Each year the Pine Rivers District run sporting trials to select students for a District Team. The trials are often for 10-12 year olds but some will only be for 11-12 year olds. Competition levels are high, so we recommend that only students who participate in a club at a high level nominate. A maximum of 3 students per school are able to attend. Most of these trials are held in term 1 with a few more in term 2. The information for each trial only comes out a week or so in advance and with me only working 2 days a week, it’s important that you and your child are paying attention to when these trials are on. I have included current district sporting trials and the dates below. I suggest you take note of the trials relevant to your child/ren. This information will be displayed on the whiteboard/corkboard in the CSA and in the newsletter during the fortnight prior to the trial. Occasionally the dates for the trials will change. We will inform you through the newsletter.
Sport Carnivals
Cross Country
This year our School Fun Run will be held on Tuesday 18th June, which is in week 9 of term 2. This is a whole school event with students from Prep to Grade 6 participating and supporting one another. Students aged 10-12 years old this year (born 2007-2009) who are wishing to be selected for the School Cross Country team MUST attend the weekly Cross Country training sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at first break. Because the District Cross Country Trials are before our school carnival, these training sessions will be used to not only prepare them for running long distances, but also to determine who is suitable to compete at the district trials. Other students in Grades 3-6 who do not want to go to districts but are looking for some fun and fitness are also welcome to join us. Permission slips for these training sessions can be collected from either a classroom teacher or Mrs Braun. In the event of wet weather, training will be cancelled and students notified on the day. Any students that do choir on a Monday but would still like to be selected for the School Cross Country team, are encouraged to come to training, but on Wednesday and Friday when choir isn’t on.
Athletics
Our Senior Athletics Carnival which is for all students in Grades 3-6 will be held on Tuesday 26th March, in week 9 this term. Normally the senior carnival is held in term two, however, it has been moved forward this year given the district trials for Athletics will be in week 3 of term 2. By moving the Senior Carnival forward it will allow time for a school Athletics team to be selected, using results from the carnival and paperwork sent home with those students who qualify. In preparation for this carnival, students in Grades 3-6 are doing an Athletics unit for PE this term. Already they have learnt and/or revised how to do a standing start and Shot Put. Over the coming weeks, students will also do Discus, High Jump, Long jump and a crouch start.
PE Class of the Week
This week the PE trophy and award goes to 3M for taking on board feedback and improving their effort and behaviour, greatly. This was wonderful to see and a great way to start the day, being the first to do PE. Keep up the good work and you might be rewarded the trophy again. Congratulations 3M!
