PE News
Welcome (back)!
Hello and welcome (back) to all our families, especially those new to the school. A quick introduction for those that are new or have not met me yet, I am the Physical Education (PE) Teacher at our wonderful, yet hilly school, and can be found walking around the school grounds wearing the typical PE outfit, on a Monday and Tuesday. Because I am only at Dayboro for two days a week, I am very lucky to have a sports committee who helps me to organise carnivals, trials, training sessions and gala days. This term is our busiest with lots of district trials happening (see calendar below), before school training for our school cross country carnival, which will be held on Tuesday 24th March and our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in their first Gala Day for the year. For those that have not had their child/ren do Gala Days before, it is one day a term where our Year 5 and 6 students get to go play a sport for a day, with other primary schools in the district. It’s a great day, out of the classroom, where students get to play a team sport in a fun and friendly round robin. If you have any questions regarding Sport or PE throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to ask.
2020 Pine Rivers District Trials
Please find below the 2020 Pine Rivers District School Sport Calendar. The dates provided below, are for students aged 10-12 years old this year and who are wishing to trial for the district team. If your child/children are interested in attending any of the below trials, they MUST know the rules and have exceptional experience in the sport, for instance, have played at club level or somewhere other than just at school. Exemplary behaviour at school is also a prerequisite. Most sports do limit the number of students that each school can send to each trials (normally only 4 students), so if there is a large number of students interested in a sport, such as Soccer, Netball and Rugby League, a lunch time trial will occur at school. Results from our big three school carnivals (Cross Country, Athletics & Swimming), will be used to determine who represents our school in these three sports. If you have any further questions about the selection process or below trials, please contact me via the school office. A copy of the sports and dates below, can also be found on the Student Notices board, just outside the admin block.

If your child competes in a sport, outside of school, that isn’t listed above please come and see me because there may be regional trials for the sport, but no district trials. The reason why a district trials is skipped is because there may not be enough students in the district for a trial, however, there could be enough within the region. Some sports that do this include Aquathlon, Golf, Squash, Softball and girls Cricket.
Netball Trials for District Trials
I have received an overwhelming number of girls interested in going to districts for Netball, however I can only choose four students, and therefore I will need to run a game of Netball during lunch time at school. This will happen next Monday at 1st break on the multi-purpose court, and a reminder will be given at parade.
District Basketball Success for Zach
A big congratulations to Zach S. for being selected into the Pine Rivers District U12 Years Boys Basketball team. This was Zach’s first time trialling for Basketball and was chosen from a field of more than 20 students in the district. This is a huge achievement for Zach and our school. We wish him all the very best with his training and when he competes at the Met North Regional Trials later this term. Well Done Zach!
Cross Country Training
Permission forms has been sent home with those students who showed interest in participating in this year’s Cross Country training program. Starting yesterday, students in years 3-6 are invited to come train for our school Cross Country Carnival (Tuesday 24th March), and District Cross Country Trials (Friday 1st may). Students are to meet the allocated teacher on the handball courts, under the blue shade sails, for an 8:00am start. Training sessions will go for about 30-40 minutes and then students are to go get changed into their school uniform before school starts. If your child/children did not receive a permission form and would like to partake in the program, they can ask for one from their classroom teacher or myself. Students are welcome to join at any time, however the sooner they join, the more prepared they will be for our Cross Country Carnival.
PE Class of the Week
Congratulations to all the students in 4B for receiving the PE trophy and award for week 2. This class are currently learning how to perform long rope skipping in groups and they did a wonderful job cooperating with each other and using the skipping ropes safely. Well done and keep up the great work!
