Deputy's News

Dear Families and Friends

YR 1 FIRE EDUCATION VISIT

We were very fortunate to have our local Fire Services team and Rural Fire Volunteers come and visit our school last Thursday and talk to our Year 1’s about Fire Safety. The Year 1’s listened excitedly and intently as they learnt about how to “Stop, Drop and Roll” and how to call for Emergency Services. The team also asked the children to go home and ask their parents to check their smoke alarms and also to discuss where the fire exit locations in their house are. A very important conversation to have with all children, particularly at this time of year. The children also had many questions to ask our Fire Services team. The presentation concluded with a guided explanation of all the parts of the fire truck, the tools they use and all the different types of hoses they use. We would like to sincerely thank Scott Dun, Jason Andrews, Wayne Taylor and Dan Futcher for their time and enthusiasm. The children not only learnt a lot from the talk but they had lots of fun too.

EXCITING WRITING

At Dayboro one of our curriculum priorities has been to help all students improve in the area of writing. Teacher and students have been focussed on improving engagement and creativity in our students as writers. We have nurtured and celebrated every student as an author this year and all students have writing goals to work towards. In 2020 our main priority area will also be writing. We will be celebrating writing in all its’ different forms and aim to identify and extend talented authors that exist in every classroom.

To celebrate writing in all its’ forms, I would like to share with you a piece of Narrative/ Retell  writing, this time from a student in Yr. 2.

In 1988 a young boy named Tom lived in a house by himself because his parents had died in a car crash. So when Tom was twenty, he started studying dinosaurs. One day Tom was on a jet with heaps of dinosaurs and a new type of combined dinosaur. It was supposed to be a surprise for people in the city. Suddenly a lightning storm came and some lightning zapped the jet. It was coming down. Tom grabbed a parachute and jumped off the jet. Tom reached the ground just as the jet crashed beside him. He realised he was in the jungle. Tom ran over to the jet he realised that the new  dinosaur wasn’t there. Tom grabbed his walkie talkie and called for a chopper. The chopper came and got Tom. Tom told about how the new dinosaur had escaped. So they called the army but the army was no match against the dinosaur. Tom had an idea and called for back up to help move everyone to a different place. They called in the special army who had to drop a warhead bomb onto the dangerous dinosaur. The army officer did a call out on the walkie talkie,” Mission successful….”

Yr 5 Parents Needed!

KRyan_Parent_helpers.jpg

Year 5 Parents- Thank you to Kylie Juleff and her growing team of helpers who are organising and serving food on Graduation night next Wednesday. I am sure they would be happy to have more helpers though. Many hands!!!

Date: Wednesday 11th December - 7-10pm. You would be required for a couple of hours on the night to serve food and drinks to the Yr.6 students and their parents. We also need a small group of Yr.5 parents to help prepare the food for the night. The food will be paid for by P and C but they would like volunteers to assist in organising. Please see Karen Ryan DP or Mia Gillies,  Secretary of P and C,  if interested.  You can contact us via the office. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you to those parents that have already offered to help.
