Principal's News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As another busy school year draws to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your cooperation and support this year. As educators, we rely on parent support in all that we do to help students be the very best they can be and we value the partnerships we build together as we watch children grow and develop during their primary school years.
For those leaving the Dayboro family, we wish you well , particularly our Year 6 students as they head off to Junior Secondary, and those families finishing up with us, with their youngest children graduating this year.
On behalf of the school staff, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season and a happy new year. School recommences on Tuesday 28 January 2020 for students.
Major School Works over the Holiday Period
While we enjoy the holiday break, there will be a hive of activity at Dayboro State School while some major work is undertaken. This includes:-
- A major upgrade to the drainage and sewage systems across the entire school
- Asbestos Removal in the Uniform Shop (Please note the entire school, including the Outside Hours School Care is completely off limits from 21 December 2019 through to the 5 January 2020 to enable the safe removal of asbestos)
- Air conditioning will be installed in the two classrooms in “B” Block.
- Block “C” will be converted to a Prep Classroom with the installation of cupboards, sinks and new furniture
- Our two existing Prep classrooms will be fitted with new student and classroom furniture.
We look forward to these improvements to our school in readiness for the 2020 school year.
Final School Assembly and Year 6 Graduation
Our Year 6 students will be farewelled at a Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday evening commencing at 7pm. Our final school assembly for 2019 will be held at 12 noon on Thursday 12 December. At this time, the school leaders for 2020 will be announced.
Please note that students will be returning to class after the assembly. If any parents would like to pick up students earlier than 3pm, this can be done from the student’s classroom.
Classes for Next Year
Classes for next year are being developed and will be available on Thursday 23 January from 8.30am outside the School Administration. All classes are DRAFT until the Day 8 School Staffing Census and are subject to change.
On the same morning between 9:00-10:00am, teachers will be in their classrooms and the opportunity is available for parents and students to meet teachers and drop off book packs. This will be the only time available as teachers will be involved in a Student Free Day program at all other times.
Class Break-up Day Parties and Uniforms
Teachers have made individual arrangements for class parties, which will be held this Thursday 12 December. Please contact your child’s teacher if any further information is needed.
Students are invited to be in free dress for both Thursday and Friday. Although Friday is a normal school day, part of the time will be allocated towards preparing classrooms for the following year and may include some cleaning activities.
Reporting to Parents
Report Cards for Semester 2 will be emailed to parents tomorrow, Wednesday 11 December after 2pm. Parents with the QParents app are also able to access the report cards at this time. If anyone requires a ‘hard copy’ of the report card, please contact the school office.
Please be aware that the way that schools report is mandated, meaning we follow particular rules regarding structure and reporting elements. I want to ensure that you are clear about the standards we, as an Education QLD school use, particularly in relation to your child’s performance as indicated by the “achievement” column:
A or VHA Standard – The student has performed EXCEPTIONALLY well and has produced a very high standard of work.
B or HA Standard – The student has achieved an EXCELLENT result and has produced a high standard of work.
C or S Standard – The student is performing at the age appropriate standard and is performing at the EXPECTED level. The term “satisfactory” or “sound” is used.
D Standard - Student is DEVELOPING skills and knowledge required to reach age appropriate level. Students receiving this result may require some additional assistance and support during class.
E or Support required – Student requires significant additional staff/parental support in the future to be able to reach age appropriate levels at this stage.
When viewing your child’s report cards, it is important to take note of the effort grades. The “Effort” grades are a significant indicator of whether the student is consistently achieving to their potential. For example, an “A” for effort and a “C” for achievement indicates that your child is “on target” for their age and “applying their best effort”. This grade should be celebrated with students because they have worked hard to achieve year level expectations.
School Watch
With the school holidays approaching, please keep an eye on our school. Sergeant Ken has once again enlisted the support of volunteers to keep watch over our school during this holiday period.
If anyone sees anything suspicious, this can be reported to School Watch on 131788.
