PE News
Thank you so much for welcoming me back to Dayboro State School. It is so nice to be teaching PE here again, on a Monday and Tuesday, and seeing so many familiar faces are still at Dayboro. I am slowly remembering everyone’s names and learning those that were not here in 2017, before I went on maternity leave.
Term 1 is already turning out to be very busy with lots of School Sport events happening and students practising for their School Athletics Carnival in PE. Please help by ensuring that you send your child to school with their school hat and a drink bottle, not just for break times but also for PE lessons that may take place up on the oval. Further details, including dates, for district trials are below, and if you think your child will qualify at our school carnivals for district Athletics and/or Cross Country this year, please read carefully about the changes.
Pine Rivers District Trial Dates:
Week 4
Wednesday 20th February 2019 – 10-12 YRS Swimming Carnival
Week 6
Monday 4th March 2019 – 10-12 YRS Boys & Girls Hockey
Week 7
Monday 11th March 2019 – 12 YRS Girls Netball
Tuesday 12th March 2019 – 10-12 YRS Rugby League
Wednesday 13th March 2019- 10-12 YRS Girls Soccer
Thursday 14th March 2019 – 10-12 YRS Boys & Girls Touch Football
Week 10
Friday 5th April 2019 – 10-12 YRS Cross Country Carnival
For those that are new to the school or district sport, these trials are for students aged 10 – 12 years old (born 2007-2009). Only students who have played at club level and outstanding in their nominated sport, should be nominated for these trials. Students can only be nominated through the school. For students suitable and interested in trialling, they can express their interest by either writing their name down on the Sport Notices board (located in the CSA) or speaking to Mrs Braun directly. Please note that by adding your name to the list doesn’t automatically qualify you for the trials, it is simply informing Mrs Braun who is interested. When more information and paperwork for each sport becomes available throughout the year, students will then be approached by Mrs Braun to determine if they are suitable for nomination and to represent our school in their nominated sport.
Cross Country and Athletics
This year the dates for two of the big three major sport carnivals (Cross Country & Athletics) has changed because the National competition in these sports is being held in the Northern Territory. Rather than make the top sporting students in the country compete in extremely hot weather, the National events will be held much earlier in the year. This has a flow on effect because all the State events need to be held earlier to determine who gets to Nationals and so on. Therefore District Cross Country is being held in week 10 this term, instead of term 2. Our school Fun Run will still occur in term 2, however, for those wanting to trial for the district carnival MUST attend the training sessions being held this term on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at first break. Students in grades 3-6 who are wanting to join just for some fun and fitness, are also welcome. If you still require a permission form for these training sessions, please see Mrs Braun or ask a grade 3-6 classroom teacher. Mrs Braun is the coach for Monday sessions, Mrs Summers is coaching the Wednesday sessions and Mr Horne on Fridays. These sessions involve lots of running and some drills to build their fitness and prepare them for district and school Cross Country.
The grade 3-6 Athletics Carnival has also been affected this year and will be held this term, instead of term 2. This is for the same reason above, and is in the school calendar for Tuesday 26th March which is week 9. District Athletics will be in week 3 next term and does not affect those students in Prep – grade 2, so the Junior Athletics Carnival will remain in term 3.
I hope this helps and clarifies any confusion regarding dates and the district calendar for the year. If you still have any questions or concerns about these changes, please see Mrs Braun on a Monday or Tuesday.
PE Class of the Week
Congratulations to Prep J for remaining focused and trying your hardest in PE last week. This is a great start to your first year of school, and setting the standard high. I hope this continues and perhaps some older students can learn from you. Keep up the good work and you might be rewarded the trophy again. Well done Prep J!
