 2019.

All parents are invited to P&C Meetings which are generally held on the second Monday of each month.

Parent Teacher Interviews – New Online Process

GDrum_Parent_Interviews.jpg

Parent Teacher interviews have been scheduled by teachers for the last two weeks of this term. Please note that the school has now moved to an online booking system for interviews. Details about the new SOBS ( School Online Booking System) have been forwarded home with students. Enquiries about SOBS should be directed to the school office. Please take the opportunity to make a booking and attend the school and review student progress at this time.

COVID-19 – Coronavirus

As would be expected, I am monitoring this situation very closely to ensure the ongoing health and safety of our school community.  Could I please request that all members of the school community  assist by following the advice and information below and take the opportunity to discuss these points with our children:-

To help stop the spread of germs, wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially before and after eating, and after going to the toilet:

  • use alcohol-based hand sanitiser if soap is unavailable;
  • cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow;
  • dispose of tissues in the bin immediately;
  • if you’re unwell, stay at home and avoid contact with others through touching, kissing or hugging.

The poster displayed at 6 steps to successful handwashing is the one being used at our assemblies and in classrooms to discuss the importance of washing hands thoroughly.

Effective hand hygiene is vital

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, it is important to remember that effective hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against viruses and can help prevent the spread of illness.

Lead by example and encourage your children to:

  • wash their hands regularly with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • use alcohol-based hand sanitiser if soap is not available
  • cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow
  • dispose of tissues in the bin immediately
  • if they’re unwell, stay at home and avoid contact with others such as touching, kissing or hugging.

Check out the 20 second routine video for effective handwashing.

Further information about   COVID-19 is available on the Queensland Health website or Australian Government website.

ANZAC Day – School Assembly Details

Our first assembly in Term 2 on Tuesday 21 April is our ANZAC Day ceremony. Parents and community members are most welcome to join us for this service. The choir and school band will perform at this ceremony. Please note there will be no Monday assembly.

Our School Captains, the School Band and School Choir will also participate in the community ANZAC Day service on Saturday 25 April at the Dayboro Showgrounds. More details about our ANZAC Day commemorations will be provided in the coming weeks.

School Attendance

An attendance target of 96% has been set by our school. How is our attendance for the first six weeks of the school year?  At Dayboro, ‘every day counts’ and regular, on time attendance is strongly encouraged.

After the first 6 weeks in 2019, our attendance was 95.2% across the school. Our attendance for the same period This year is 94.7% - lower.

To report an absence from school call the absence line on 34256160 and leave a detailed message, including the reason for the absence. Absence notifications can also be forwarded to the school via Q Parents. Unexplained absences from school will result in an SMS being forwarded to advise of the absence and to request a reason for the absence. Cooperation in keeping our students safe by following this process would be very much appreciated.

Our school says 'Bullying. No Way!' on the National Day of Action

GDrum_National_Day_of_Action.png

On Friday 27 March, our school will be taking a stand together on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

The National Day is an annual event for Australian schools where school communities across the nation stand as one against bullying and violence.
Dayboro State School is dedicated to creating safe and supportive school environments, free from bullying, harassment and violence.

Together, we can send clear messages to young people that bullying and violence, in or outside the classroom, are not okay at any time.

Our School is planning an “Orange Day” on Friday 27 March. We are inviting all our students and school community to wear something Orange to signify the importance of this day.

We will keep you informed about our plans and activities to celebrate the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on Friday 27 March. Please note the date in your diaries.
