Waste Warriors Team Update

Recycling at Dayboro State School

Recycling.png

During 2019 Dayboro State School, with the help of our ’Waste Warriors’ student team, has been revamping our school Recycling Program, with the aim of reducing the amount of material that goes to landfill (dumps) each year.

Every room in the school, including classrooms, the tuckshop, the office, the school hall and OSHC, now has paired ‘Waste’ and ‘Recycling’ bins. Our ‘Waste Warriors’ Team is educating all students from Prep to Year 6 to be careful to put their rubbish in the correct bins.

How can you recycle at home?

The easiest place to start good recycling habits is at home by using separate bins for your recyclables and general waste.

Using your recycle wheelie bin is a great way to recycle household waste products.

Items usually allowed in them include:

  • most paper and cardboards
  • some plastic items—not plastic bags, see if your local supermarket has a collection point for plastic bags
  • most metal items (e.g. food tins and aluminium cans)
  • glass bottles and jars.

Recycling tips

  • Take lids off plastic bottles and glass items.
  • Place items loose in the bin, not in plastic bags.
  • Rinse containers.
  • Make sure aerosol cans are empty.
  • Check the recycling symbols on items to ensure they are recyclable.
  • Include only household items (e.g. from the kitchen, bathroom and laundry).

Working together we can all take responsibility towards reducing our carbon footprint and more sustainable living.
