What can parents do at home to help your children develop a Growth Mindset?
At Dayboro State School every classroom focusses on developing a growth mindset in all learners. In a growth mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence. Research shows that teachers (and parents) can have a powerful impact on their children’s mindsets. The language you use and the actions you take show your children what you expect. Giving process praise, talking about the brain, accepting mistakes as learning opportunities, and understanding the role of emotions in learning are all practices you can begin today.
Do you hear your child saying ‘I don’t know how to do that yet, but I’m going to keep trying’? This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.
More information on how you can assist your child to develop a growth mindset can be found below.
